@PLANEMANGROY amen to that brother....... especially in the state competitive state of Texas..... there is no other state better than Texas for bands and football :)
I was part of this performance my sophomore year. Making all state 3 times changed my life and I viewed music differently after this point, in a better way of course. I couldn't believe the talent that I saw. I learned so much.
Guys, this really isn't any better than some other AS bands. I listened to some New York All-State recordings and IMO the woodwinds were actually cleaner than this, and the piece sounded much more challenging. All-State Bands in a lot of the larger states are absolutely phenomenal, not just texas. So chill guys. Your audition process sounds better though, I'm a trumpet player and got a "perfect score" at my ny audition, and was only an alternate cause too many players got 100s. That makes sense.
This video is still amazing and encourages me to try for All State!! Just competed and qualified for Area! Now gotta do my best there and try to get down to San Antonio for All State!!
My, what a good band! I know this was a couple of years ago, but these kids are just wonderful. Absolutely outstanding. Terrific tone from the solo clarinetist.
My university toured with this piece this year. This sounds really good, except that it's taken a bit faster than the score. Taking it at a faster tempo makes you pass over some of the good thick solos and when you listen to them at the original tempo you understand the music how it was written. You just don't get that when it's faster. But great job Texas, I miss it living there!
@PLANEMANGROY I always thought that Symphonic Bands tackle more difficult pieces because of the size of the groups, o: But I see where you angling at o:
Imma just say this: I played this with Colonel Arnold Gabriel today who helped write this piece. The guy had evey line of the thing memorized. Every measure number, accent, and note. This sounds good, but it just seems too fast. You can't really absorb some of the solos when they are played so fast lol
that's definitely not true. you have to consider that for most instruments (excluding saxophones and euphoniums), this isn't the second but the FOURTH group. I'd definitely say that the symphonic band has a completely different feel to it, and is much better. not to say that the concert band isn't really fucking good though
WOW THIS SOUNDS AMAZING! I just listen to the Florida all state band play it here on youtube and i must say ya'll are far superior to them! I could never believe I could make this band, but I strive to. I am only a freshman and I hope one year to make this band. I am already striving for that year to be this year!
@chaguirre1 I missed it by 2 chairs. :( it sucked. But i think that is pretty good considering I am a freshman. I will make it next year no exceptions lol
awwww i was in this band and it was my senior year. i wish i could keep auditioning for state. idk if id make it again but that journey was fun!! :) and i liked our performance. :)
lol last year when i tried out for region the judges had moved all of the unnatural keys one to the right(marimba), and it totally jacked with my confidence. I restarted 7 times before i finally realized what was going on :P, i got 24th over all though
@Flippinpinoy09 And unfortunately, region 5 is where i'm at. We had an amazing freshman trombone last year and he got 3rd chair in his room... but they only took two people...
@PLANEMANGROY An even greater example is my friend who made 2nd in the state last year as a junior. Her tone and articulation were one of the best in my opinion, however, she messed up in on like 3 measures, as did everyone esle because it was the more technical etude, on the last etude. she ended up getting 6th chair and not making it. Small mistakes can make a big difference between 1st and 10th even at area.
@PLANEMANGROY His exact words were "Man, if you were to go 5a you'd be dangerous." I am only a 4a school though. This past year i can honestly say that my performance at area was the worst i have ever played. I was so nervouse that my long notes on the slow peice were extreemly wavy because i was so nervouse. I got 9th this year though as a junior.
@PLANEMANGROY Yea i agree. I have made region all my years in high school ( i live in texas) and have also made Area the past 2 years( the lowest chair i got was 12th at area). I get a private lessons teacher once in a whle (only if i make area) who also happends to be the retired first chair clarinet from the cities symphonic band i live in. But i have only had about 5 lessons from him in 2 years. Anyways i go and visite him this this year and he listened to me play.
@tubaconrad practice!! focus and relax in auditions. don't let others intimidate you and keep the mentality that there's always room for improvement! ;)
how the hell do you do the clarinet squeak or whatever in 1:01-1:02? our first chair can do it well but even if i'm 2nd chair i can't do it without sounding too goofy.
Just got back from a concert where we played this tonight :) Great job, I do love this piece. One of my favorites. :) I do think the French Horns should have been louder, but that's just how I am. (I play horn, which could explain some things. lol.) Great job though! The band tone is beautiful, and I love the low brass! Kudos to the trombone solo, that's really freakin fast lol. Wonderful :) Great piece :)
wow...im freshman, and pretty good (not bragging [at least i hope]) and am DEFINETLY not good enough for this band YET. but i hope to be good enough at least by junior or senior year :D
@chaguirre1 Simple. The people who made all region are the best in the region. the people who made state are the best in the state. Im not saying that people who made region are bad but they lack the extra 5-10% that the judges in TMEA look for at Area to go to state. The judges know what they're doing when selecting the allstaters. You're audition for the all state BAND. They're looking for players who have an aptitude in musicality and maturity in their playing for the concert and solo setting
@TricoreSonata09 not necessarily true. i made the top band at state, 2010, and we had a horrible concert! that was the talk of the music people! we sucked so much that i wish i wouldve been in the second band!
i love italian rhypsody specialy the second clerinet solo if done right it makes me wanna cry and its done beautifully and i like the trombonists too they r good GO TROMBONES!!!!
im so mad at myself that i dint make allsouth west Tennesee band well i am in 8th grade i have more shots ehh??

@PLANEMANGROY They have also tried to dilute the regions to look ansd sound the same.
Once upon a time, region 5 sounded better than all the best of the other regions combined.
