  • You know an engine is loud when is has people covering their ears at idle.

  • It sounds like a chain saw lol

  • it's sounds a little nervous.

  • propably the most brutal race car motor we've seen until now

  • 1600HP... damn!

  • @ChuckNorrisOfF1 yeah, for a v6

  • The guy in red is such a boss!

  • blackknife1

No driver in f1 will be able to win in a car like the the williams or lotus. Just look at michael schumacher, one of the best drivers of all time and he cant win in a mercedes.

  • Last sunday I' ve seen a real Benetton V12 showing off at Circuit Zandvoort and it was already really loud at 100 meters distance :P So this must be incredible ear popping loud! :D

  • @knightwolf200612 Well a Benetton v12 cant be possible! it must be a Benetton v10 !

Probaly seen at the Boss GP?

  • Must be a really poor mic on this camera, coz I think it doesnt sound very good at all :( On idle the exhaust note reminded me of an old 1980's Ford Fiesta :P

  • 1:52 love how the dudes are like " I dont need to cover my ears" , then when he revs the engine up, they all put their hands on their ears at the same time

  • @mouloudo Yea I was checking them the whole video :P

  • @1:22 it Sounds like a VICTA 2 stroke lawnmower. I don't care how much power the FIA allows builders to extract from their engines... F1 will never be the same once 4 cyl turbos come in. It can only get more conservative (and boring) from here on in.

How much power can a turbocharged 1.6 liter engine limited to 12000 RPM make?

  • @scrfce123 As much as the old ones from the 1980's, 1500 HP. They ran at around 12K rpm as well.

  • @alxcsb

Fuel and intake limitations will stop the boost levels getting that high.

  • @MrGospelMan Yeah, probably so, but the cars will have enough power. I'm worried about this crap, one team winning it all. It's boring regardless of the type of engine and power. I'd rather see 500HP cars lump around with different outcomes than see Vettel murder it like Schumacher did in the day. What is it with these Germans anyway?

  • @alxcsb I couldn't have said it better! Put Vettel in a Williams, or a Lotus, and he's not winning many races

  • I've only been to one GP, F1 Monza 2005, and can say from experience that an F1 engine on TV is nothing like the bodily, visceral experience of being near the thing. Its a sound that you just feel as well as hear, like its inescapable. Without ear defenders it feels like someone jamming a screwdriver in your ears, and even with them in you can be hard pressed to figure out if the earplugs are actually working :D

  • Bally, Yes they were great years , but the difference this time is they are going to be babied to 600 HP. Plus another 150 from Kers for all of 7 secs a lap or whatever it is. All up, LESS than what we have now! Its a joke. If they were going to let them rev more and hit 900 HP plus, Id be excited! But there not, and Im sad, its not good for F1. Jesus, F2 wont be far off em at all.

  • @MrTimoski

I bet we will see at least 800hp very quickly. You see the new rules finally gives the engineers free hands to come up with truly novel and innovative ways to use the kinetic energy or whatever to coax even more power.

Many people believed the new 2,4 litre V8's were going to be much slower than the 3,0 litre V10's. The next season the difference was neglible, and on some tracks they even went faster after 2-3 seasons.

Cosworth has revolutionary new ideas in the pipeline already..

  • @MrTimoski

Mark my word. With the new high-tech formula we will see something similar to the Group C endurance era in which the trick was to coax as much power using as little fuel as possible. This is one of the main reasons Porsche dominated so long with their 956 and 962 racers.

Nothing can stop development, and I bet in very short time they will be as fast if not even faster than they are now.

  • this sounds EXACTLY, I mean exactly LIKE A LAWNMOWER! wtf? So sad F1 has come to this. Id cop it if they werent limited to 12000rpm and 600 HP, but they WILL BE! Absolute complete joke. One fan who is rapidly losing interest right here.

  • @MrTimoski u realise this car is like 20 years old, its a turbo so cant be a new car lol. They were the best years of F1!

  • Its better than the current V8s aka 'mosquitos'

  • @Emiins Thats only on tv have you ever actually been to a F1 race. TV cannot do 18000 rpm justice you have to experience it in person. The sound so is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the future of f1 AWESOME,,,

  • If this is the future of f1 i am actually going to cry

  • aff..

  • If F1 sounds like this, I'm gona cry..

  • sounds totally crap, we really need v8s in F1.

  • @gs1702 Today's F1 v8's don't sound much better in my opinion.

  • @KINGOSWALD I partially agree with you, the V10s were the absolute nuts. But to me this sounds like a Metro with no exhaust.

  • THE SOUND IS FUCKIN AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 CILINDER TURBOCHARGED ENGINES !!!!!!!!!! THE SOUND OF THE ENGINE WARMING AND THE VARIATIONS BY THE CAMSHAFT IS INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmm, If F1 goes to 4-cylinder turbo engines in 2013 like everyone's speculating, I wonder if they'll sound like this...

  • yay!...

  • WOW and inline-4 engine.

  • sounds like my bike

  • @mad4it028 - What kind of bike?

  • @cleanmachine08 98 yamaha r1

  • @mad4it028

Yes, because as you can see at 0:05 this Benetton was drive by Gerhard Berger, so this the car that ran in 1986 and was powered by a BMW inline-4 Turbo Engine.

    I love this sound... :)
