@hellchild65 hmmm, its like an oxymoron to me, whilst the sound seemed to come together in the mainstream terms of things, the actualy music suffered.
this is shit..you twits need to listen to the "real" PIL...this is like listening to a cabaret act doing PIL...fucking shite...LYDON was brilliant but steadily went down hill after Wobble and Levene left...
Mr. Lydon did not seem to get the credit he deserves... his music is so POWERFUL....oh well, the underdogs are the ones to watch and listen to if you want to learn something.
You make me feel ashamed At acting attitudes Remember ridicule It should be clear by nowclear by now Your words are useless Full of excuses False confidence Someone has used you well Used you well I could be wrong It could be hate As far as I can see Clinging desperately Imagining pretending No personality Dragging on and on and on and on... ...Whatever pass Could never last All in your mind Where it all began You're doing wrong It's not the movies And you're old
If you mean the kind of iridescence below his eyes, then yeah, i noticed that too. Actually, it always seems to be there? Perhaps it has something to do with a history of crazy amphetamines? I dunno.
@CerebralCrisis what has that got to do with music?? from 20's to 80's (new shit) all performers used drugs always will end of. get over it. john tried to change things. sucsess / failure dont know , but he tried......
I was responding to someone who commented on his eyes. His EYES; not his music. Obviously, his music has nothing to do with drugs and I am fully aware of the fact that narcotics have always played an active part in the lives of many creative people, you patronising twat.
It's a fact that John was once an acid and amphetamine junkie. He also suffered meningitis as a child - thus, his eyes, and his eyesight, are rather off-kilter. He is an epileptic.
@CerebralCrisis calm down, calm down! looks like you have read his book, so now you know everything, Why do you find my comment patronising and why am i a twat? For expressing my opinon?? I think we all Know who the twat is if you follow...
Actually, I've done more than just read his book. Also, I was merely reacting (probably overreacting) to the fact that you appeared to misinterpret what I said, and also, told me to 'get over' the fact that many musicians use narcotics, as though I was some clueless imbecile.
I didn't want to be argumentative, I just don't appreciate it when people respond to other peoples' individual comments in a derogatory manner - although clearly I am a culprit of if it also? Sorry.
here is what the Russian said. "look here and try to see the Sex Pistols. but no, Th for clowns? where Rotten?? the one that sings like no one who was in the Sex Pistols."
just think this sound came out what, a year after the Sex Pistols broke up? For john Lydon and crew to make such a switch is amazing. Lydon is a genius. Period.
Energy, we need such creative and diverse energy. From people though, not bloody scientists playing black noise beneath a possibly bleeding Switzerland.
this video was taken from the lp live in japan 1983. the lp was a "compilation" of the two gigs in tokyo. the show was also recorded in video but i never find it in dvd.
Sorry, but you're mistakken, it's china where they are not allowed to dance and scream, it's announced before a show and the amount of heavy looking chinese cops is most of the times enough to prevent the crowd from doing so,but i've seen a show once where the crowd didn't listen and the police didn't interfere.
Nope, they didn't, but Paul Simon is till now the only person who was able to let them all dance.I'm sorry for Johnny Lydon, but I think they wouldn't let him in in China, unfortunatly.BTW this has nothing to do with my taste, it's just a fact (the China thing)
This is a great version, no matter who's playing. And about the bass,I'm a bassplayer myself by I really luv the bassline,I often play alonf for 15-20 min.ofcourse you have to develop as a musician, but that doesn't mean a simple bassline can't be good.I like low bass that just goes on,if it has the right groove the numbers on tones you spay isn't important.often less is more!
no problem, I understand what you mean. And we communicate, unlike some people i've read things from I wouldn't dare to repeat. We both like PIL, and it's good to share meanings the way we do,thanks for reacting anyway.
WOW, this is an EXCELLENT video I hadn't seen before, thank you much for posting. His natural hair color is ginger.....the color on I'm a Celebrity was the real color
some of you are a buch of wannabe-connaisseurs - the guitar-player is John McGeoch - you might want to google him - he was a more than just adequate replacement for Levene.
his real hair colour is blonde, although u maybe right that he may have dyed his hair in 'seattle' (it looks bleached) his real hair colour is blonde and its much lighter than the "seattle blonde" hair. When I first saw his hair colour which was red, even i thought it was real cos u saw that colour EVERYWHERE but to my suprise his hair is blonde
The problem with metal box is that it didn't got the right treatment in the studio sessions, so any other versions of it songs are better than the originals.
i dont think any better versions of death disco, no birds do sing, or graveyard exist besides the studio versions. really, memories and chant are the only metal box songs ive heard that are much better on live bootlegs than on the album.
this video is probably the first good one ive seen of post-levene pil doing levene-era pil. most of the later versions are awful.
i have it and the long version is ok but it's just an extension of the studio version. instead of looping "words cannot express" at 4:30 or whatever the album length is, it's the full take. levene's guitar gets better as it goes and lydon gets more and more emotional (i swear you can hear him tearing up, his voice is quivering really bad towards the end) but wobble starts fucking with the bassline and playing different things, which is a mistake because the death disco bassline is perfect.
