Don't confine yourself like that- don't try to write a song out of a specific scale, try to write a song out of what you feel. There are always various chromaticisms and 'outside' sounds that could very well end up becoming a motif of a piece.

Well With a pentatonc you are limiting yourself in two ways one you are limiting yourself to a certain scale and two the scale only has five notes. I say the riffs and Solo can be based on scales butnot whole songs. Atleast not till you have more experience. Try making music with out theory (it may not be the best but so what) then slowly add more theory to the mix.
