  • I think it is important to remember that in terms of tuning, the tuning was off, but this parade had already lasted well over an hour in the sun. Tuning was done earlier in the day when it was much cooler, and as any good piper knows, tuning varies greatly with temperature.

This was the first year that lower music level cadets were admitted to the band, and to say everything is off is not accurate. Every cadet grew greatly as a musician and this is more important.

  • Good God, it gets worse! This abysmal display speaks volumes at the lack of ability of the instructors. At one time this P&D had the best available instructors in the cadet system, Major Cairns saw to that, it is now very obvious that this is no longer the case!

    This is an absolute disgrace!

  • @canqpiper

one of the main reasons for the tuning being out was the heat, we tuned when it was cooler and the temperature shot up. i'm speaking as the pipe sgt. that year. the tunes were not "beyond their means"

  • Where is that camp?!? Banff?!?

  • I assume that this is their show after six weeks of instruction and practice? Are there only three pipers playing during the first tune? Why are they so out of tune, furthermore how can this band expect to play Steam Train to Mallaig if their slow air during the set is not even together? If they have spent six weeks learning they should at least be able their slow air and be in tune....

  • i was just a t camp with feeland

  • Suggestions:

Tuning.... drones and chanter... try buying a Saul metre... they work wonders!

    Ensemble... playing in unison...

  • @commodore109

Well in that case, I invite you to come aboard. Are you in a position to come teach? Clearly if they are playing so poorly you must have expereince that you are prepared to share with them.

  • typical of cadet bands. they play tunes beyond there means. out of tune, timing way off etc.............. Our tax dollar at work???

  • @canqpiper

    Our tax dollar at work?

    Please, elaborate.

  • The drum corps was only bad cause we had some really good players then there were medium players then there was a persobn with really bad technique who sucked. They never tuned our drums correctly and such. And everyone that reads this from last summer at Rocky will definitely know who I am from one comment ahaha

  • a pipe band is only as good as it's tuning and ensemble. I know there are some solid solo players in that band, but it was painfull to listen to because of all of the dicontinuity of their music. the high g's almost made me cry! i would rather see simpler tunes (if it has to be scotland the brave and amazing grace then so be it) played well than flashy tunes played like crap.

  • WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWO

2007 Was actually the best year, UNTOUCHABLE!!!!!!

  • why is the cli pipes and drum band from blackdown better and much more entertaining than the national advanced pipes and drums

  • @referencebook101 you should really take performances into context. The CLI band at blackdown is strong, but compare it to the national pipes and drums before level 2/3 were admitted to the program. Also, this is the end of a graduation parade on a day of 30+degrees.

  • lol, the drum core is horrible. i can't belive i'm goin there this year.

  • buddy the drum corp changes every year what camp are you from anyways?

  • I LOVE PIPES AND DRUMS :)

    hehe
