  • @arnoldasgrigutis His dog ate the meat, not the guy xD Jack mostly ate fruits, vegetables, low-fat healthy dairy like yogurt and cottage cheese, and a little fish.

  • does anyone know how long his dog lived on that raw diet?

  • well your both wrong because it is a poodle

  • @100percentgradeA xDDDDD

  • Now I know why gangsta call one another dogg.

  • Comment removed

  • I person is a dog hater.

  • Jack, dr bernard Jensen, harvey and marilyn Diamond and the best dr Norman Walker...were my favorites.. jack kicked sand in my face... and i woke up

  • LOL! This was awesome.

  • the title is misleading

  • I wish I had Jack Lalanne on TV now in 2011 and even before that because my health is really not that good and this man would have helped a lot instead of fucking Shaq or my gym teacher.

  • Jack sure was ahead of his time. How did he know in today's America some of us address each other as Dog. "What's up dog" lol :D

  • Mr. LaLanne sure loved Happy. When the dog came over, he always lost his attention and had fun with the dog. Always liked all of them, sure going to miss Mr.LaLanne.

  • LOL @ 1:21

  • God Bless Him!! such a beautiful man. So sad we are without him now:(

  • Aww, now Jack is with Happy again! He was such an inspirational person. He really knew how to live a happy life. No wonder he named his dog Happy. Just read this article about how amazing of a man he was. Thought other fans might want to read. nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/01/jack_lalanne_will_shame_you_wi.html

  • We miss you Jack... I still get inspired by you. RIP.

  • You are an inspiration

  • I'll miss you, Jack. God's blessings to Elaine and your family. A truly sad time...

  • Jack and Happy are running in Heaven now. We'll never forget you, Jack, your philosophy and common sense about health and good eating will always be appreciated. When I was a kid in the 60s, my Mom always watched Jack in the morning and we loved it when Happy showed up. Rest in Peace, Jack :-(

  • Sweet. RIP

  • May the gods speed Jack <3 ~ September 26, 1914 - January 23, 2011

  • raw diet for dogs...the best. this guy is the best!

  • I much fear poor Happy's been gone since the mid '70s. But then, he's JACK LA LANNE'S dog, so who can say?

  • you dawgz....^^

  • i hope the dog is still alive.

  • This man is the physical embodiment of legend.

  • wat breed is that dog

  • @lokallize think it's some kind of a mix german shepherd

  • @fIRsTRATmAN actually, its a pure bred german shepherd. its a white german shepherd.

  • @dehbee No its not. I suggest you study abit about German Shepherd's before commenting. Ive bred and owned champion German Shepherds so i know what im talking about.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN wow arent you hostile. i dont think youre a back yard breeder. any legit gsd breeder would know gsds come in recessive white gene. the white coat is a fault according to most breed standards. white gsds are formally known as, "berger blanc swiss". even one of stephanitz's, original gsds was a white gsd. his name was "greif von sparwasser". you obviously dont know much about german shepherds....this is just a puppy white german shepherd. google it.

  • @dehbee I know there are white gsd's where have i denied that. All I'm saying is this is not a pure breed.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN never said you didnt know there were white gsds. i decided to educate you about white gsds because you assumed i dont know anything about gsds. and yes this is a pb gsd. if you cant see that then you really dont know anything about them. Happy is just a puppy in this video...you can google more images of "happy" as a stunning adult. while your at it, why dont you google, "what breed is Jack Lalanne's dog?"

  • @dehbee By looking at a puppy i know exactly what he will look like fully grown. I dont intend to talk about this anymore, im here to listen to Jack Lalanne. I suggest you look at some champion gsd's on the internet to get an idea of what the general breed standard and look of a gsd is. This dog is not a pure gsd. Take care

  • @fIRsTRATmAN please you just mad cause you dont want to admit im right. white gsds (berger blanc swiss) do not have the same breed standard as the typical black and tan since the AKC does not recognize white gsds. which breed standard are you even comparing this gsd with? german show line? american show line? british lines? working lines? czech lines? DDR lines? and you are assuming this young white gsd even came from a champion line. there are many pure bred dogs without excellent pedigree.

  • @dehbee Stop trying to be a smart ass.Try to read - I said "general breed standard" if i wanted you to look at a specific line - i would have said so. All the lines you've mentioned only have few subtle differences - but in general they all have the same characteristics more or less. I stand by my statement that this is not a pure German Shepherd Dog. Please do not bother replying b'coz im not going to read it. Do me a favour stop bullshiting and listen to Jack Lalanne. Have a nice day punk.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN you started being the smart ass, not me. so now i cant be a smart ass cause i know my shit? each line of gsd is different. sure they all look generally the same cause they are all gsds, but thats what separates a byb with an legit breeder. a usa show would never appeal to german show breeders. someone that breeds "champion lines" would never generalize all the lines. you wont even google Happy because you cant be wrong. and i thought you said you had enough a post before this lol.

  • :):):)

  • Can someone who knows hit reply to this message and tell me what breed of dog Happy is?

  • @mikebgood white german shepherd

  • @cheeco8 Thanks, I really appreciate it.

  • @cheeco8 /or maybe.. 1/2 german shepherd ....right?

  • Lol Did he say "lesbian dogs" at the end?

  • 1:20 "I receive a lot of wonderful letters from you dogs...!" Ah ha! Now we REALLY know what Jack thinks of us!

  • Beautiful dog, nice vid.

Carnivores are adapted to rip flesh and pass partially digested, rotting and toxic fat from their bodies quickly. Pandas are physiological carnivores that survive on very low nutrition bamboo.

True story: I had to stop my GF from feeding the dogs cooked veggies cos they don't chew them and the garden looked like a bubble'n'squeak graveyard

  • @imnotabear what was the problem with the cooked veggies?

  • Dogs produce a minute amount of amylase in their saliva, and their pancreas does have the ability to produce it as well. HOWEVER, feeding grains in a regular diet, such as kibble, forces the pancreas to go in to constant overdrive to push out amylase that is abnormal to the body. The pancreas cannot produce ANY cellulose, which means any foods with corn as a top ingredient will be very hard to digest as well.

So you can feed kibble, but do you really want to force pancreatitis on your animal?

  • @Apatheticmuch The pancreas is stimulated the most by fats, followed by protein.Carbs are very easy on the pancreas, which is why a low/mod protein, low fat, high carb diet is recommended for dogs suffering from pancreatits. This is basic, scientific fact.

  • 1 sentence remarks with no back-up aren't going to do you any good, 1dgal. I would also like to know where you heard that wolves in captivity aren't fed raw, because I've researched and asked zoologists in the Smithsonian Zoo, and they tell me they are fed a ground mixture of raw meat, bones, and organs.

  • @Apatheticmuch On the Smithsonian zoo website, here is what they state their wolf diet is: Zoo Diet: Dry kibble dog food made for wild canines, plus treats of chicks, mice, hard-boiled eggs, and oxtail bones.

  • i <3 Jack lalanne he's awesome

  • His dog looks really strong! Could compete in Eukanuba!

  • Notice Jack's testis fell down on 1:21..

  • Thanx guys,Happy lived for 12yrs? that's not bad at all right?

  • happy was 12 when he died

  • Notice the dog flinching at 1:00...

  • I noticed no such thing.

  • i eat raw eggs daily too, seriously, thank God, there is no problem

  • The camera crew are in hysterics! :-D

  • Jack lalanne is 94 and still ripped so his dog happy probably lived to like 50 lol

  • @Ninety9Soulz

lol happy probably outlived most horses

  • I wonder how long Happy lived? Must've surpassed dog's age limit like he's owner lol.

  • 12 years

  • When jack calls you a dog take it as a compliment.

  • haha cute doggy

  • my cats are raw fed :D appropriate diet food for my babies

  • didnt you see Rocky?

  • dude that is jus tv ,,,olz dont be fooled ...i love u ok

  • actually, theres been lots of people that eat raw eggs...i remember road warrior Hawk (RIP) eating a couple on live tv....not me though

  • ive eaten raw eggs everyday for years , never got sick

  • Yeah, I've done it multiple times too. Nine times out of ten, people who tell you you're gonna get sick from it are people who have never done it before.

  • dogs can't get sick from eating raw meat or raw eggs

  • aww pretty doggy,.

i give my dog a raw egg every few days- helps to bind the stomache and gives him luxurious shiney fur.

  • he's got the same smile as Anthony Perkins. Like a genuine healthy smile

  • I love Jack but best thing was "all the letters I have been receiving from you dogs!"

I am truly laughing out loud!

  • Would that be a bit of a freudian slip?

  • jack's probably ashamed at whats in commercial dog food these days...feces, plastic bags, chemicals all to fund the vetrinary medicine industry

  • actually its left over meat grounded up. and there are some vegetables, depending on the dog food brand. since we all know dogs are omnivores, like us :)

  • The last I checked dogs do not produce amylase, which is necessary for breaking down cell walls, and they lack the grinding teeth that true omnivores have to do the task instead. Dogs also have a short, unsaculated colon, which is efficient at moving meat, bone and organ through at a rate of 95% efficiency. They lack the long, saculated colon, secum, and health bacterium necessary for breaking down plants and starches. Just because they can eat something doesn't mean they were designed to.

  • Many wild dogs eat plants.

And if dogs aren't omnivores, then why does every scientist say dogs are omnivores. And if dogs weren't "designed" to eat plants, then why was one of the oldest dogs ever recorded was fed mostly plants? If dogs weren't omnivores, that dog would have died within a few months...

  • Dogs are what they call opportunistic scavengers. Just because they eat something (because it tastes/smells good/ they are starving and there has been no recent prey) does not mean that they can fully digest it or properly digest it. This is why people who feed a homecooked diet have to PUREE the vegetables for their dog. Because dogs can't digest it otherwise AT ALL. If you give your dog a carrot, it's going out the same way it went in.

And you might want to check your resources... TBC

  • Because SCIENCE has recently classified dogs as canis lupus familiaris. The grey wolf is canis lupus. So ALL dogs, from the tiniest chi to the biggest mastiff, are now classified as domesticated grey wolves.

And if you look at the studies, in captivity when fed a proper prey model raw diet, grey wolves are living upwards of 15 years!

Why people say dogs are omnivores when they lack EVERYTHING that an omnivore has to make use of plant matter is beyond me. Just look at them. They are carnivores

  • Not to mention, if they are omnivores, why are so many dogs allergic to the grains that people like to pump into them? That seems a little contradictory to me. And why is it there are people out there who can feed a prey model diet with zero carbs and their dogs live to be 15 and 16 years old? I'm not saying anomalies don't happen (think the 100+ year old lifelong smoker who is healthy as an ox) but that is an exception, not the norm.

  • Most wolves in captivity are not fed a raw diet.

  • If a human doesn't chew a carrot, the same thing will happen...

  • @ralandon89 Another point ralandon89, Dogs evolved from wolves around humans, eating their leftovers including cooked, mashed, processed foods along with leftover offal, bones and other 'waste ' . There was no reason for them ever to evolve with chewing molars to process vegetables or grains, the humans did the work for them.

  • Dogs ARE wolves (wolf = canis lupus; dog = canis lupus familiaris).

And it goes beyond teeth, too. Dogs lack the digestive enzymes that herbivores and omnivores have that break down plant matter.

  • If you classify a carnivore as an animal that never ever ever eats a plant, then no animal on earth would be a "carnivore". Cats eat grass, too.

There's a video here on YouTube of a cow eating a chicken, does that make the cow an omnivore? Nope, cows are herbivores.

Dogs are physiologically carnivores. They don't efficiently digest plant matter (it must be artificially pureed first in a blender, and even then the nutrients aren't as bioavailable as nutrients from animal matter).

  • @abbyful Do you have scientific proof that the nutrients from pureed plants are not as bioavailable to dogs as the nutrients from animal matter?

Most dogs do not require carbs/plants in their diets, but to say they can't digest ground grains or pureed vegs if they are fed to them or get any nutrients from them is silly, it's simply not true.

  • Dogs lack the digestive enzymes to properly break down plant matter. Think for a second: if they can't properly break it down, do you think they are getting the same amount of nutrients from it that an omnivore or herbivore that *can* break it down would get? Nope.

  • @abbyful is this a fact? or just your point of view?even ifthey dont digest it "properly"he nutrients they get /even this way if it is so/are very essential to them.my 2 dogs eat from the street a specific plant and they choose which leafs they ll eat too.meaning she!st dog) knows which are better or more rich in whatever she s looking for.in rest ..theyeat all vegetable's even potatoes.they llllove cucumber.she(2nd dog)will steal it even if she has to open the fridge and

  • @delagrazia It's a fact. A dog cannot as efficiently use plant matter as they can animal matter. Plant matter must be pureed, else it comes out just like it went in (like corn kernels do in humans). Even with pureed plant matter, it's more work for the dog's system to draw and use nutrients from it. Just because your dog eats veggies doesn't mean they are required for her, dogs are scavengers, they want to fill their stomach.

  • @delagrazia And dogs usually want to eat whatever humans eat. Has your dog ever turned it's nose up at something? A lot of times if you pretend to eat it yourself, then offer it to the dog, the dog eats it because they think if you like it, it must be good!

  • @abbyful 1/after we reduced the meet he was fine 2)i don t mean hey eatt1/2 cucumber but half a kilo at one time.and not in my presenceas I said she steals it.they are crazy about watermellon and they eahe green part too(strangely)and ttheir stomach is fine.is true they want whatt you eat but if it sbread the ll smell and leave .i must mention ha because i used biological eggswhen i bought normal ones she wouldn it also candy+ jelly that have many chemical flavouring .that impressed me

  • @abbyful cause they love sweet.(which i knowis not good to give)you might be right and maybe it s on the books i haventresearched but my dogs eat veggies a lot and they dont have stomach problem with it/last week she stole 1 kilo!can u beleieve it?shouldnt she have diareea or smthing if she couldnt digest?/by the way yesterdayshe opened not just the fridge but the veggies drawer and took 2 cucumbers and few grapes i dontknow what2do anymore cause i cant beatt her ever and i cant use m fridge

  • @delagrazia It usually won't give a dog diarrhea to eat plant-matter they can't digest, it just passes through them the same way it went in. Feed a dog a handful of carrots and you'll see chunks of undigested carrot in their poop.

Be careful with grapes, they can cause renal failure in dogs.

  • @abbyful so it passes undigested./after 1k cucumberher poop was fine thats what i said/..carrots too but she eats just maximum3small so i cant say/grapes ive noticed2 they likethe sweet taste butavoid eating much.b.t.way do you know anything about fish(not fish bone)/(cause i e heard roumors is no good(can cause psoriasis) cant see why..or anything dangerous like you said 4grapes.thank you

  • @delagrazia Fish is fine for dogs, but should be frozen for a couple weeks first to kill off any parasites (especially if it's salmon).

As far as grapes, do a Google search for "ASPCA grapes" and you'll find some info. Some dogs it doesn't seem to bother, but it seems some end up after the vet after eating just a few.

  • @abbyful im sure you know what your talking about but my mom had a dachshund and he used to eat carrots like crazy and his poop was always normal never any chunks of carrots. He used to eat bananas, beetroot never had any issues.

  • @abbyful we had a Rottweiler before and cooked 4him 1/2 rice+1/2 meat usually liver.he had some kind of dermatitis and the dr.specifically said it was due 2too much meat and we have 2reduce it.after that he was fine.even most dog products have 8 to 20 %meat the rest is cereals and they all have a small percentage ofvegetables

  • @delagrazia Vets don't get much training in canine nutrition, what they do get, what they do get is usually about 1 chapter in a textbook, written by Hills dog food company. Vets are one of the worst places to get advice about the specific nutritional needs of certain animals.

The reason most dog food has a lot of grain in plant matter is because it makes it cheaper to produce, not because it's better for the dogs. And grain/plant matter is required as a binder to form kibble shapes.

  • I don't classify a carnivore as an animal that never ever eats a plant. I classify animals based on what they mostly eat. And dogs/wolves do consume wild berries and other plant life just as easily as animal matter. As I said before, if dogs/wolves were meant to be carnivores, then why would a dog that was fed just plants live longer than most dogs? If you don't believe me, look it up.

The fact remains, canines, like humans, are omnivores. Many scientists say the same thing.

  • @ironman711 A dog physiologically lacks the ability to efficiently digest plant matter unless it's pureed first. They may eat the occasional berry here and there, but they get little to no nutrition from it. You are trying to claim that an animal that essentially lacks the ability to digest plant matter is an "omnivore"?

rawfed (dog) com (slash) myths (slash) omnivores (dot) html

  • Dogs produce amylase, just not in their mouth. Plenty is produced in their pancreas.

  • Dogs do not produce amylase at all. Which is why it actually TAXES their pancreas to digest grains. DVMs Drs Aspen and Bloom did a study on it.

Humans have teeth DESIGNED to grind and crush a carrot, thus allowing us to further digest it. Dogs do not have these teeth that ALL true omnivores have. Dogs jaws do not move laterally to help them do this.

And I'd like to see your proof that most captive wolves are not fed raw.

  • @ralandon89 I don't believe that Aspen and Bloom are licensed veterinarians. They are glorified vet techs who went to ''kingdom college of natural health'', NOT the same as a veterinary college degree.

  • Did the dog live to be 92...

  • as far as i remember he had two dogs on the show both white i think. joy and happy. this is the first time im seeing this show since i was 8 yrs old and i did pretty good remembering his dogs names and what color they were.this was a morning staple in our house in the 60s when my mom was working at home typing envelopes for a company for extra money.

  • Didn't Jack LaLanne have a German Shepard as well?

  • This man was way ahead of his time. Feeding his dog RAW - just wow. He's truly an inspiration.

What a beautiful video, I've watched a few times now. Happy was just too cute.

  • letters from you dogs hahaha :D

  • dog food is mostly corn meal and soy, thats why they get so fat when they eat the stuff.

  • Yeah, you've got to mix some raw meat into a dog's diet. But who can afford that these days?

I'd get my own dog if he'd be chillin' like Jack's dog in this clip.

  • i feed my dog a completely raw diet and actually spend less than i ever did on "dog food." many of my friends who feed raw spend less, also.

  • jack makes me smile(:

  • i like that name happy for a dog

  • Happy was such a beautiful dog. Does anybody know how long he lived?

  • 16 years

  • From you dogs...ROTFLMAO!!!

  • I want to feed my dog something other than canned and dry dog food. I haven't got any idea how to feed her we have always used dog food. Can someone tell me where to find ggod information on my dog and my breed and wht would be ok to feed them?

  • I feed my pet all-raw, too. Prey-model diet; species appropriate. My diet for her is now called a "fad"! I wonder how Mr. La Lanne feels about the massive increase in diabetes for cats and dogs and the horrible deaths that people accept only a few generations after kibble was invented. I even hear vets call dogs "omnivores", as if Iams knew more than zoologists knew! Horrifying to go to a clinic now and see the suffering.

  • LOL enjoyed this video. Thanks for posting.

  • No one in America comes close to this legend, a man years ahead of his time

  • real american

  • @eyaaah Yes. And he was a man of character, too, reflecting some sense of values.

  • lmao, great comment on the legendary Jack LaLanne! Seriously, he has proven that not only does he practice what he always preached, but that what he preached really does lead to a LONG healthy life (well over 90 and still works out up to 6 days per week, eating 10 vegetables and 5 fruits as part of his daily diet! And, obviously, he enhanced it with a great sense of humor!!

  • I WONDER WHAT YEAR THE DOG DIED?

  • i wonder if the dog diddnt die yet? lol

  • GOOD POINT. I remember my mother working out to this show back in 1964

  • i guess this guy is a good example of healthy workouts and not using all that crap they got now to tank up yr body and before u kno it yr dead before u reach 50 or 60

  • Well, I would like to think that the best message from Jack isn't just necessarily "eat better to live longer" but to live better for longer by eating and living better! :) Such a simple message, but oh so important don't you think? :)
