  • Michelangelo didn't have anything to do with moving the statue to its final position in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. The "cage" rested on 14 greased poles (see "A Florentine Diary" Lucca Landinelli), not steel wheels. More important, the statue was placed on a platform about 5 ft high begging the question: "How did they lift a 6 ton statue up in the air and over onto the platform?
