Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson are the most recognised duo for writing top hits for almost anybody with a name in the history of music. These 2 even wrote for my uncle (as a soloist) back in his heyday and took credit for TEARS DRY ON THEIR OWN (Amy Winehouse) from her Back to Black cd. They were inducted into the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame in 2002, a ceremony long overdue. Ashford died of throat cancer on 8.22.2011. In 1996, Nick & Valerie opened The Sugar Bar in NYC as a legacy. Great food!

Just heard about the death if Nick Ashford. So sad. THis song takes me back to the summer of 1982 when I had just graduated from the 8th grade. Brings back memories from a bygone era. If you listen to the words of this song, You can see that it was ahead of it's time & timeless in its social message that could apply to what's going on today. Great song.
