@sonnyblack71 actually Robert Johnson recorded in 1936-37. There was already a song called "Roll and Tumble Blues" by Hambone Willie Newbern that was recorded in 1927. Which one could safely say was the original source of influence, for Johnson as well.

It took me forever to try and research this, but I think Hambone Willie Newbern did the very first recording of Rollin' and Tumblin in the late '20s. And while I really love listening to Muddy's recording of this tune... try and find a copy of Rolling ' and Tumblin' with him being a sideman for Babyface Leroy. Muddy's guitar was really on fire on that record.

Rollin and Tumblin is Muddy's, but it's based on good ole' Robert Johnson's tune If I had possession over judgement day. Listen to that song and notice that Muddy only changed the lyrics a bit.

Actually that's wrong. This is a cover of Roll and Tumble Blues by Hambone Willie Newbern. RJ's song is based on that.
