I first saw Dana singing at age 13 or 14 at our Christmas staff party in Standard Bank of S.A.Ltd., Benoni Branch,Gauteng.South Africa in 1961 or 1962 few years before she began her recording career.
This is a fantastic soul sound. I'm sure that in 1977, I and many others like me had no concept that this song was sung by a white woman. To me, this song knocks the pants off Frank Wilson. But that is my opinion and it would all be very boring if we all liked the same stuff. This song is also sang by Simon and Garfunkel. Can anyone tell me. Did Paul Simon write it? I think he did
@micytay a male voice says "you dont begin ti comprehend" i believe that is Paul Simons voice ... as her discography reads that this song was recorded in 1967 with Paul Simon
@micytay reading her discography this record is down as recorded in 1967 (with Paul Simon) im assuming he speaks the bit YOU DONT BEGIN TO COMPREHEND near the beginning...
@stompietheowl Yeah, if this was simply sung by a black woman, then they'd never mention it. I mean why do they question Don Ray, Nancy Ames but not Barbara McNair's adult-contemporary pop "You're Gonna Love My Baby." I loves it all...And Frank Wilson is AWESOME. Love that song! ENERGY, ENERGY!
when this sound came on at wigan it was hit the floor big time, fantastic dance record and awesome sound.call it pop, call it soul.but this was northern soul at its very best.
Soz but it always reminds me of a Bad downer at a Kettering Easter Dayer after 2 niters at the Casino and Sammanthas! Just aload of peeps dancing in circles ~ this and The Poppies ~ and it just stuck in my head ;D
fantastic vocal, strings, horns, a brilliant northern classic

Some people would descibe this as a pop tune...for me it was always white soul with atmosphere drama advice. Nice song thanks
