  • gotta love the coke addled experimental 80's music, tore the term "music genre" a new one

  • como queria ta la neste tempo porra bom demais seria hoje so tem banda de merda e nimguem pra melhorar essa porra nimguaem de atitude porra

  • This is from New York.

  • Brilliant, but it sounds too perfect to me, it was about this time in PIL after Levine and Wobble were gone, it all seemed to fall apart.

  • @012greenej Idk man, even after they left they still made some pretty sweet songs for awhile after

  • @hellchild65 hmmm, its like an oxymoron to me, whilst the sound seemed to come together in the mainstream terms of things, the actualy music suffered.

Altough I do like Flowers of Romance.

  • LOVE IT 8'DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

  • where is this concert ? Live in tokio ?

  • Ah, mannn. This version is THUMPING!

  • this is shit..you twits need to listen to the "real" PIL...this is like listening to a cabaret act doing PIL...fucking shite...LYDON was brilliant but steadily went down hill after Wobble and Levene left...

  • thanks the uploader!!!

  • Mr. Lydon did not seem to get the credit he deserves... his music is so POWERFUL....oh well, the underdogs are the ones to watch and listen to if you want to learn something.

  • PiL gave Johnny Rotten more crediblility as a musician than the SP's ever could have...

  • Johnny looks like very mad with his hair <3

  • it's amazing he's screamed for so many years but his voice is intact

  • Strava!!!

  • " For john Lydon and crew to make such a switch is amazing. Lydon is a genius. Period."

You can thank Levene + Wobble for the sound. The band in this video is pretty mechanical.

  • @neurogami - That looks like Wobble playing bass in the vid?

  • @pdxphreek Wobble? No fucking way, Wobble left, then Levene. Then Lydon, with a Japan tour coming up, grabbed some bar band and made them "PiL".

  • Johnnyboy @ his very best

  • King Johnny... no one can beat him..

  • @8busby apparently, justin bieber is a very strong force nowadays

  • check the size of the video camera Johnny's carrying, lol

  • i love ittttttttttt

  • I love this song.

  • What band is this? It should be the Wobble/Levene era but that doesn't look like them back there to me.

  • You make me feel ashamed At acting attitudes Remember ridicule It should be clear by nowclear by now Your words are useless Full of excuses False confidence Someone has used you well Used you well I could be wrong It could be hate As far as I can see Clinging desperately Imagining pretending No personality Dragging on and on and on and on... ...Whatever pass Could never last All in your mind Where it all began You're doing wrong It's not the movies And you're old
  • ahh..the memories..

  • johnny rotten is musical royalty.

  • @GikeMoldberg too fukking right mate!

  • LYDON IS THE MOst under rated musician Ever.

  • This is brilliant material? What do you people consider bad?

  • Why is Lydon so Fucking crazy. Love PiL and the Sex Pistols

  • i loled at his eyes, their not focused.

  • Comment removed

  • im gonna see these guys at coachella this april!

  • Is he Crying????

  • What do you mean?

If you mean the kind of iridescence below his eyes, then yeah, i noticed that too. Actually, it always seems to be there? Perhaps it has something to do with a history of crazy amphetamines? I dunno.

  • @CerebralCrisis what has that got to do with music?? from 20's to 80's (new shit) all performers used drugs always will end of. get over it. john tried to change things. sucsess / failure dont know , but he tried......

  • I wasn't talking about the music, actually.

I was responding to someone who commented on his eyes. His EYES; not his music. Obviously, his music has nothing to do with drugs and I am fully aware of the fact that narcotics have always played an active part in the lives of many creative people, you patronising twat.

It's a fact that John was once an acid and amphetamine junkie. He also suffered meningitis as a child - thus, his eyes, and his eyesight, are rather off-kilter. He is an epileptic.

  • @CerebralCrisis calm down, calm down! looks like you have read his book, so now you know everything, Why do you find my comment patronising and why am i a twat? For expressing my opinon?? I think we all Know who the twat is if you follow...

  • Fine. I'm a twat. Right.

Actually, I've done more than just read his book. Also, I was merely reacting (probably overreacting) to the fact that you appeared to misinterpret what I said, and also, told me to 'get over' the fact that many musicians use narcotics, as though I was some clueless imbecile.

I didn't want to be argumentative, I just don't appreciate it when people respond to other peoples' individual comments in a derogatory manner - although clearly I am a culprit of if it also? Sorry.

  • @CerebralCrisis No problem, apology accepted. John is one of my heroes too.

  • Cool. Yeah, he definitely is a pretty wonderful guy. Underrated and misunderstood.

Anyone who appreciates him is A-OK in my book. (:

  • Yes he is genius very

  • Fantastically brilliant. Rotten is a fucking genius .

  • Wow this is so intense. Jeez, so powerful.

  • Very chingon!! This was really rock,

  • ¡¡ INCREIBLE , FANTASTICO !!

  • here is what the Russian said. "look here and try to see the Sex Pistols. but no, Th for clowns? where Rotten?? the one that sings like no one who was in the Sex Pistols."

  • fu**ing awesome and brilliant!!!

  • Which movie is this from??

  • Anarchy Movie live in Japan 1985

  • delirio...punk & nostalgia

  • PiL were a brilliant band!

  • no dey wasnt.....john even knows it

  • The only good stuff that PiL made were the first three albums. The rest shouldn't have existed. Or maybe existed under a different name. Oh well.

  • You are wrong. Have a good day, sir.

  • bona basgitaro

  • It's not Levine, or Wobble, but Lydon makes it live!

  • you are full of bullshit.

  • great example of a coked up performance , hahha , just take a good look at Lydon and Atkins ... awesome

  • his voice....oh god! oh lydon fuck me!

  • Could be a LOT worse.

  • ?^^

  • Is this still Jah Wobble? I can't get a good look at him.

  • Comment removed

  • No wobble left the band 5 years previous to this. to see wobble look for pil bad baby or careering

  • No, for wobble search public image careering or chant or bad baby

  • his voice... that voice.. so intoxicating

  • nuffink wrong with butter, use it on me fucking toast everyday.

    anarchy?

    on burnt toast it is.

  • no where near pil.

    johnny and his boys.

the atart of johnny going up his own arse.look where he ended up.... butter adverts. real anarchy.

  • and you are the living definition of "arse-wipe"

we all have our cross' to bear.

  • just think this sound came out what, a year after the Sex Pistols broke up? For john Lydon and crew to make such a switch is amazing. Lydon is a genius. Period.

  • @Evilpoptart2006 this was in tokyo around 85. : )

  • One of the coolest fucking things i've ever seen, no question.

  • great bassline!

  • Energy, we need such creative and diverse energy. From people though, not bloody scientists playing black noise beneath a possibly bleeding Switzerland.

  • i wish my ipod connect to the computer : (

  • we all need pil now and then

    fucking awesome bassline

  • Such a great performance, really fucking great!

Cannot stop watching and listening, already ripped it into mp3 for my iPOD!

Much better than the Studio Version!

  • how can i transformit onmp3???? tell meeeee

  • The great Johnny Rotten.

  • What great music, it makes you listen. You can't play this in the background of anything else for long...it takes over. Cheers!

  • this has a bit of a deathrock edge to it.

  • I think his voice is unique and awesome..

    he CAN sing.

    xP

  • you cant sing like him do you?

    hahaha

    mother fucker

go away if you dont like lydon music

    please respect

    thank you very much

    fuck off.

  • john beat you to it, he has said time and time again that he can't sing although his fans would disagree including me

  • wrong. he could sing when he was in the Pistols and this band. now though, not so much.

  • this song sounds more great live

i miss the bass of wobble and levenne in this song but its fucking great lydon voice its great here

  • agreed. pretty much every song on this cd (album) was a basement or club hit. love it love it!

  • Jah Wobble always had the thickest, coolest bass sound. I find his bass was as integral a part of the early PiL sound as Lydon's voice.

  • this lokks like the 1983 world tour, martin atkins on drums n the penguins on instruments.

  • LOVE this soooooooo much!! Thank you.

    :-)

  • wow! this band is fuckin awesome!

i always heard of this band and one day i saw them in VH1 and my life changed!

  • Yes, there is an anarchy movie and this is part of it. Great!!! I just love this gig in Japan!!!

    Well, I just love John!!!

  • theres an anarchy movie??

  • this video was taken from the lp live in japan 1983. the lp was a "compilation" of the two gigs in tokyo. the show was also recorded in video but i never find it in dvd.

  • i like the fact many pil songs are just too long;)

    still great

  • Fucking Great Thanks Matias

  • Here John becomes the future Thom Yorke. Ahead of his time again. But I could be wrong...

  • "I could be wrong, I could be right. I could be black, I could be white..."- PIL-Rise

Aha, it's fuckin awesome, Rotten's the best, his killer stare comes directly imported from hell.

    PIL's so original!

  • Ithink this about Malcolm.

  • I Never Get Tired Of Listen Over And Over Again Pil.

  • Oh This Song Its Very Cool

  • From The Anarky Movie

  • what's this song about?, I've tried figure it out without any luck

  • Where was this ?

    Great performance.

  • I believe this was in Japan, but i could be right, i could be wrong.

  • nah, coz the crowd scream at the start, and apparantly theyre not aloud to do that in japan.

  • Sorry, but you're mistakken, it's china where they are not allowed to dance and scream, it's announced before a show and the amount of heavy looking chinese cops is most of the times enough to prevent the crowd from doing so,but i've seen a show once where the crowd didn't listen and the police didn't interfere.

    But guess who played there.

  • Really? I didn't realize the Guess Who toured internationally.

  • Nope, they didn't, but Paul Simon is till now the only person who was able to let them all dance.I'm sorry for Johnny Lydon, but I think they wouldn't let him in in China, unfortunatly.BTW this has nothing to do with my taste, it's just a fact (the China thing)

  • John prolly told them fuck off at one point, dear sweet John.

  • I somehow doubt that.......listen to Cheap Trick's "At Budokan".......plenty of screaming on that.

  • That's Japan.

  • Great version of Memories!!! Love this.

  • This was from their 'Live In Tokyo' video from 1985.

  • No it aint - its from the `Anarchy movie 1985`. Live in Tokyo was from `83.

  • ah it is nothin without jah wobble n keith levene

  • i totally agree!!! but it's quite honest as well

in that song what is really missing is that tone change from the bass like pumping the low freq suddenly!

  • This is a great version, no matter who's playing. And about the bass,I'm a bassplayer myself by I really luv the bassline,I often play alonf for 15-20 min.ofcourse you have to develop as a musician, but that doesn't mean a simple bassline can't be good.I like low bass that just goes on,if it has the right groove the numbers on tones you spay isn't important.often less is more!

  • sorry for the typing mistakes

  • sorry what i tried to say was the sudden timbre change that the original recording has

  • no problem, I understand what you mean. And we communicate, unlike some people i've read things from I wouldn't dare to repeat. We both like PIL, and it's good to share meanings the way we do,thanks for reacting anyway.

  • outstanding video ..the whole show is awesome

  • This is awful without Wobble and Levene!

  • WOW, this is an EXCELLENT video I hadn't seen before, thank you much for posting. His natural hair color is ginger.....the color on I'm a Celebrity was the real color

  • one of the best punk/new wave bands of the 80's

  • This is actually a good version, even Lydons singing is good. So don't be pissed just cause it ain't the "right" crew.

  • fuck y'all they sounded awesome and powerful

  • some of you are a buch of wannabe-connaisseurs - the guitar-player is John McGeoch - you might want to google him - he was a more than just adequate replacement for Levene.

  • The guitar player looks like Mark Shultz..I am not too sure though.

  • pffft. sans levene and wobble this is just dreck.

  • Is that John's real hair colour? I've always wondered.

  • His true hair colour must be like sex pistols in winterland san francisco, I guess. If you watch "Seattle", you can tell his hair is dyed blonde.

  • He's mousy/dark blonde, but in the winterland concert he's MULTI coloured - so that can't be his right colour at all.

  • his real hair colour is blonde, although u maybe right that he may have dyed his hair in 'seattle' (it looks bleached) his real hair colour is blonde and its much lighter than the "seattle blonde" hair. When I first saw his hair colour which was red, even i thought it was real cos u saw that colour EVERYWHERE but to my suprise his hair is blonde

  • This sucks. It's post-Levene and Wobble and sounds like a bunch of LA session musicians, which is what they were I believe.

  • Shame this line up didn`t last longer. They sound way better live than the late 80`s early 90`s setup.

  • Oh my favourite PiL song!! :D

No crazy keyboard like on the Metal Box version but still fookin' excellent!

  • It's much more better than the original one!

  • The problem with metal box is that it didn't got the right treatment in the studio sessions, so any other versions of it songs are better than the originals.

  • Yes, they were difficult years for John...but it still remain a great album!!

  • i dont think any better versions of death disco, no birds do sing, or graveyard exist besides the studio versions. really, memories and chant are the only metal box songs ive heard that are much better on live bootlegs than on the album.

this video is probably the first good one ive seen of post-levene pil doing levene-era pil. most of the later versions are awful.

  • Death Disco version in Lydon's dvd is about 10 minutes long. You (and me, because I haven't) should hear that one.

  • i have it and the long version is ok but it's just an extension of the studio version. instead of looping "words cannot express" at 4:30 or whatever the album length is, it's the full take. levene's guitar gets better as it goes and lydon gets more and more emotional (i swear you can hear him tearing up, his voice is quivering really bad towards the end) but wobble starts fucking with the bassline and playing different things, which is a mistake because the death disco bassline is perfect.

  • Sounds good.

  • any idea where i could get the recording of it?

  • What do you exactly want? Audio or Video? Anyway, the best source would be eMule. I got the whole Live in tokyo from eDonkey.

  • Do you know if theres a way to download it?

  • You want to download this video? From YouTube?

    It's actually possible.

  • A wonderful Christmas present... thanx belsenghost!!^^
