as Jimi Hendrix was "God Of Guitar", Alex Hurricane Higgins" was "the God of Snooker" a personality like him comes once in generations, live a typical and peculiar life but what they achieve can never be matched and they acts become a milestone for others and a challange to achieve. after Alex now there is no sign of good old snooker. players of present do not even wear bowties. the only player who can stand in the class of Joe Davis, Ray Reardon and John Spencer is none other than Alex Higgins
Your a legend Alex and a genius because you won the world championship twice without being a Steve Davis clone in terms of technique but you shouldn't have been so full of yourself. You were an outstanding entertainer because you were a great potter and people love to route for the underdog. But facts are facts. Ray Readon was the greatest of 70's snooker, Davis the 80's, Hendry the 90's+,and O'Sullivan/John Higgins the best after that. The greatest players win the most titles and you didn't . RIP.
This breaks my heart. Apparently he was only six stone when he died. He killed himself with booze and cigs over time. Its amazing the damage it did to his body.
bobbydylanio, I am sorry to hear your mother has taken up with your sister's boyfriend. My God what was she thinking about, my God he is only 19. Your father is a good man, but he did not need to come and find your mum dressed in stockings and suspenders posing for her young lover.
Stay well mate and so sorry to hear about all this. It must be a mid life think with her. Have you any pictures of her in those stockings ?
Cooperpot. As an Irish republican I found Higgins to be a bigoted protestant Ulsterman who supported loyalists in their deeds to remove the national population from the North of Ireland. I'm in the North, so better qualified than you to see it.
Alex Higgins hasn't had contact with his daughter thoughout her life, today she deserved an Oscar for her "moment of fame"
He was a nasty piece of work, he came from an area of Belfast called the Sandy Row, famous for murdering catholics, you can take the man out of Sandy Row, But you can't take Sandy Row out of the man.
@anlorgain U sound like one of those nuts who'd call alex a Brit instead of a paddy! I'm so glad thet we don't have such issues here because as a catholic I'd have these same problems with my fellow English people!
alex to me was the most entertaining snooker player to ever hold a cue, will never be forgotten,a legend, that word gets used to often these days but alex was.RIP ALEX HIGGINS.
The best player to ever pick up a cue. A very sad day not only for snooker, but for sport on a whole. A great who shall never be forgot. A master we can only aspire to.
Rest in peace, Alex. A true sportsman and legend who will be long remembered. On Snooker's behalf, I'd like to thank you for all that you brought to the sport.
he needs teeth implants because he has to eat baby food and has been surviving on it for years. his friends are trying to raise the money for him to get these implants and then hopefully he can start to put on some weight and build up more strength. good luck anyway alex x
LEGEND IS ALEX NO OTHER WORDS and may his god bless him and protect him HE IS A LEGEND TO SNOOKER there is never going to be a player like ALEX HIGGINS i love you SANDY
@celticfc735 I cried my eyes out when I saw this, oh the emotion I used to get watching him, hairs on the back of my neck all stood up. Most entertaining sportsman of all time, true genius, and a genuine, lovely man.
Iv heard Alex only has days to live. Alex you was the best thing to ever happen to snooker. No angel but he made the game so exciting and brought out so mnay players of today
I love the depressing music they play throughout this interview, its like they're gearing up for the guys death or something, which judging from his appearance probably isn't that far away
It is really sad to see a legend like Alex Higgins in a state like this. It is unfortunate that he brought this on himself. Well, the cancer he cannot help but all the drinking, the controversies, the unstable performances. Still, perhaps that is why we all love the guy. I am not old enough to have experienced his glory days live, but what a talent, what a personality, simply: what a legend!
ALEX is a star he fell victim to alcohol and his lifestyle like a lot of other sporting stars i rather watch Alex than Ronnie any day Ronnie dosnt respect the game or his opponents one bit
alex higgins is a legend i have met him and played him in a small exhibition just over a hyear ago and he can still play mint now, and it is possible ronnie managed a 147 in 5 mins so 118 in 2 mins is possible
It is possible to do this fantastic break in that time as ALEX has proven , also i watched Tony Drago Knock in a 113 Break in 2mins 10 a few weeks ago in qulifiers in Pontins and after wards i said to him "do you realise you done a 113 in 2mins 10?" he joked back "did i ? oh i'm getting slow !" so Jim Maybe your decent standard is actually quite shit !!! if you were a "DECENT STANDARD" you would know something about snooker .... GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALEX - A TRUE LEGEND
I have been playing snooker to a decent standard for 28 years and i can tell you you could not get 118 break in 2 min its impossible watch the video of the amateur clearing the table he was running and playing much quicker than higgins used to play and i looked at the the table at 2 minutes he had potted 8 reds and the break was 78 and this was on the line up read his bio he is a prick who blames everyone else for his problems and shits on all who try and help and everyone idolises him

Alex was thegreatest talent, like he said himself, and like his adversaries have confirmed.
Pure, raw genius like his is so rare. Let's celebrate it.
