  • @fionaly350 can u pleeeeeese tell me how to get in???

  • I miss the whacky shack soooo much its unreal...

  • if they fixed up the Whacky Shack and it's colourful cast of characters with all new paint, parts etc and the place had hallways wide enough for wheelchairs to ride through I'd go there and sit there eating my lunch watching the Rat try and grab it from me.

  • wow, this brings back so many memories from my childhood. i hate that joyland is now in a state of decay. such a shame.

  • My boyfriend has snuck into Joyland multiple times. One night, him and his friend snuck in and decided to go into the Wacky Shack, and when they were in there, they walked in on a satanic worship. So after hearing that, I'm kinda scared to go in Joyland.

  • I loved this ride i went on it my first time when i was 7 and then i said to my mother one day(may she rest in peace) can we go to joyland i wanna she the waky shack she said no honey its shut down i cried my eyes out :( im 11 now and i really wanna go back Heyyyyyyyy speaking of it do any of u remeaber the scary clown that played the piano XD !!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  • It's funny how the stairs on the way up used to be black light lit, not dark. You could watch the fake ceiling crack. The spider was illuminated. The train sound room had strobes and tinfoil, I'm sure there's more. Then lights would go out I guess and it became just a dark ride or whatever. And no more train sound.

  • it caught fire didnt it

  • I well remember this ride from childhood. Remember the woman's leg sticking out of the top? ;) Just checked out your Joyland website, too....It's really strange seeing it like this. I still have dreams about it sometimes...remember my dad and I stuck on top of the Ferris wheel in the rain in the 70s...Anyway, thanks so much for posting these.

  • Somebody in the dark ride community better save this before it's too late!! Bill Tracy dark rides are rare so as it is!! There's only 9 or 10 left. Even if it has to be dismantled and moved to another park. Bell's Amusement Park in Tulsa, OK was evicted and the rides were dismantled including Phantasmagoria. The stuff for it is in storage. The park was supposed to be rebuilt, including a new Phantasmagoria. The Haunted Castle at Miracle Strip Park, Panama City Beach, FL was saved and rebuilt.

  • awww it does bring back memories thats where i got my first kiss...lol

  • thanks for the upload brings back memories

  • i wish it was still open

  • omgomgomg soooo many memories!! :( only memories though

  • the sign that says HANDS UP at the top of the rollercoaster was stolen!

  • @Nediac98 :'(

  • go to Pennsylvania to ride a near identical version at Waldameer park

  • i actually went to one of those in like 2000-2002, i dont really remember but that was the last time I have been there, when i was 7. Truth is this person that I go to church with knew the guy that sued JoyLand, his daughter wasnt wearing a belt or safety on the ferriswheel or something like that, and he was one to complain and so was his whole family. what a small world..-OF WHICH SCREWED UP MY CHANCES OF GOING TO JOYLAND AND IT EVER OPENING AGAIN!! >:L

  • Is it still there even though it closed? If it opened in 1974, then it opened the year I was born as I was born Jan 14, 1974. Bill Tracy the builder of this ride and others like at Dorney Park and Wildwood, NJ (all gone), Ocean City, MD and Waldameer, Erie, PA (still operating) passed away August, 1974 so this was one of his final projects. I rode and saw several Bill Tracy dark rides over the years, in the early 80's at Dorney Park & Hunt's Pier they had a Whacky Shack. Rode OC MD Haunted House

  • It's still there. Rotting away. It won't be for much longer.

  • @goaliefight ikr i will miss it

    '

  • Yes, I remeber the Nelson's saying that this was Tracey's last installation.

  • @rwk360 yes, it is still there. i just walked through it yesterday.

  • @rwk360 I worked there as a ride operator the first year the ride was open -1974.

It's in terrible shape now and the park is closed. According to the Bill Tracy website this was his last known project.

  • Yeah...we Wichitans are very proud bout that there coaster.

  • joy land is a death trap to bad they closed it down

  • omgggggg i misss joyland

  • The last time i went on this shortly before the park closed, the ride broke down while me and my little brother were on it. We crashed into a stalled car in front of us and sparks were shooting from the bottom of it. then we were stuck. A few minutes later my sister and a friend who were in the car behind us crashed into us with the same result. we were stranded for about 10 minutes before the lights flipped on and maintinence came to evacuate us. It was fun!

  • is there a topless witch before i watch

  • I nearly shit myself on this

  • The red spider (that you can't see in the video), right before you came out of the doors on the top level, always scared the SHIT out of me. Lol I only ever rode it twice with my eyes open.

  • My cousin went there for a week and when he was in the wacky shack, he got out of the kart in the room with the lights all over the place and tore the stuff from the walls.

  • I was a ride operator in 1974 when this ride was brand new and occasionally I would be assigned to stand behind the door in the room with the lights all over the place and report people who got out of the karts and tore the stuff from the walls!!

  • ah yes, the tin foil-strobe light- seizure room. EXCELLENT!

  • As time went by lots of the light / bells whistles faided but the memories will always be with each and everyone of us . The wacky shack scared the crap out of me when i was a kid ..

  • Did Joyland close? I miss that place alot, i was always scared of that clown that played the organ when you walked it.

  • haha. i rememer one time when i was lik 6 i whent on that and it scared the crap outa me.

    lmao

  • i rode this when i was about 10, my family took a trip to joyland and my mom told me all these stories about it from when she was a girl and about the wacky shack, i thought it would be wacky to me, nope, just scared the living daylights outta me! i hated her the whole day. but i will never forget it, thanks for posting this

  • I wouldnt want to go in there now in fear of it falling apart....

  • It wasn't that shitty of a place.

  • wow, I have thought about this place for almost 20 years since i moved from wichita. you just made my day by seeing this. i was only eight years old but i remember all of it. I thought the doors used to glow at the begining of the ride.

  • man i miss this place

  • LOL!! WOW!! Brings back major memories. I can already smell the pee and the spray paint fresh in there. :P

  • Don't forget the over polluted stench of mentral from the port-a-johns

  • Nice. favorited.
