I just looked up the ending to the original "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame" and I was really suprised about the ending. Esmeralda dies after being hanged, Frollo dies after falling of Notre-Dame, and Quasimodo dies of starvation.
Wow. Alan Menken sang Frollo's part beautifully. I think I may even prefer a high-voiced Frollo, reminds me of who he was in the book--the tortured Archdeacon who took in baby Quasimodo out of pity.
And the line, "You are deformed, and you are ugly, and these are crimes for which the world shows little pity"--damn, so true. We're so quick to judge each other, even those who aren't necessarily deformed but are just considered by society to be "average" or "not very pretty". What a shame.
I love the original song so much, but I find myself coming back to listen to this one more and more often. Something about the piano...it makes it seem more personal, and every time I sing along I can't decide whether to smile or cry.
oh man i have never heard alan menken actually sing and it was amazing!! :D im just bummed he didnt go for the high belting note on "I'D treasure every instance" but overall so awesome :)
Next to Ashman, Schwartz is his next best collab. They should really collaborate on another film in the future. Slater is alright but I miss smart lyrics being supported by the heart of Menken's music. Aside from Mother Knows Best, my favorite bits of music in Tangled were the score.
I think Alan Menken would be perfect for a musical/animated version of Of Mice and Men that I want to make. I want to have an "I Want" song for Lennie that's very similar to this!
@RoboticxGirl hm listen carefully, i think it's stephen. At first i thought it was just alan. Compare frollos part, with some live performances of stephen, it's him singing
@Jiwpgakis I listen to Alan a lot. on the little shop of horrors soundtrack, there's a lot of demo songs. And they also would have known if Stephen was singing it. Or they would have checked. This is Disney we're talking about.
@Zephyrrix I agree too, as someone once said (I think it was Frank Losser's daughter) "composers always sing their songs best, even if their voices aren't good!"

I think Alan Menken should sing in a Disney movie.

If that's Stephen singing Frollo's part, their voices sound very much alike!

I never knew Menken had such a great voice. You learn new things each day, I guess.

I think I might actually like the Demo of this song better then professional recording done for the movie. Is that wrong?

Hope people can now understand the hard work and time that goes into making animate movies, comics and graphic novels.

0:30 to 1:30 These images need to be in the movie, the designs are far more superior.

@Jiwpgakis But in the introduction, they would have mentioned that Stephen was singing - and they don't. Also, the voices sound identical.

@RoboticxGirl maybe they forgot , they're not well informed or so. I'm totally convinced now:D that it's stephen
