I made it to round three. The round right before you see Paula, Simon, and Randy. The judges were tough. There was 14000 people and then it was cut to 300. I was one of the 300! It was VERY tough!

you should have added former american idols as well. not just the winners, but anyone who has been on american idol and was well known and had a record. the judges will just compare you to another idol, and that's not good (whether you were good or not).

Good point about the song selection. I auditioned the third season and I can't tell you how many girls were singing the same boring and unoriginal songs. Go out on a limb and showcase your talent so they remember it. I personally went with Susan Tedeschi, love her stuff. Instead of going out to find talent they ask people who are willing to give up all their artistic control to come to them, to sing generic songs in an attempt to be popular. Singer/songwriters need not apply. They aren't looking for talent, they're looking for product - This is made quite apparent by Simon's remarks.

That or work hard to get to hollywood untelevised and go under your choice of Music Label... only because most of the people are forced to sing Pop music when alot of people love metal and rap ....if you talk to anyone in the music dept, be sure to tell people this, THEN ID ACTUALLY WATCH lol ... adios
Aww hell, I auditioned almost 4 years ago and I was pondering between two songs to sing and I picked the older one! This guy confirmed what I suspected: I should've gone with the Dido song instead of Queen. :(
Btw, I didn't actually know there were two cuts before the judges, the singers are usually so bad that it doesn't look like anyone with functioning ears would've let them through the first two cuts. Things you learn before your brains fall out. :)

Just got back from Omaha auditions. Guy dressed as a cow made it through but they were tough on the serious singers. Only about 1 in 400 moved on.
Standing in line sucked! No chairs allowed!
Some judging tables didn't let anyone through. In Omaha it was costumes or ten gallon hats.
My friend didn't make it but the judges told him he had the right look and sound but wrong venue and to go to the Atlanta auditions.

You should definitely keep trying to audition though! I really think you'll make it, you are a fantastic singer! OH and thanks for tips ;) I was thinking about auditioning, although I'm almost 100% sure I can't sing well at all lol We'll see! I might be on there as one of those people who thinks they are good, but are really really really awful.

Do you remember the girl they called "The Bulgarian Subwhoofer?" I can't remember what season she was on but wow. My best friend and I were going to go to the next Chicago auditions and sing Aint no mountain high enough like her..just to say we did it but then we lost interest lol

Ah yes, the pretty puppets that sing show. When this show popped up I knew this was the industry's last gasp. Instead of going out to find talent they ask people who are willing to give up all their artistic control to come to them, to sing generic songs in an attempt to be popular. Singer/songwriters need not apply. They aren't looking for talent, they're looking for product - This is made quite apparent by Simon's remarks.

The 'don't do a diva's song' thing isn't strickly true. Seach for Leona Lewis who won the UK's X-Factor. You'll see exactly what I mean. Very, very good advice all the same though.

american idol. . sell your soul ;), jump through hoops, bend over backwards and kiss your own a**. I like to watch, but I dont want to be on it. Id rather make it the old fashioned way. Besides, if you did go on american idol you'd have to live the rest of your life with it tacked on to your image. I dont disrespect the folks that do go on the show, its just that, for me, I'd rather have more freedom.

That or work hard to get to hollywood untelevised and go under your choice of Music Label... only because most of the people are forced to sing Pop music when alot of people love metal and rap ....if you talk to anyone in the music dept, be sure to tell people this, THEN ID ACTUALLY WATCH lol ... adios

Aww hell, I auditioned almost 4 years ago and I was pondering between two songs to sing and I picked the older one! This guy confirmed what I suspected: I should've gone with the Dido song instead of Queen. :(
Btw, I didn't actually know there were two cuts before the judges, the singers are usually so bad that it doesn't look like anyone with functioning ears would've let them through the first two cuts. Things you learn before your brains fall out. :)
