Yeah I must say I loved the studio version of Castlerigg, but they can certainly play live too. I have been following them since 1992 about. Have only seen them live about 7 times. And never since 2000. Worth checking out Troy Donocley's solo work too. I lov
greatest celtic band ever!!! the most amazing thing is when dave and troy play together and how dave matches the pipe playing very smooth and very very cool!!
I saw them play at a church in metro Philly on the Jersey side back in 1996. It was an absolutely breathtaking concert. Got to talk to the bandmembers at the end as well. Great group of people! :)
Thanks for posting! Saw them live in Va. Beach in late 90's...when Teryl was still drumming with them. Incredible concert! Sure glad that flag twirler didn't hit Troy or his Uilleann pipes...looks like they take a lot of concentration to play and I imagine it was distracting to him tho! Another tribute to IONA's professionalism! Keep rocking for Jesus!!!
I do miss Terl Bryant. Frank van Essen isn't a bad drummer either, but I definitely noticed a style change in percussion when Terl left the band to form Psalm Drummers.
@grafixrj Uilleann pipes take a tremendous amount of concentration to play - you've got a bellows under one arm to inflate the bag, the other arm is squeezing the bag (harder for the 2nd octave) and your fingers are opening and closing the holes...all at once. A lot of players simply close their eyes, as a normal practice, no matter what is happening around them. If they're open, the player's full concentration remains in the playing.
Yes, wonderful indeed, especially for us in the US who can't just fly to UK whenever Iona has a gig. Studio version of "Castlerigg" is from 2000 album 'Open Sky', and also with "Reels" on disc 4 from 2002 box set 'The River Flows'. Thanks for uploading, trouthound.

For the first time ever, I think the slower framerate of the camera is good - it makes the flags stand out more.
Great song, and then the speeding up 0.0
