this was a early episode when there writers where still developing the personalities of the characters. so many of the things we the fans have come to love about them wont be shown here. think of how different the cast of friends was when comparing the first few and last few seasons. the characters grow overtime. still funny though...

The first 6 or 7 episodes of the show were filmed before the infamous writer's strike happened. During the strike, the producers/writers used that time to adjust the characters a bit, fine tuning them if you will. You will notice a definite difference in Sheldon from the first few episodes versus the rest of the show. The knock is one of the many things that came later.
