I am a 31 year old man who first heard this song in a drugged drunk stupor an totally fell in love with it. That was was several years ago i have since got married "and settled down" but am now in love with something else but this song remains a constant. I think the world is a beter place with it in it.
These guys are fooking ace !!..does anyone know what this songs about ? It sounds like a great song to get wasted to on a lazy sunday afternoon anyway.
Love the group, love the album, love the song, do not love the boring artsy- fartsy black and white video. also, do not love the way they castrated the song here. It's a different vocal track, too. "Lost Souls" is definitely one of the best albums of this young century so far. Nothing Doves has done since compares.
This song always brings a smile to my face, no matter my mood, timeless classic at almost ten years old as well. Thanks to Guy Garvey for playing it on XFM a few years back
They did indeed play this at Glastonbury a week ago- completely blew me away & sent shivers down my spine as the entire crowd sang along- very emotional moment!
it say it all about our music society if this band has been around since 1985 and not really in the music spotlight and afucking useless band like oasis can come through and take the glory !! wake up fucking people
I thank Oasis for first introducing me to this band - I saw them supporting them at Wembley and ever since that day I have held Doves in much higher regard than Oasis...
Love Doves and thought they were ace in Manchester last Sunday but to be honest I was absolutely gutted they didnt play this. Its probably one of my favorite tunes of all time and certainly my favorite Doves tune. Anyone know why they didnt play it??

Doves are my favorite band of the past decade but I still think this is the most overrated song people praise. I actually dislike it and that is only one of less than a handful of their songs. What is so special about it? Get over Lost souls!!! 5, maybe 6 songs blow this song away on that record. Oh I almost forgot.... JMHO
How can Britain produce so much amazing music ? Look at Doves, Elbow, I am Kloot all from Manchester, such an obvious fertile ground for beautiful poetry, and music. Let's not even mention, the roses, happy mondays, smiths, oasis (ok not my cup of tea). I love the doves and they've got a knew album coming out soon, yipeeeee.
You forgot to mention 'James'...but then, they came from Yorkshire in England...or at least, Tim Booth did.....I like Latin music, we just don't get much of it over here :(
I agree , what is it about Manchester ? not forgetting , The Buzzcocks, Magazine, Joy division, New order,James, have to agree with you about oasis, they do nothing for me either.
Hmmm...I agree that Manchester has a rich history for producing bands, but I think that you will find that Tim Booth - the songwriter and front man from 'James' - is a Yorkshireman...born and bred in Harrogate, and a proud Leeds United fan...:)
I've just been going through my CD Collection and have put on Lost Souls and listened to this song for the first time in years.... utterly awesome song, still sends shivers up my back even now. Can't wait for album NO: 4.
This is a freeing, cleansing song. I hope that makes sense. >_<
