sir,can u tell mi can we use basmati rice like kohinoor to make idli?how will they be...my one friend say dat its good.i live in jordan ..and here we dont get idli rava or any spices and dals as in india....how tomake idli using basmati?
wow ! have looked for gun powder repies high & dry as a north Indian in a foreign land. Finally hv found one which has everything for dosa dummies like me !
What we're told is unhealthy changes so rapidly it's impossible to keep up with it. Sanjay is presenting a traditional diet, not the latest nutritional speculation. Eating some fat, especiallly good oils and ghee, is essential to good health. Sanjay isn't fat like some celebrity chefs. Aside from the fact that he eats meat, I'd say he's doing something right.
sanjay i dont know much about this powder as i am not south indian.but u plz tell how to use this powdern also show the perfect recipe of idli n dhokla.i always make them but both of them never comes out right
You mix the powder with any cooking oil (occasionally some use ghee, but sesame oil is the best) and consume it with idli or dosa. I think he showed it towards the end of the video.
I always wanted to know how to buy asafoetida in Canada, from hindi stores.. Later, I figured out by tasting the hing powder which my north-indian friend used while cooking.
What is interesting is that, the hing which they use has different texture and taste..
Great idea to post this recipe. I am sure so many people asked you about it and its great that you showed powdering it in the blender. Because whenever I tell most of my friends they always feel that it can't be done in the blender. I have to thank you for having my point validated to my friends with this video.
I love when he says "Little bit of salt" and throws in hands full xD

I did n't like when you put oil in rice ..that looked pretty unhealthy ...

If you are so concerned about the oil, why don't you simply mix water and eat it - even better would be to just watch others eat and drool :)
