@mystftg Ok. Just wondering because my main computer (GTX460, 3.2 ghz AMD Quad) has no support for it so it runs very slow but I have enough parts laying around to just about build another computer.
@11matt555 Hm I was sort of kidding with my reply. I guess modern systems don't have compatibility modes for these old games anymore. Especially with multicore CPUs and 64Bit operating systems, compatibility for old games has really gone downhill.
I'd recommend building an old system with Win2K or XP (at most) and maybe installing a 3DFX wrapper to help with GPU compatibility. That should work pretty good.
@mystftg Well if my memory is correct, then I think the Geforce 5200 is the card I used to play NFS3 on my first computer. It was the first game I ever played. The system im building is going to use that 5200. I'm building it to play some of my older games that wont work on vista anymore and to run a small minecraft server off of it.
@11matt555 of course it would even if was one of those crippled down ones with a 64bit memory bus. the fx 5200 came out in 2003 and is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more technologically advanced and faster than voodoo voodoo 2,3. ur comp should play it at max settings for hells sake this is only a direct x 6 game
nothing about this game was was/is very good. i was hoping it would be as good as NFS2 SE but I was very disappointed, The cars look like they are slightly off the ground, the 'in car view' is terrible, when you steer, the car seems to do a funny movement that I've never seen in any other racing game. almost as if the designers have never seen a car let alone driven one. :p
& gear changes were awful, almost as if you were in a 'slush-matic' rather than a manual.
@Mitko54682DS No, I don't think so. There's nothing in this game (made in 1998) that your video card (made in 2004) can't handle. I just checked the game again and the wheels ARE animated. The animations is just not very smooth and you can't see it in the video.
Try getting close to a car in cockpit perspective and look at the wheels. They move...sort of ;)
@WackoX1337 It's a voodoo1, I'm sure of it. But not the 4MB model. I'm using a Miro Highscore 3D, which has 6MB of memory. This allows the card to run some games the regular 4MB voodoo1 models can't, such as NFS3 or Diablo2.
The overall performance however, is a bit worse. I also have the Diamond Monster 3D (voodoo1 4MB) and it usually outperforms the miro card in most other games. Not by much though.
I remember the times when graphics accelerators were still a novelty. Man, the games looked jawdropping, I can still recall my amazement at Turok's graphics :)
Wow, I had almost the exact same system back in the day. The only difference being the video card. I had an ATi Rage II, then a Voodoo3 2000 PCI. I still remember having so much fun with Half-life, Jedi Knight, and Carmegeddon, among others. Good times.
oh my, how did you get to have the dashboard displayed in 3dfx? when I had this game with those same specs it said it won't show the dashboard when using voodoo cards :/
hehe, respect the classics :)

I still play this game :P Love it. It's got some scratches on it and stops every now and then but it still works.

Would a Geforce 5200 video card with a 2.54 ghz intel P4 play this?

@adroitgenius2 I was asking if it was compatible. I have a GTX460 in my main comp that is too powerful to run it.

This and NFS 4 for the PC are un-forgettable games for me, I still listen to the soundtracks today!

Will this work on Pentium I 0.3 GHZ and 10 kb RAM ?
lol jk jk ... no offence NFS 3 lovers... :P
Juppie902 6 months ago
@Juppie902 the 10kb ram might be too little =p I had a Matrox G200 with 8mb ram and it run just fine. with the 0.3 ghz as you said lol.

Will this run well on my Diamond 3dfx Voodoo1 4MB card?
RkivUnderground 7 months ago
@RkivUnderground I think the Diamond Voodoo1 (or almost all standard Voodoo1 cards for that matter) will run it well.
With 4MB the game is said to run terribly slow. But I haven't tested it with my Diamond V1, maybe it'll work.
My Voodoo1 is a miro Highscore 3D which has 6MB of RAM, allowing some, well, a few, games to run on this computer which won't work with a 4MB model.

@RkivUnderground i had no problem with my diamond monster 4MB 166mhz

Why does the car oponents wheels are stuck as if the cars are not driving in NFS3 ?
its like the wheels of the oponents are freezed but not. cause the cars move and drive though.
Mitko54682DS 10 months ago
@Mitko54682DS I think it's a graphics setting. The car models aren't set to the highest level in this video.
mystftg 10 months ago
@mystftg well its the same for the highest settings. maybe because my integrated gpu? (geforce 6100)

@Nima5124 you need a 3dfx voodoo to run this game. newer cards are not supported properly. (sarcasm)

@XabiDellugo Are you sure you're not confusing this with the predecessor, NFS2SE? This game had the exact problem you're describing.
With NFS3, I didn't do anything special, the game isn't patched and I didn't use any obscure drivers.

@XabiDellugo I had voodoo 1 2 and 5 they all worked and showed dash came display when you hit the change button.

Nice performance, especially for such an oldschool system. I really like the idea of a "retro machine"!
