  • great video! Thank you. I was curious.

  • Can't wait to play these again.. (I just need to get a HD TV first, haha. As gorgeous as they were on the PS2 I'm totally psyched tho. As I just posted on IGN, I could care less about trophies & actually find them kind of annoying popping up all the time/wish they gave us grown-ups the ability to turn them off! In regards to comments about shaders etc, I still think they look better in HD, at least here.

  • awww shit, better graphics doesn't translate to actually better looking. the original version shad character in their graphics, shame shame shame sony. ok maybe sotc isn't so bad, but ico geezzzz.

  • @SuperMario16bit after watching this vid I was somewhat in aggreance, tho still thought PS3 looked better. if this vid is a good comparison, I definitely prefer PS3 graphics though, Ico included..

    /watch?v=mI1y8FiwIqQ&feature=related

  • @SuperMario16bit Hhhmmm... you are wrong, the title of the video is wrong since none of this games have actual better graphics... only higher resolution which means higher definition which means it looks better on HDTVs... thats it... oh and better framerate but the games have the same graphics

  • they used to be beautiful ps2 games at the time, now they are just bad graphics ps3 games

  • it still looks like shit

  • can anyone tell me the name of the song?

  • I just got the HD version today. The game is better than I remember. The new graphics do make the game feel different, but in a good way.

  • I like the PS3 graphics. Nice smooth outlines on everything. The choppiness of the PS2 version started to make my eyes tired after awhile. Also, it's nice to be able to appreciate all the fine details of the colossi.

  • ...I kind of like the PS2 version more. It feels more gritty with more immersion. The PS3 version feels too clean and detached.

  • @BeccaTran15 what? more immersion? detached? the looks have nothing to do with those, it's just you being nostalgic as fuck

  • @BeccaTran15 The game is exactly the same, just with HD graphics.I don't understand how upgrading to HD makes it less of a game,if anything that just makes it better.I agree with @jordon321 you're being "nostalgic as fuck".

  • @BeccaTran15 yea, "nostalgic as fuck" about sums you up. you're allowed to be such though, haha.

  • I preffer the graphics in PS2, because the PS3 versions have lost that cool bloom effect

  • @DJordydj and colour, too...

  • Ps3 titles are fucking awesome

  • well, time to go buy a ps3

  • I cant tell hardly any difference. these hd remakes are a rip off. this is why sony no longer makes ps3 backwards compatible. they dont want us to be able to play the ps2 version and hope to resell us the same games we have already played. what happend to when if a game was re released they actually made it worth buying. anyone whos played resident evil on gamecube or the twin snakes knows what im talking about.

  • @emocody1324 Not sure if serious...or if he has 47 chromosomes...

  • @emocody1324 You know these are remasters not remakes, right? Remakes means they added or excluded stuff from the original. Remasters are the same exact game, story, mechanics and all but with updated graphics and resolutions.

  • @soupathand remastered is what i meant.

  • @emocody1324 meh I can see the difference and I can see it worth buying these HD updates.

  • Comment removed

  • They look so beautiful. That last shot of Wander was just perfect *-* However, I can't help but miss the rough around the edges/this game is too much for this system to handle look~

  • this is a comment which isn't a reply. lol

  • What song is this?

  • Of course the HD is better i would just like to point out that it is not WAY better. and I dont mean that to flame the remake i mean it as a compliment to the original.

  • fucking controls

  • i like the HD version, sharper graphics, and much better frame rate. not to mention they added some extra details.

  • call me crazy, but, I like the ps2 versions better. Better colors and more of a "retro" look. The game was designed for this machine, and I think the ps2 versions are more authentic.

kind of like, playing super mario for NES actually on an NES, not an emulator.

  • @porlino87 Well... It's your opinion :/

  • @porlino87 Well that is clearly subjective, and I suspect that your preferring ico & sotc on the ps2 is more rooted in nostalgia, as opposed to any critical observations. I´ve played both sotc and sotc HD relatively recently, and in my opinion, this video doesn´t go that far towards showing just how noticeable the difference is when playing on a large HD TV, or just how much better the experience is for it. I can´t speak for ico yet, that game is like a chocolate with a razor in it.

  • @gamegloss I'm sure there are differences, and I'm sure the HD remake looks cleaner, sharper with better view distances. But, you can't deny that in this video, the colors and shading look better on the PS2 version.

And i'm curious, did you play SOTC on the ps2, or emulated on a ps3? I find that the ps3 emulation of ps2 games is terrible. A ps2 looks best on a good ol' CRT, as does it's games

  • @gamegloss if you look at 1:09, you'll see the difference. I'd even say that the textures look better on the ps2 version. Not in terms of resolution - but color and general look

  • @gamegloss I also prefer them on ps2 because I believe video games are art, and these are artifacts that were created to be played on a certain system. From the art point of view, there should never be remakes, but of course from a business point of view, it makes sense.

You can't take the mona lisa and make a HD remake, you know?

Anyway, bottom line, I'm claiming that the ps2 versions look better in terms of colors and lighting, therefore are the better versions IMO

  • @porlino87 The difference being that the mona lisa is a resolute image, it will not change, and cannot change without invariably altering itself. You have to take into account the drastically different nature of videogames in relation to other mediums. Sotc the colossus would be no less a masterpiece and monument to the artistic merit of this medium if it was originally released on the wii. Can the same be said in regard to the mona lisa, relatively speaking of course.

  • @gamegloss The programming in this game can be considered something that will not change. I understand that its crazy to compare this to the mona lisa, I'm just making a point

  • @porlino87 Me too. Evidently, you and I have very different ideas about what art is.

My point is that videogames, and cinema to a lesser extent, are uniquely limited compared to other artistic mediums. Crucially, videogames are limited by the cost of development and the limitations of the technology. But despite these obstacles, the artistic vision, which I believe is what really matters in art, remains the same, and will only become more vivid when limitations are overcome.

  • @gamegloss Yes we do have different opinions on what art is. I'm a little confused by your point because even the Mona Lisa was limited by the technology at the time; canvas material, paint composition, money to buy materials. But I agree that it is less of a problem in other media forms. Nevertheless, we both agree that SOTC shows a great deal of art in it

  • @porlino87 Certainly. Though, perhaps I should clarify my a little. Within the last few hundred years the methods and means of creating art, music, narrative etc.., have pretty much followed the same archetypal paths. The vision rarely outstripping the means of portrayal without the means evolving to meet the demands of innovation. With vidoegames, however, the vision will almost always tower above what is feasible. Imagine an ideal game, just think of one, but take you time. Exactly.

  • @porlino87 Anyway. This is all intellectual masturbation akin to pondering the notion of nothingness ;D Games are still very young, even compared to cinema. Trying to find a definitive framework, or theory, will take some time yet. Though the startling rate at which this medium evolves suggest that we won´t have too long.

  • @tieigo1 yes man... the effects are beautfull... I will Thumb you up!!!

  • they changed the saturation and fixed the antialiasing

  • @XMMM94

    saturate these nuts

  • @StallionDragoon sorry 2 disappoint u but i dont c no nuts mr.troll

  • what is the song?

  • WOW the framerate is AMAZING!!

  • What's the difference between the two? Depth and less jagged edges? Either I'm not noticing something more subtle or there's really nothing that different about the two...

  • @uraha1 me too. but maybe it's just youtube..?

  • I own these games on PS2, and they both made such an impact on me when I played them through. I don't own a PS3, but I would seriously consider getting one just for this. Also, does anyone know what the song to this is? It's painfully pretty...

  • hd but is 1080p or 720i/p like the most of ps3 games? anyway looks great, lets play and finish shadow of colossus and cry in HD this time (so saaaad ToT)

  • oh man i just followed through

  • So... why is Sittin On That Toilet a suggestion?

  • i almost feel like shadow is the prequel to Ico since there was the child with the horns at the end. I know their not meant to be connected, but its awesome that team Ico draws such great parallels between the games that you can make you own story as to their origins

  • @hrhockey

What? I could have sworn this is the origin of how the horned child came to be. Im pretty sure this is a prequel.

"Ueda, when asked about the connection between the two games, stated that Shadow of the Colossus is a prequel to Ico, specifically citing the ending of Shadow where a child is born with two horns."

In no way do i think its the kid from ICO but more of the roots of the cursed horned children

  • @ianthegamer could be

  • @hrhockey They are meant to be connected...in fact it was plainly said by every reviewer and the creators themselves. If you pay attention to the stories even it's pretty much drawn out to be a direct sequel, Ico to Shadows of the colossus.

  • @uraha1 ok .... listen hear douche obviously their connected by the same universe, I meant that they were not connected by the same direct story line only a implied story line, also I said shadow came before ico

  • sweet i;m trading my ps2 version of shadow the colossus for battlefield 2 for the pc and then buying the ico collection

  • Great work. This new hd remaster looks amazing!!! Thank you very much Fumito Ueda...

  • Zelda aint got shit on team ico

  • All the Zelda with none of the BULLSHIT. It was cool playing through ico and seeing the connections...pumped to moved onto SOTC. Why they don't make more games like it and it doesn't get more recognition is mind bottling.

  • Shadow of the Colossus was by far my favorite game on my PS2 even better than God of War to me. Now I can re wittness it and play Ico a game I've never played, IN HD!!!! Thanx Sony

  • I'm really considering to get me a PS3 for these remakes...

  • will this be released onto the playstation store?

  • Man, Shadow of the Colossus was beautiful already. It's like they don't even need to do much to it.

  • the HD version's PQ looks muddy as shit

  • the tentacles are so realistic! *unzips pants*

  • This is what I call a remaster in HD. I'm a fan of GoW, but their collection is only for money, this is far beyond that.

  • I'm TOTALLY Buying This :D

  • It's kinda hard to see truly how drastic the differences are in 480. Can't wait until the 27th!

  • @giantproof Uh... then watch in in 720p. O.o

  • Simply amazing!

  • I wish they would've remake it from scratch for the ps3 I wouldn't mind paying 60 for this awesome games

  • sorry but in 240p i cant see differences

  • I want an HD remake

of Champions of Norrath and Champions Return to Arms!

Thumbs up if you also want to return to play these wonderful games in HD

  • Comment removed

  • beautiful!

  • I was about to cry . when i completed the game ,

the ending is sad and mysterious

  • i never played both games but i have been checking out some reviews of both games and i came to the conclusion that i freaking love the story of both. is this game a must-buy?kinda hard to say since that september will be full of games. but if those 2 games are a truly classic, id say yes. 1ST DAY BUY BITCHEZZZZZZZ

  • @pakakaukik576pok Hell yes, it's a must buy. BEST GAMES EVER. I don't know if I can emphasize it anymore, just go out and buy it when it's released.

  • cant wait for this game, luv sotc art design..so beutiful....

  • Two of the best games I have ever played.

  • i'm so getting this and uncharted 3....great year for ps3 owners overall

  • Wow It Looks AMAZING! :P

  • Honestly, there isn't a massive difference with Shadow of the Colossus. Team Ico just did such a damned good job first time around. The improved framerate stability is definitely a good thing though. And extending out to widescreen for Ico is a good move.

Seriously, anyone who didn't play these two first time around, do not miss out

  • Badass

  • uh it doesn't look much better than the Ps2 version to me I don't know if that means they're lazy or the PS2 versions were way ahead of their time.

  • @Karascool It means they were ahead of their time in the PS2 version. I agree that it doesn't look amazingly better. they could have done more actual texture resolution upgrades, but at the same time, in my opinion these games were so gorgeous as they were, i'm ok with just elimination jaggies and upping the lighting technology. especially seeing as different textures might really change the visual aesthetic of the game in a way that wasnt really necessary in the first place.

  • Had one of the saddest endings ever though. I felt so pissed when I saw them get away. ( anyone who played it to the end knows what I mean. )

  • @FawkkYoCouch Saw them get away?

    they are friends no enemies

  • Doesn't look massively better... the games looked amazing to begin with.

  • PS2 broke and never got the chanse to play these so I am greatfull for the HD remakes

  • Hope they fixed the controls for the horse.

I became happy when Agro died, because the The Elder Crab-Rock-Dragon was a pain to defeat.

PS: Most likely you're in a country where the price for a PS2 was the same as 3 Happy Meals on the Scary Clown's Fat Burger Shop so if you're in 2011 (Obviously, duh) and never played this game, don't come Crying-in-shit about spoilers because you shouldn't have lost the chance to play on the PS2 like 6 (Yeah, SIX) years earlier >:(

  • @andrevoidelo Fuck you for spoiling and fuck you again ;) Agro wasn't hard to control

  • @dudetube911 hahahaha

I know, just "trying" to be a douche. XD

I found it hard to control because i took about 1 hour to notice Agro has a "Auto-Pilot" system.

I was like: "Oh damnit, i wanna go to THAT way, THAT!!1", and after he went to the right place were the Colossus was located :P.

    TROLOLOLOL

  • @andrevoidelo SPOILERS* Agro didn't die for your information. Honestly, I don't know how you were happy when Agro "died", that was a very sad scene. Just because you weren't good at controlling her, doesn't mean it was difficult to control. Also, don't spoil the game for others, like an ass.....

  • @Charliem1994 Agro it's a female horse? Wow :D

Not that i became happy but i was like "Aw come on, we fought all these giant assholes and you're gonna die just by falling 400mt? Okay, so just die >:("

And BTW i know Agro doesn't die, i finished the game anyway so i saw the ending :O

    Y U SO SERIOUS DUDE? ;)

  • @andrevoidelo I don't like people who complain and spoil games for others. If it was something that seriously needed fixing, fair enough. But, the control scheme was simple and easy to use.

  • @Charliem1994 Ok, sorry ]:|

But is Agro a female, really, wow :D

Don't know anything about the Asian Culture but Agro seems like a male name, Agro... :\

  • Comment removed

  • I knew the quality improved, but damn... I'm speechless...

  • Definitely buying this. I passed on Ico a long time ago because the cover made it look like shit. Huge regret. But I discovered Shadow of the Colossus a few years ago at a friend's house and it's been my favorite game of all time since.

I don't get excited about trophies, but bonus content like videos and art gallerys always excite me. Add in 1080p, 3D support, 7.1 surround sound AND they fixed the framerate and input lag on SOTC.

  • PS2 version graphics are actually quite different and good in their own way :)

  • I'm buying a playstation just to play shadow of colossus/ico

  • I'm not sure how I feel about this.

On one hand, I can clearly see the effect of the graphical improvement. However, the developers also seem to have removed a lot of the lighting effects that the game's mood and ambiance were so famous for.

  • @Crowmanhunter I think they've made the effects slightly more subtle but they are still there. I think they made the right decision, the impact of those effects would've been amplified in HD so they had to tone it down.

  • @Crowmanhunter I think a good example of this effect is U2's Rattle and Hum. The Bluray is just as grainy as the DVD. While people like it when film grain remains in tact, the final effect is that it the Bluray really doesn't look much better than the DVD version due to the absolutely heavy grain in place.

  • @Crowmanhunter

I call bullshit, probably just something with recording or settings, you can adjust a PS3 game to hell anyway.

  • The song's name is "You Were There", from ICO Originak Soundtrack.

  • Ps2 graphics of SOTC looks way better imho..

  • @DiuMeLoPor You must be blind. The PS3 version is too dark though so i get that but the characters look way smoother in the PS3 version. However, KH games on the PS2 look better than both of these games on the PS3.

  • @Hfajardo97 Your opinion.

  • @Charliem1994 LOL it isn't an opinion. Its a fact.

  • @Hfajardo97 How so? Two completely different art styles. It's too hard judge between the two.

  • @Charliem1994 Everything in KH looks crisper and there is better lighting. It's like you saying that you can't say Crysis has better graphics than Ratchet and Clank.

  • Comment removed

  • @Hfajardo97 Better lighting? I'm sorry but you should check your eyes out if you actually think that. Team ICO games have got a reputation for having spectacular lighting. Much, much better than KH. Crisper, not exactly either. Want to see amazing graphics? Check out the trailer for The Last Guardian (next game in the Team ICO series). It's been said to have the best graphics seen to date.

  • @Charliem1994 Okay, maybe it doesn't have better lighting than ICO but it sure as hell looks crisper in every way. Why are you talking about TLG? Oh and no, the best graphics on consoles can be found in Uncharted 2 and 3 and that is a known fact. TLG looks good but it doesn't support your argument since it comes a full generation after Team ICO's last project.

  • @Hfajardo97 It looks slightly crisper, but the art design in ICO wins hands down that's for sure.

Anyway TLG has much, much, much better graphics than Uncharted (and art design).

  • @Charliem1994 I don't see TLG having better graphics one bit. Lets wait until the game actually releases and compare that to Uncharted 3. The Art design is also not better at all. Its along the lines of the first Uncharted and Uncharted 2 and 3 improved on that a long time ago.

  • @Hfajardo97 Oh wait I have seen games that look like Uncharted all the time. Honestly, there are so many games that look similar to Uncharted there's no point listing them. Please tell me a game that looks remotely similar to the ICO series style of art. They are literally, the most beautiful games I have ever seen.

  • @Charliem1994 Games that look like Uncharted? The only thing that looks a lot like Uncharted is Tomb Raider and that is a fact.

  • @Hfajardo97 Uhh....no. Any game that tries to look as realistic as possible will look very similar to Uncharted. Speaking about Tomb Raider, Uncharted is just a big, fat rip-off with a male character. Frankly, it's not as good either.

  • @Charliem1994 *Facepalm*

  • @Hfajardo97 *Facepalm*.... fanboy in denial.

  • @Charliem1994 ROFL!

  • @Hfajardo97 It's pretty obvious LMAO

  • @Charliem1994 The irony.

  • @Hfajardo97 I still say denial.

  • @Charliem1994 Well i still say "the irony of your comments".

  • Do these games have perks and killstreaks?

  • Wow, the difference is amazing!

  • They gonna make HD remake's for PS4 as well?

  • simpsons hit and run hd

  • @GreatestAlive29 Why would you want that piece of shit?

  • i want the harry potter games remastered in hd

  • screw this, this is the reason we don't have a Ratchet and Clank Collection

  • @MultiPlaystationman

Do you even know what you're talking about? Most real gamers would rather have this than a Ratchet and Clank Collection! Plus, how the HELL is this the reason we don't have a R&C collection? Two completely different studios.

  • @Y2JM A collection with 2 games is useless, sony should have released these games on PSN, when a collections involves 3 or more games then its smart to put it on a Blue Ray Disc, and the studios don't matter, all collections are usually HD upscaled by another company, good example Sanzaru upscaled sucker punches Sly Cooper games for the Sly Collection

  • @MultiPlaystationman Usually these collections get put on the psn at a later time, GOW I&II are on the psn store.

  • @MultiPlaystationman

To YOU its useless. Just check out Playstation blog.share, this is one of the most requested there. So again, speak for yourself. And you also just contradicted you own comment. Yeah, a "collection" is mostly upscaled by a different company. Yet, you say this is the reason we don't have a Ratchet and Clank collection? You're not making any sense bro.

  • @MultiPlaystationman God of War collection was just 2 games as well. The game is only 40 dollars, which is probably cheaper than getting SD versions of both games. Plus, these games come bonus content that is never included with the downloadable versions(God of War II). And it's always nicer to have a physical copy with artwork.

I don't think it matters how many games, just how great they are. I'd rather get two amazing Team Ico games than three mediocre Tomb Raiders.

  • @MultiPlaystationman

Sorry but that doesn't make sense, God of War Collection is 1 & 2, Metal Gear Solid Collection is 2 & 3. These and all "PS2" games could be available in HD on PS3 and the focus should be quality not quantity. As mad as It is some people still don't have online play to download from PSN. It's part of Sony's library and should have been released along time ago. In my opinion.

  • @MultiPlaystationman why is this the reason we dont have R&C collection?

those are 2 COMPLETEY different companies.

and BTW. R&C has around 7 games i think? and the series has actually ended now. a different company is working on All 4 One. (which looks like its gonna suck.) but these 2 games are just a work of art. but OFC. you dont know becuase you have never played them.

  • @darkwatch127 no insomniac is actually making that All 4 one crap, thats the reason we need a R&C Collection, insomniac is ruining their franchise so we need to go back to the original

  • @MultiPlaystationman really? i heard rumors otherwise O_O but anyway. you cant blame this game to be the reason we are not getting something else. i have been asking for a jak and daxter collection for the PS3 but NOOOOOOOOOOO. and i would LOVE to have a collection of all the ratchet and clank games.(exluding the PSP ones) but i know thats not gonna happen. having sly collection made was fucking luck. AND I LOVE THEM FOR IT!! but we wont get anything other.......

  • wow they didn't change shit about the graphics. at least SOC is awesome Ico sucks though

  • @chuckleberryfin1012

You must be blind, and retarded for saying Ico sucks.

  • hmmmm I seemed to like the colour better in the ps2 version, gave it more atmosphere 2:22

  • As a owner of Shadow of the collossus i can tell you that you ain't playing that game for its graphic but for its epicness itself!

  • @QCThemountain soc looks epic back then and it still does, just the scale of the battles are breath taking

  • another 40 bucks. smh.

  • what a shit, looks better in a ps2 emulator.

  • @soulchip2 what a crappy troll? :D

  • @exia41gundam troll? excuse me, this game looks better on a ps2 emulator, have you every tried??? try yourself and you will see i'm not trolling, i'm telling you a fact.

  • Best game EVER!

  • Shadow of the Colossus looks EPIC to me

  • I don't see much of a difference, but I'm still getting it. Shadow was one of the best games I've ever played if not the best.

  • @WuTangBoomerang Seriously? The jaggies on the PS2 version are so distracting!

  • Even though it's ''only'' a graphical overhaul (+ trophies), I will still be buying this again. Anything that extends the playability of these 2 classic games is worth it

  • @LiquidCrusader - Now let's try and bug Square into making a HD collection of the PS2 Final Fantasy games.
