I think Mick is soooo much better than Pat, he's brought a much more mature style in song writing to the band, without them loosing the libertine-esque style that they need, I never realy liked Walden.

I dunno the Pat era babyshambles had a really unique sound...now they are good but they used to be something really special...and the songwriting on 'Down in Albion' is better than anything they've done since...not sure how much of that was down to Pat but just saying...

Even though the general quality of the band and the songs has gotten better and tighter since Pat left and Mik joined proper, it's just impossible to get excited about Whitnall. He's a mediocre guitarist at best, and adds nothing to the sound except a distinct amount of shite (see how off-tempo he was at the start of Delivery in 2007). Pat was an exceptional guitarist and he was exciting to listen to. I think Babyshambles would be better if he joined them again.

Definitely doesn't have the stage presence as Walden, but to say he doesn't 'add anything to the band' is a hoot. The entire dynamic has changed -- before Walden would play a very technical lead/rythme, now Witnall plays rythme while Pete plays lead when needed (he didn't play at all with Walden). They're both good players it's just that it's wrong to compare the two when they both have different roles.

Also, Witnall is more 'fitting' to the present Babyshambles. Before they got fucked up before shows and they'd play really messy and raw with that sort of punk attitude (Dead-Kennedys-ish-fuck-the-pe­rformance-let's-kick-ass approach).

They've cleaned up a bit since then and perform songs properly, even the songs on Shotter's Nation is more sincere. Witnall is a perfect analogy to the growth of the band since the beginning.

it's funny that just because babyshambles seem to have gotten themselves together at roughly the same kind of time that mik became a proper member of the band, people assume that its him that has 'saved' the band. he's only really a mediocre guitarist, and if he did sort the band out then he would have done it a lot sooner than this because he was their guitar technician for a substantial time. why can't people just consider the possibilty that pete might have actually sorted it himself?

They just reunited with Pat at a surprise show, and as he's looking alot healthier, there are several reunions that a reunion might be coming up...But it's complicated, I think, because Mick and thye band have done so much material, and they'd feel bad about kicking him out. As for having TWO lead guitarists in the band-I don't know how that would work out.
