Conservatives using the term "Democrat" party for the last few years stems from the lunatic Newt Gingrich by way of Frank Luntz. Gingrich put forth a list of terms to be used by the uniformly minded conservatives to be associated with the left because of the sounds of the words. I guess Gingrich thought that leftism could be defeated with clever advertising and polling tricks.

Much of this nonsense comes from the old "Democratic Republican" party (1792-1824) founded by Thomas Jefferson.

In that now-defunct party name, as in most English phrases, the adjective precedes the noun, hence "Democrat" received the "-ic" adjective suffix to become "Democratic."

"Republican" is both a noun and an adjective, etymologically speaking, but the noun "Democrat" needs the "-ic" to become an adjective. When modifying the noun "Party," the adjective form "Democratic" is correct.

The Republicans thrive on division and conflict. It has worked since Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy" to capitalize on white southern racism in the 60's and 70's to win elections.
