I just spent a good five minutes in shock when I spotted Justin Young in this video, him and Frank Turner are some of my absolute favourite musicians. To see them together is a bit amazing. Love this song!!
@guidosegers Guido, trust me you will some... Your friends to people you meet at Frank turners gigs, You'd be surprised at who love frank after listening to him after a while! He's like a never ending fire :p once you're caught you're never lost! Just encourage them
this was the first song I ever performed solo. I played at open mic night in a church basement for 15 people. I wanted to post it, but my dumbass friend forgot to turn on the camera until half-way through the song.
ekmb is a really good album, but nothing on the first two. siftw and lias have that very personal feel this song has that 'i have no idea where this is going to take me' but a defiance of not giving up. so glad he is as big as he is now i just hope he goes through some shit to create more songs like these (well obviously nothing too bad maybe a couple of bad relationships so more songs like wisdom teeth and heartless bastard mother fucker.) ftftw
This my favourite frank turner song. I love it because it reminds me of my 'gang' of friends: the romances, the drama, the long summers spent on overcast beaches. that eclectic group of people that formed me as a person. whenever I think of those times I feel a beautiful glow that permeates from within me from what I image a religious man would call my soul. I love frank and all his music but those last few lines echo my feelings more accurately than any musician has done since the smiths.
@PhilToTheMax I got into Frank a wierd way: 'Try this @ home' was in a rocksound cd for an issue in which frank insulted hayley williams in a interview (I've been a paramore fan since their 1st album). I knew Million Dead, but not his solo stuff, so I had a listen despite myself and loved it. Checked him out on youtube, learned a few songs. Fastforward to now: RAG week in uni, sitting out in the sun yesterday evening, me and my friends reflecting on stuff...
@PhilToTheMax cont... like how all our bands are going nowhere and the economy is so bad we won't have jobs, but also about how this time next year we'll be facing into our last 8 weeks as undergrads, going our seperate ways. We were a bit sad, but one of the girls is learning guitar, and she started playing this song. I know it too, so I joined in on another guitar, and soon everyone was singing. Perfect end to the evening, even if it made a few of us cry...
@PhilToTheMax cont... and then we got another round in at the bar ;).... never been a smiths fan tho... but frank's amazing, by 15yo brother and 50yo dad, both of whom hate the music I like, love frank too (i told them about him). See? He transcends generational bounderies!
@meddeyc I hope he never gets a huge fan base though. Look what its done to other bands over time, they have eventually lost the message in the music they make and thats what I think Frank is about, he delivers an amazing message within every song
I hope that Frank stays as he is; hes a genious and a living legend :)
Just saw him last night in Atlantic City. My second time seeing him. He is an absolutely amazing songwriter, an incredible performer, and a genuinely nice person. After he played, he was running his own merch booth. My friend got kicked out of the show during Social D, and Frank witnessed the whole thing going on. As security was dragging my friend out, Frank came out into the hallway, and tossed him a free t shirt!
Is it just me or did anyone else notice that this song is about a million times different from anything you will ever hear. It is a poem put to music not lyrics to fit music. There is not chorus and no classic guitar breakdown. I think if anyone wanted to know what Frank Turner is about it is this song. You have to listen to the music, but its also the sad reason why he wont get the recognition he deserves.
@twheelchairracer26 its actually folk in form. Folk songs originally were just a series of verses, whereas now pop has decreed all songs require verse/chorus structure. Thats why it sounds so unusual, but actually its following a long tradition of music that is as old as human civilisation. Its a folk song for the 21st Century, in fact.
I cannot express with words how much I absolutely LOVE this song. Everything's so inspirational, especially the last bit. 'They help us with remebering, that the only thing that's left to do is live...'
only a year and a half? i cant say i have kept very good track of music videos the last year and a half, just checked out the poetry of the deed video though, very good, some brilliant shots too, didnt Andrew Baker work on it as well? must of been pretty cool going to all those frank gigs, fake problems are good too. oh I saw you on Franks tour diary a while ago aswell.
@chrisfishlock my favourite along with photosynthesis! but as long as you love frank turner i dont care which song you like as the are all great but would like to know your personal fav!
Let's begin at the beginning: we're lovers and we're losers, we're heroes and we're pioneers, and we're beggars and we're choosers. We're skirting round the edges of the ideal demographic. We're almost on the guestlist, but we're always stuck in traffic. We've watched our close associates up and play their parts; they're chatting up the it girls, and they're tearing up the charts, while we were paying with coppers to get our round in at the bar
aha, would this be the video you mentioned on the train last night? assuming this indeed you! i like it. can't wait to see the new video and the photos looked pretty sweet too. hope you got home safe and enjoyed sleeping in a bed. nice talking to you :) x
Frank is just a badass guy all around. I saw him at Parkside in Sf. (A shitty dive-bar haha.) He just has this awesome essence about him. I see why people are so drawn to him.
i have a few small minded mates that dont think theres any decent singer songwritters around, clearly they havent heard of frank turner! 'Its not bob dylan' your right this is music that is important today and good on him for making music that screams importance and substance!

Every lyric but "Get another round in at the bar" is a masterpeice. I just think there are much better ways he could have thought of to end it.
Bammarjackass 10 months ago
@Bammarjackass I think it brings an otherwise epic narrative to an abrupt, relatable close.
Frank Turner's crazy-talented, but he's not larger than life.
I think it's a pretty good ending, maybe a bit abrupt, but still.
