  • C'mon!! really?

    This is a good performance!

Is not like if S. H. kicked out Fish of Marillion...

    Never was a valid argument.

And this is one of my fav Marillion songs...

  • Love both, Fish and Hogharts. Fish sings it with more anger in his voice, H is softer and more sensous.

  • Great poetry. Thanks!

  • I've always preferred how Hogarth presents this over Fish.

  • Am I the only person who's watching this wondering where the hell the last twenty bloody years has gone!

  • @gextvedde I'm with you. Life...

  • bien mais avec Fish c 'est mieux.Enfin pour moi, mais les gouts et les couleurs.

  • For f**k's sake, I can't believe people are always complaining that they don't play any pre- 1988 stuff, but when they do so, we get all that "no fish, no marillion" crap!!

If you don't like it then stick to they album and don't write such pointless comments!!

  • It shouldn't had place - I think that "Warm Wet Circles" and several songs before SH should be perform only by Marillion together with Fish. Those songs were created when I was young and it was (is) part of my story - always "WWC" and others like Childchood's end? will respond to past of several souls and hearts combine with Fish’s voice and lyrics. There are a lot of songs after Fish what were create by Marillion to show together with SH. Presonally I like „Ester” or Season's End.

    Regards

    CD

  • Being 16 years old, and getting a Love of Fish from my dad 5 years ago, i was very biased and never really gave Hogarth a chance...But this isn't bad at all, i can';t beleieve i haven't been fair in the past :) awesome :)

  • One of those old Fish songs that actually sounds better having h sing it. He always handles it beautifully.

  • I like it, but Fish please come back !!!

Oh, i think it's not possible. But we can dream !!

  • Great voice

  • I Really like more the H than fish too

  • and the wineer issssssssss

    h

    h is the beast

  • I've never been a fan of Hogarth singing Fish's material. I don't think he does a great job with it, never did.

That said, he handles WWC very, very well. This was an excellent performance.

  • fish and H are different styles. I love ALL M

  • I like them both. But I don't like Hogarth to sing Fish-Songs. Only before I heard the version of Fish. Fish is Fish an "H" is "H". Marillion to me are two completely different Bands. I sing in a tribute.show and I think I'm the better Fish than "H". Something in between. But "Kayleigh" to me is the hardest Fish-Song to sing.

  • Fish vs H is quite a bit like DLR vs Sammy, isnt it? 'tis a sad thing people just cant enjoy the music for what it and appreciate the talent that all "4" of the lead singers have to bring to the band(s). ;)

  • This guy is probably doing his very best...but if you´ve ever seen marillion performing with "Fish" as I have in the 80 ties live on stage...incomparable.

  • @crispy764 -- where do the decades go?

  • Nice gloves h! :)

  • You have to understand.......everyone who grew up with Fish knows that when he swam away Marillion drowned....One of the saddest days of my life

  • If that were true, I wish many bands would drown like Marillion :)

They still make amazing music, 20 years after starting over. Happiness is the Road is subtle but very moving.

  • one of the saddest days and one of the best days at the same time: marillion with h is like a new sunrise, too bad most of the former fans are blind and ignorant.

  • Marillion,...Two of the greatest bands in the world

  • Too true, mate.

Both Era's are brilliant repsectively, and the only people who are missing out are those who don't have an open enough mind to try out and enjoy both :)

Enjoy those of you who can, personally, I think this is a great cover.

  • Now finally a comment I can agree with...two different styles...same fantastic musicians and *two* GREAT singers...

Two different band experiences...but both out of this world.

  • To all of you slagging Steve (H):

You people are dumb as a brick, and you know nothing of the history behind H joining the band. In interviews he has talked about how thrilled he was to join and how much fun they had recording their first album (SEASON'S END) together. He described that period as "heaven."

He had big shoes to fill but helped write & record a GREAT record. He was nervous as hell about this first tour, but he sang his tail off & the REAL Marillion fans recognized it.

  • Finishing up:

No, H isn't Fish. But Fish isn't H either. Instead of slagging H, why don't you actually buy several H-period Marillion albums, listen with an open mind, and give him a chance?

You might be surprised to find he's a great singer and a damn good lyricist as well. His lyrics aren't as wordy as Fish's, but he's far more positive than Fish and has a greater diversity of ideas.

Instead of dismissing him for something he's not, why not appreciate the talents he does have?

  • I actually bought the complete Marillion discography, including a lot of official bootlegs, lives and almost everything (like Xmas cds). I didn't start this boring discussion at all. I love Marillion. That's all

  • I think both Fish and H are talented in their own way - hey it's a great band - why can't we just enjoy both?

  • H did it well, I love this song,, but I Like most fish's version! although I like H's era.

  • I don't understand, this a version I've never heard before... after the first 5 minutes , is it still being fish's war wet circles? or is it a hogarth's version?

    anyway

    it's a great song!

    thanks!

  • H is far far better than Fish. Of course h's work on Fish era songs is not so good, because he doesn't have the same pathos and dramaticity. I also think, looking this vid, that H's voice is improved a lot since than. Today he's a fantastic singer, and Marillion are still a great band. Though i'm still caught in Fish era

  • "Dramaticity"? Where did you get that word? There's no such word in the English language.

  • please forgive me, of course I'm not english (thanx god:-)) and I used something taken from my language which probably doesn't mean nothing to you. i'm so sorry. I think the meaning of what I wrote was understandable enough, though. don't fool with me, please:-)

  • I know what you meant, and it's not a big deal. I didn't mean any offense -- I was just letting you know there wasn't any such word. People make up words all the time on this site, and sometimes I just think "huh?"

My wrath *laugh* that I expressed towards others in this thread -- after I responded to your post -- was not directed at you at all.

We're both Marillion fans, so it's all good. And I'm not even going to respond to your remark about "thanking God" you're not English. *laugh*

  • it was obviously a joke. you have to know that i'm italian, from milan, i'm an Inter fan and yesterday we had a hard day against ManUtd. This days I can't love England (and H is a ManUtd fan, too), sorry

  • Oh, okay, I understand. I've heard that Europeans are pretty intense when it comes to football (or as we call it, soccer). We don't have the same kind of rivalries here in the U.S., of course, 'cuz we don't play against other countries much (except in the Olympics). But I understand the national pride behind your sports teams.

Heh heh ... so when Marillion plays gigs in Italy, do Italian fans heckle them about football or being English? *laugh*

  • HACK

  • hahaha, I could not agreed more :D

  • I really have not heard much of marillion since Fish left but this has no feeling at all for me I only ever seen them once but it was the best in the fish days for me But I have to say some of the new stuff iv heard i think is good neverland i like but I dont know much of the new stuff but I loved all the old stuff it was the best

  • Fish!!What can I say this track I relate to this as fish is singing it! he comes across as a down and out a drunk (well thats what he was) this guy I cant sit here and listen to this and think this is Marillion TBH

  • Quote: Fish!!What can I say this track I relate to this as fish is singing it! he comes across as a down and out a drunk (well thats what he was) this guy I cant sit here and listen to this and think this is Marillion TBH "

Where did you get the idea Fish was a "down & out drunk"? He was no such thing (ever). What are you talking about?

As far as not "thinking this is Marillion" just 'cuz Fish isn't singing, keep in mind Fish only wrote the lyrics. The other guys wrote the music.

  • Of course sings it with more feeling. He wrote the song;)

  • I think Fish sings it with more feeling.....As i think the lyrics would mean more to him than they do to Hogarth

  • ah the arguments. but seriously folks, its not like H just forced his way into Marillion and said, "Lets play like this instead."

obviously, the other guys wanted to do something else with their music. dont get me wrong, i like the Fish era stuff better. its just funny how everyone assumes that the rest of the guys in the band were too dumb to realize that they arent the same with H.

  • I don't think H is a better singer than Fish, and especially not in combination with marillion music. Marillion with Fish was a unit with tremendous shows, music and spirit. After Fish left, Marillion hasn't created anything even near the standard of music of their four first albums. Now Marillion is a completely different band and theyre a lot more commercial. So is it not sad when this new Marillion with the booring creature Hogarth tries to recreate Warm Wet Circles? Yes it is, it's very sad.

  • Ouch!! I didn't get any notification of you answering! YouTube doesn't work that well...

Luckily enough, I love this performance SO MUCH that I came back here and eventually found your comment.

Well, you've got your opinion and I (must) respect that.

Besides, I stopped listening to Marillion in the mid-90's. They've been suckin since then IMHO. Somebody told me their last work "Happiness is the road" is worth it, but I don't know.

    Peace.

  • Marillion without fish is like a bird without wings... Hogarth is killing this song, so sad.

  • You were ironic, weren't you?

Well I hope you are, 'cause Steve is an amazing singer (far better than Fish, who is more a performer) with unbelievable skills.

We're all sorry you were more into the Fish era, but you can't say H is killing this song because it's totally untrue.

Let's ask Fish to sing some of the H repertoire, that would be one hell of a chellenge for him!

I'm not defending H, I don't care about him, but to claim that the band isn't ok anymore without Fish is blasphemous.

  • Marillion have gone through a fantastic transformation. Both ends of the spectrum (DERICK DICK, STEVE HOGARTH) equal in there genius!

  • Its Fish's don't go there

  • Fish can go and get some chips. His an arrogant git, and a player. Marillion rock with both H and Fish really H forever he is the one who got marillion 11 more albums! Fish left at the first hurdle

  • Great post. I love both marillion era's so it's interesting to hear Hogarth singing the Fish stuff. I think he does a grand job of it.

  • Not a bad version of this tune from Hogarth...it's a tough song to sing...he did it o.k.! I still prefer Fish's voice but but H has done amazing things for these guys!

  • First time I see this video. Great interpretation.... Fish what?

  • i love both, fish had the better lyrics that fitted a time and a place, but on hinsight some still seem apt.but i will always agree that H has the better vocal range, and to the geezer who has not bought a thing since fish left,i felt the same till i bought seasons end when it came out,and then i knew they were in safe hands!!!! especially after buying a wilderness in a edge of mirrors!!

  • Mr H is the best thing that could happen to this band. If God had a voice it would sound like H's one.He sings so much better than Fish....he has a wider vocal extension, more power, he's more emotional and harmonic, has better technique, more expressivity, more stability on high tones.Steve forever.

  • I like mr H, and really appreciate what he's done for Marillion, though he sings it awfully. :)

  • i love Fish but i also love this version of this song...Hogarth sings it very nicely

  • this is awesome!!!!!!!

i prefer the version of stve hogharts

  • I'm with you there. It's a great track when it's being sung by someone that can actually sing... (lights touchpaper & retreats to a safe distance ;)

  • @tom1810 I still have the demo tape that was sold in my local pub.. just before they got their first recording contract.!! And had a chat with Fish after the gig!!

  • @tom1810 fuck off you fag, this IS fish's song, always has been, always will be, steve is good, but he's out of his depth singing this classic. FACT.

  • Disagree there i'm afraid. I prefer this version to the live version with fish i watched ere the other day

  • they are so different voices, its normal some people prefer one to another.

  • @hybridalienrob Fish's version back in the day is better i reckon, but fish's voice is just deteriorated now. Age isn't boding well with him D:

  • I sort of agree with you. Fortunately enough, Hogarth has clearly followed his own way and not sang much from what Fish left. Still I would not call it awful, you camel.

  • Always excellent.

  • Poveretto...ci prova, ma è così limitato!

  • He's soooo young and sweet
