Defence to attack in a snap! Love watching Viera goals because they often involved other team members. Although there were some fantastic solo efforts, you really get the sense of 'team spirit' with him. Great video. I almost forgot how ruthless we used to be.
Great video. Vieira was such an awesome player, a genuinely great allround midfielder. He could do it all. I know he was past it when he left, but I always missed him. One of my heroes.
would of liked to have seen some of his unreal tackling on there but still a good player.. I'm a Liverpool fan and him and Steven Gerrard would be in the middle of the park all day for an all time Premier League 11
its gud to see that even after 2yrs the person who post this vid still replies to comments ur grate man gud vid as well i miss the hold arsenal squad..
Patrick is my most admired player ever, but i know you guys are saying that he's a defensive midfield, but in this video he seems more attacking, not like a kaka or zidane, but he was forward alot. How did Patrick do this, like play defensive midfield, but score many goals, like isn't he out of position if he's forward?
@tombstone569 He wasn't a defensive midfielder, more like box-to-box centre midfielder. In fact he played nearly all of his career with a defensive midfielder supporting him from behind (Petit, Gilberto, even Edu who was a deep-lying passer). However he had very good defensive skills and could drop back to play defensive midfielder alongside his partner, but never by himself.
@tombstone569 Also as Arsenal employed the 'Total Football' tactic it meant that he could play well almost anywhere on the pitch that he happened to be.
Arsenal these days doesn't seem to have the forward momentum they used to. They lack someone driving them forward - Wilshere and fabregas are good but they don't have the team moving with them - they wait around instead of making the runs that Vieira could have picked up on, and Wilshere and Fabregas could too.
you will never see another player like patrick viera ever again. he was an absolute animal but also had the silky skills. always makes me laugh when people mention roy keane, keane did not even come close to viera. viera was so superior in every department that it is a joke to even compare them.
people need to stop bringing roy keane into discussion. Viera was the best DM back in his days. keane was very good but his football was ugly just like his personality.
these days, its hard to find players like: berkham, ronaldo, viera, zico, pele, ruud vanistelrooy, zidane, figo etc :(((((( just a bunch of pussys who only play football for money: rooney, c ronaldo, tevez, adebayor etc
@michaefa minus the fact that those two absolutely HATE each other? And there is no way any self-respecting Arsenal or Manchester United fan would hope for such a pairing. As it were, though, I imagine two people of their talents together would be a sick tandem.
@seanboweny Are you saying that the video does not show Vieira's skill, or class? I would oppose that, albeit there is little of his tackling, but considering how limited a footage there must be for such things, I think the video is marvelous.
@seanboweny This video shows exactly what he was about. box to box midfield general. His attacking play was just as good as his defensive duties if not better . perfect video to show his playmaking and drive that he had.
@seanboweny I don't agree that vieira was specifically a defensive mid, he was more of a box-to-box midfielder. I think this is a good video. one of the best players to ever play in the prem!
this song reminds me of highbury when the teams were walkin out il never forget the utd games with vieira and keane bein at the ground wen them 2 exploded was brilliant
@seanboweny Because this is the only footage of him I could find. Unless someone has access to old archive footage, noone is going to be able to make a video of his defensive plays.
Maybe one day I'll get a job at Sky and steal all their old tapes, but until then this is the best I can do ;)
Proof at 2:30 he cant finish one on one. I never seen Viera as a GREAT "legend, Myth etc" he was a midfield playmaker yes. but didnt score many goals andi can remember him being a dirty player. Personally the legend/s are bergkamp, Henry and maybe even pires at a long shot.
We miss him so much. Now we don´t have any strength or true character on the midfield: it´s all about kids letting big men crush them. We used to be so superior, so much better than Chelsea... and now...
definitely he is a cm, if he had been a dm he wouldn't have been so often near opponent's goal. Just look at Song or Denilson. They are examples of dms.
Great video buddy, brillaint memories of how we were such a formidable force in the early 2000's. Looking forward to seeing Vieira back in the Prem, wouldn't have at all minded him coming back to us Gooners one bit!
Thanks dude. We were definitely much better counterattacking back then. We've started to rediscover it a bit this season, Diaby in particular is brilliant at it.
incredibly complete player. nobody could stride the midfield as beautiful as vieira.. it always makes me smile when I watch the invincibles, nothing compares to watching this team play. too bad all good things come to an end :(
Nossa o Vieira jogava muito, é uma pena que ele tenha sofrido com contusões nos últimos anos, mesmo com 33 anos se ele tiver uma sequência de jogos fara grandes jogos pela inter e pela seleção francesa.
theres never gonna b a better team than the invincibles a perfect team that we didnt spend 100s of millions to get like real madrid and man city are trying to do but it aint going to work viera woah viera woah

Nice video! I'm just wondering whether vieira's still got it in him though? I heard he had a really bad season last season, flooded with injuries etc. Anyone got video links of him playing in 2008/09 season?
