@rogernator5000 He was going to be, but they didn't have the wherewithal to build Subterrania, so they put the character below the streets of New York and rechristened him The Jeweler.
@rfridaythe13th Not only does this Doom-- Joseph Culp-- look better, but he is much more impressive in the part, really hamming it up in a decidedly Doom-like style. Far better than Julian McMahon's whiny portrayal.
@MaskedMan66 right? that Julian McMahon's voice sucked. i hated how when he gets the board in the 2nd movie. he becomes really powerful, and that costume looks pretty cool. but then he talks and it ruins it :(
I saw a video where the explain the reason for this movie, the studio had to complete a movie before the end of the year so it wouldn't lose the rights to use the characters,so they made this on a really small budget so they wouldn't loose those rights,it was never meant to be released
Yup they got it into production five days before the rights would revert to Marvel. Who you gonna call when you want an unreleasable rubbish pic made for zero money...ring ring hello Roger Corman lol
Actually, this budget was about 50% higher than he was used to- no joke. The German production house, Constantin, tried to raise a $40 million budget but couldn't, so they got $1.4 mil together with Corman in time to not lose the rights - he was used to $500k or at most $1 million. Corman made low-budget movies, very quickly, and he usually made a good profit, because folks generally knew what they were getting when they saw his name on a film.
WRONG....The music in this vid will give you all a clue as to how much Corman had spent on a movie prior to making this one and, it was a lot more than 500k.
Right, my point was that Corman had worked on movies costing in excess of $500,000, which he had, BBTS being that film, which is where this music is from.
@pathfinderLXXIV No, what they set out to do was make the best movie they could under the time and budgetary restrictions they were under. And to the open-minded viewer who understands about those restrictions, the result really is quite good.
The script, the acting, the music and the sound editing are first-rate (or at least no worse than in any big-budget superhero flick), with only the effects being below par. But even they show great innovation.
la verdad si se me antoja verla, los actores si se parecen a su contraparte en comic

MorganaKoDT 2 years ago
@MorganaKoDT Only if you look at a photo of them side-by-side: in the Thing suit, Carl Ciarfalio was still 6'4".
And at least the Thing was still taller than the Torch, unlike in the feature films!

I actually things The Thing in this movie looks better than The Thing in the newest Fantastic Four films.

I met the actor who played Ben Grimm, he said they started filming on December 31 to avoid losing the rights.

@blackhawknj I saw him on a T.V. show a few months back, playing a thug; he sort of looks like the big-screen Ben now, having saved his head!
