Question: Maybe I'm missing something but why didn't they swing the boom 180 degrees, raise the tail end to level position using the boom and bucket and then with a little assist with the hydraulics use the boom to push alittle, they could have traveled right on across???
the machine is set up to only crawl on flat or close to flat ground. the travel controls are on the left side down beside the seat so to work them takes your left hand. if there would have been 2 people in the cab it may have been able to be done but that is agaisnt regulations to have more than one person in the cab during crawling operations.
wouldnt it have been easier to build a less steep ramp for it to climb? Thats the only trouble with grouser-less tracks fitted to the larger demags and the larger O&Ks less grip
I said the same thing but then I noticed that there is the poles for the powerline on one side and the lines where to low to swing around. you can see the bucket is working to get the pull needed. plus you want you weight on the frount so it will drag the mats under. then we did bring the 11 off the hill to give the extra power. Demag controls are strang the propel contriols are like behind the seat so you cant do much with the bucket while on the move.
Interesting, I would have thought the controls for travel would be pedal controls. I understand keeping the weight up front, and the mats. I dont see the power lines/poles in the video, so I assume its just a road without utilities, but given that they removed the ROPS, I could only assume it was to clear power lines or something. Doesnt look like having the bucket down across the road was helping all that much. Slick, like mud.
This is in Ohio owned by Kimble clay adn limestone out of Sugercreek. This machine is in Stonecreek wich is over the hill from Sugercreek. Kimble owns most of stonecreek, he also does the waste dump for J&J refuse. there is a thin seam of coal here but they going after it anyway. This machine is down most of the time, It is over 16yrs. This is the biggest trackhoe in Ohio. there is a shovel Liebher 994 shovel in Cadiz Ohio. check out my other Video.

That's a real old H285! You can tell by the crawler pads which were the same type the H241 had.

Why not just rotate and 'push' from behind?

Or why not put the bucket down and just see if it can pull the unit ahead.
