1. The Fighter, Cleric and Dwarf all have shields, which can block nearly every hit in the game. You'll still get pushed around by the hits, but they don't do any damage. Initially, the button is disabled, so don't forget to enable the use of the shield. If you mash the shield button, you'll hold it up indefinitely. This is extremely useful in boss battles, like at the Dark Wizard or Wyvern battles.
2. Your special magic attack gives you a short period of invincibility. You might take damage from using it, but it'll not only guard you form possibly more damage, but deal damage to the enemy as well.
3. Ice traps are annoying, but there are a few ways to deal with them. First, if you're the Elf or Wizard, you can shoot all chests from long range and you'll be completely safe. Second, the melee fighters can also hit it JUST outside the radius of the trap if you can position yourself correctly. Third, if you do get frozen, mash the buttons and you can get out fast enough to avoid any damage completely.
4. Don't miss any chests! Some have valuable credits (continues), which increase your chance of beating the game significantly.
5. Develop your own unique strategies to use against bosses. Many are weak to the "mash the attack button while jumping like a maniac" tactic, for example. >_>
That's all I could think of, but...Have fun anyways...
When you're using a melle character, keeping the manual shield off makes it ten times harder...
Does anyone know what those rings do? You know, the ones we get when using the wizard...
