The Soviets left their occupation zone on schedule; the US did not. Also, all those wonderful, mondern buildings they 'proudly showed' were built by the Japanese occupiers. The term 'Japs' is derogatory and this video would be banned in Japan for many reasons. We installed Synghman Rhee, a war-monger, and divided the peninsula by allowing him to hold elections: Better to have at least half of Korea than lose it to the Communists in a nationwide election. @gemcitykid NO, the Soviets did no such thing. They might have pulled active duty troops, but they still were funneling agents to prepare for the takeover of the entire peninsula. That's why Soviet soldiers dressed up as N.Koreans during the war and shot down Americans. "We" didn't divide the nation, it was all aranged with the Soviets and the UN. Syngman Ree wasn't perfect but he had to protect the nation from Soviet agents. I guess you think N Korea is such a massive success, doofus.

We didn't learn from our 1945 error to appease Russian advances in Korea, and history repeated itself in Vietnam when we chose to intervene and prevent communism (also financed by Russia) after the French failed to recolonize North Vietnam. Thirty six years later, after much ridicule from bailing out of SEA (because of media and public outcry), we're now facing two new embarrassing bail outs (also foreign policy mistakes). We never learn.

Reservists and subsitute servicemen are first reassigned as active duty personnel in wartime before entering combat. It should also be reminded that civillians can be court-martialed even in peacetime under certain conditions(attacking a soldier under guard duty, trespassing military facility, illegal possession/theft of military firearm(a capital offence eligible for murder sentences)).Failing to accomplish military supply contract is also a capital crime in war.
Civillians become war criminals if they raise weapons against uniformed military; the Geneva Conventions do not apply to them anymore. Communist rebels often disguised themselves as civillians and hid weapons. A similar situation is depicted in the movie "Rules of Engagement". In addition, the penalty for wartime treason is death by court martial in a one-stage trial.The communist insurgents would have been declared enemy combatants under the post-9.11 situations.
