Being born in '57, had I had only vague memories of early '60's rock. I eventually got to hear this once we got an oldies radio station in the '70's. A great song that hooks the listener instantly. I love the false ending, followed by that KILLER drum solo!!! A smash classic! Thanks for posting.
Amen i was 10 but loved listening at night to this great stuff on my transister and walking home from school digging all these songs that stand the test of time!
@sigridvanosch Other than the nonsense hook, here are the lyrics: "I remember when I first saw him. Something told me that I couldn't ignore him. And I've been dreamin' of him every night ever since we met
'Cause he's the kind of boy you can't forget. (He's the kind of boy you can't forget). I remember when I first kissed him. He touched my hand and then I couldn't resist him. And though he kissed me 'bout a week ago, I ain't got over it yet. (MORE)
@sigridvanosch LYRICS (continued) 'Cause he's the kind of boy you can't forget. (He's the kind of boy you can't forget). I could be so happy knowing he was mine (yeah yeah yeah) all the time. And I could make him happy, I would treat him good, yes I would. Gotta tell him that I adore him. There is nothin' that I wouldn't do for him. I won't be happy till I make him mine and a wedding day is set. 'Cause he's the kind of boy you can't forget. (He's the kind of boy you can't forget).
Went through them all and THIS IS IT! I too want to hear it as it was played. The battling "Didalidalittlits", the funky pause, harmonies and that "Blue Eyed" soulful sound. Clean, Upbeat fun on a disc! 60 and still love the R&R classics! How did we survive w/o abusing your Biotch or killing a Cop?
Yes this is the best version, and it is out there in the BRILL BUILDING CD collection (in FULL STEREO). And yes that is Ellie and Jeff - One of the biggest song writing teams in the Brill Building in NY. I also believe that Ellie did the double track, I beleive they never appeared live anywhere or on TV for that matter, at least that I am aware of.
-- By the way, who was it that decided for us that we do not like songs with good, clean words, and simpler times conveyed in them, huh? Who? (the devil?) You have to reallly look these days for anything decent... But I do not, I have already said goodbye to the media of now, the music of now, the news, I look for people who are good and honest, and music from the 1950's and up until the late 1960's really reflects this! Sorry so late 2 answer Carlos!
My rating reflects NO, not that I LIKE this video/song, but that YES, I HAVE always LIKED this song... NOT the first time I've heard it!!! Glad it is back on Youtube... For a while it was hit and miss... And sometimes you could only hear the Jellybeans... Which although I like, they don't do the song as well as The Raindrops. Thanks.
1963 Was a WONDERFUL year!! But then, so were all of the 1960's-- Wish I could say that for our present 'times'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@uboob67 I agree with you 100%; this is song is so contagiuos; since i first heard it I fell in love with it right away. and yes I agree we can't say the same of nowadays....hip hop and r&b (today's R&B) are laced with lewdness and trash
I heard this on the radio around 10 years ago. I had to have the song. I bought a cd. with this song on it. This group reminds me of gospel groups during that era.
I gave a rave review to the Jellybean's version before I heard this one, but I gotta say this one tops it. Much more upbeat and just more fun to listen to. Great song by the original artists. Thanks for posting this.
@movingon4ever According to Wikipedia, the group gave the illusion that they were a trio by having Laura Greenwich [Ellie's sister] appear as a non-singing member. Ellie evidently performed the double track harmony.
Mine God! They're WHITE! All these years and I thought they were a Black group. I mean, they do sound a lot like the Jelly Beans. In any event, still sounds great and always loved the Bo Diddly beat. 1963: My Dad let me drive his new Pontiac Tempist which was faster then the 1963 Ford Falcon 6 cylinder, owned by my buddies Dad. Thanks, Gere.
YEEEEEAWZAH! I been waiting for this one too. Never could find a good Raindrops version to compare. Sorry, Jellybean fans, but this one RRROCKS! That drummer kicks it into high gear. Thanks for the post.,futykoolz!
@maddadram1 Man, are you right that it was a fabulous summer of music -- this one, "Then He Kissed Me" and "One Fine Day" and "Hey Girl" and "Denise" and "Easier Said Than Done" and "Surf City" and "Pride and Joy" and "Fingertips" and "So Much In Love" -- cool instrumentals like "Wipe Out" and Lonnie Mack's version of "Memphis" -- even "Sukiyaki" -- those just off the top of my head. I always thought it was a special time for music.
Been waiting for this ....THE version .... for some time ! Nothing against the Jellybeans or Little Frankie, but there is nothing like the original !!
I've been looking for this song for awhile. I found it! Thanks.

Yes, the Raindrops included Ellie and Jeff Barry, but who is/was the third member?
The photos show a second female, but her name doesn't surface.

@movingon4ever That has been one of R n R's greatest mysteries,
who was the 3rd member and who is the 2nd female.
Many people, refer to the 'single gunmen' theory, BUT, I'm
not one of those. As, most people familar with the families
involved, know that, there was a whole lotta 'shit going
down'.

The AM station in Jacksonville that summer (the mighty 690) must have missed
this one - I'm glad that Sirius radio introduced me to it, a cool tune!
