I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. The United States does not "execute" unarmed combatants. It's against the Third Geneva Convention and has been since the early 20th century. Prior to that, war was considered to be somewhat gentleman-like and quarter was often given after an enemy had been beaten. Exceptions were made in Santa Anna's case in order to make the point that rebels would receive no mercy.

Awesome movie, the only thing I didn't like was that they made it seem like Texas was part of the US at the time. There was a scene in which they have to explain a Black guy that slavery was illegal in Mexico. Are you kidding me? They were in Mexico...lol! Oh, Hollywood!!!

But basics of it is, alamo was used as a fortress for a long time even before the famous battle of the alamo :P
long story short texas wanted independence from mexico. mexico wanted texas so the people in the alamo were rebels along with the few proffesional US soldiers which were sent from the US
