I would either lose two lives here, or get through unscathed, it seems. This is by far the hardest part of the game, in my mind. Get by this, I was home free!

loved this game when I was a teenager. you don't use the elbow hit much, it was my favoured technique against the "big boys". I neverd tackled the final stage like you did, just had to endure the gang leader and his M16 shooting at you. Bst thng was playing 2P and if you made it to the end you had to bit your mate

The arcade games had to be fun so people could play with them again and again and again. This was their main concern. But today there is no more mentality for the game designers as back then. Today the main goal of the game is to be pretty on graphics so people will buy it and after that it will be finished quickly and no more replay. Very few games today are worth to be replayed and there is no more games today like double dragon which could be replayed countless times.

My friends thought it was silly that I would just elbow smash the enemies all the time. Heck, that's the quick way to get rid of them, and get the most points! I LOVED making the Abobos fall into the pits by elbow smashing them into the pits!
I loved the ending theme, because you could sing God Bless the USA to it. Sing it to yourself at 9:35: "Oh God Bless the, God Bless, God Bless the USA!!"
@TheCastellan well the bg at the third level was gray and the rock was gray. SO my guess is that due to the fact that the bg changed color, the rock has to match the color of the bg. So it went to golden brown cuz of the last level being brown

The Movie was A Pile of Crap no wonder Alyssa Milano is A Fallen Former Child Star, and has barely landing roles as is; she's cool as hell but has made many bad Choices like Dating JT...Scott Wolf well who the Hell is he? Mark Damascos he dissappeared, and Robert Patrick has survived them all with his Career....I agree with all that you said, but Final Fight has A Better Storyline however Double Dragon was the Exact Same basis; I found out Years later as the Shadow Gang was A Threat 2 the City.

@darwehewuli dipsh**, this IS the original. in THIS version if you play on 2 player at the end the 2 players fight for the girl and it doesn't matter who wins. in the Nintendo version that came a year LATER, they didn't have the technology to recreate the 2-player mode so they changed the story so Jimmy was the bad guy. Jimmy's not the bad guy in any other version, they just screwed up in the NES version.

I like the nes version but I prefer the arcade version of the first Double Dragon since it has 2 player mode and you don't waste time getting experiece.
When it comes to Double Dragon 2 I prefer the NES version to the arcade since the arcade version was practically the same as the first with no real improvements. The NES version was really a better game and different/improved from the first. Plus the NES version didn't end on such a down note as the arcade version did.
Great playing, Santora. THESE are what PUNCHES are SUPPOSED to sound like!! I can't recall any current game that has tooth-crunching hit sounds like this. Even current fighting games like Tekken don't have great hitting sounds. This is classic all the way.
You did a masteful job of exploiting the AI of the game. When I go back and play games I couldn't beat when I was a kid, I usually can by using the this general strategy. It's funny because I always thought games like this were fun, but cheap in the sense that they throw so many guys at sometimes. But if you exploit the AI the games a sinch.
This is what I love about this website, YouTube. You can watch alot of stuff that'll bring back some good memories. Thanks for having Double Dragon on YouTube.
Finally, once this glitch occurs, the only real way I've found to end the game, is to have one player volunteer to walk off the edge (suicide) and the remaining player gets the ending.
I haven't tested to see what happens if BOTH players walk off the edge at the same time (guessing either it will freeze/reset or the first one to continue will win, though if so I wonder what happens if they both continue at the exact same time?).

@darwehewuli dipsh**, this IS the original. in THIS version if you play on 2 player at the end the 2 players fight for the girl and it doesn't matter who wins. in the Nintendo version that came a year LATER, they didn't have the technology to recreate the 2-player mode so they changed the story so Jimmy was the bad guy. Jimmy's not the bad guy in any other version, they just screwed up in the NES version.

@Bw207 Well it's called the game, ok? THE GAME! The game has to be fun. And this game was hell of a fun. Today when i buy a game for Xbox 360 and after i finish it i get bored. I can not finish it again. That's the difference with games today and games back then. Today everything is about the "great" story and fine graphics but the fun is all out of it.

I used to do that. Chuck em off cliffs, down holes, off the bridge, but you can get more points up if you make em stay and take a battering.
I liked the balcony trick at the end. Never seen that done before.

I like the nes version but I prefer the arcade version of the first Double Dragon since it has 2 player mode and you don't waste time getting experiece.
When it comes to Double Dragon 2 I prefer the NES version to the arcade since the arcade version was practically the same as the first with no real improvements. The NES version was really a better game and different/improved from the first. Plus the NES version didn't end on such a down note as the arcade version did.

Great playing, Santora. THESE are what PUNCHES are SUPPOSED to sound like!! I can't recall any current game that has tooth-crunching hit sounds like this. Even current fighting games like Tekken don't have great hitting sounds. This is classic all the way.

You did a masteful job of exploiting the AI of the game. When I go back and play games I couldn't beat when I was a kid, I usually can by using the this general strategy. It's funny because I always thought games like this were fun, but cheap in the sense that they throw so many guys at sometimes. But if you exploit the AI the games a sinch.

Finally, once this glitch occurs, the only real way I've found to end the game, is to have one player volunteer to walk off the edge (suicide) and the remaining player gets the ending.
I haven't tested to see what happens if BOTH players walk off the edge at the same time (guessing either it will freeze/reset or the first one to continue will win, though if so I wonder what happens if they both continue at the exact same time?).
