What this means though is that horses can't be slaughtered humanely and go to Mexico instead, where there are no regulations on slaughter and so they're actually much worse off now.
By the way, they aren't killing Blak Beauty. Most of the horses who go to slaughter are dangerous ex-racehorses or horses who are the result of back yard breeding and so their conformation is so bad that they wouldn't be any good at anything anyway.

You're attacking the slaughter plants for the condition of the horses there, but these horses didn't get like that in that plant, they got like that in the care of their so called owners. The plants were a way out for horses that no one wanted and no one cared for, I mean for gods sake just look at them. Over 100,000 annually via injury that can't be fixed, to dangerous animals that are rogue in nature and can't be tamed. They are out there. And as far as how they process horse meat, cow meat, etc. it is not by slicing their throats, it's called captive bolt and they die instantly.

@MizzHorseryder there are no websites, there are two horse slaughter houses in the uk and you have to know the times when the horses are being slaughtered, there is one in nantwich called the red lion abattoir/ chesire equine services; they kill the horses on fridays from 7 am to 5 pm.
There is also another called potters abattoir in taunton, they kill the horses on wednesdays.
Save a horse from slaughter, its one of the most rewarding thing you can do, i know.

Horses to me are as dear as my dogs and cats. It was bad enough holding my Murdoch when he was put down by a vet in a humane and dignified way. But to think that creatures who love and obey our every stupid human demand are being killed in this way just makes my soul ache. I could never do this to my animals.

I do agree that horse cruelty needs to be stopped. However, I think that horse slaughter is a necessity in todays industry. Some horses that are slaughtered are good horses. However some are mean, so injured that people can't financially fix them, or families just can't financially support them. You can say that other people will want the horse. But there is only so many horses good sumaritans can save. I am 100% for horse slaughter, too bad it is banned in US and our county can't monitor

Some do go make jumpers and some mares go to the broodmare barn, others make hunters, etc. They don't just say "oh well, he couldn't run let's send him to slaughter" that's not practicing good business and that is what your race horse folks are in it for, business.

You think this is bad, what about Mexican plants where are horses are going now. The number slaughtered didn't go down after the US plants closed, it just moved to countries we can't regulate. But what is sadder a quick way out or being turned loose to try to fend for themselves after being taken care for, and them getting injured and suffering for months. Horse slaughter was banned by the government because the FDA couldn't regulate the meat leaving the country going to ASIA. NOW, what happens when the government can't regulate something? Unfortunately we can never end the slaughter. All we CAN do is to lobby for a more humane (nothing to do with Ba#**rd Humans!) way of killing the animals, ALL animals, that are killed for our (human) consumption.

yes but i say if you cant afford to put the horse down humanely dont buy the horse in the first place. Horses have feelings just ike people do. You cant denie it. they experience fear just as we do. Killing them like that is like killing a person. It is very looked down apon to kill anything that is good in God's eyes.

I do have facts to prove my case: There are more unwantyed horses in the US at this time than ever before. Over 100,000 annually via injury that can't be fixed, to dangerous animals that are rogue in nature and can't be tamed. They are out there. And as far as how they process horse meat, cow meat, etc. it is not by slicing their throats, it's called captive bolt and they die instantly.

My ranch runs 3,000 beef cattle and I need horses to run it much like a farmer needs a tractor. they are not pets to me. I own over 100 horses also. I raise them and train them to rope. with slaughter plants closed the horse market went with it. The last horse I sold at a salebarn cost me 35 bucks to get rid of him. there is still a strong market for good cont

@MizzHorseryder there are no websites, there are two horse slaughter houses in the uk and you have to know the times when the horses are being slaughtered, there is one in nantwich called the red lion abattoir/ chesire equine services; they kill the horses on fridays from 7 am to 5 pm.
There is also another called potters abattoir in taunton, they kill the horses on wednesdays.
Save a horse from slaughter, its one of the most rewarding thing you can do, i know.

But yes you are right some horses have been abused and just got unlucky but we don't breed horses for meat in the UK. Horses to me are as dear as my dogs and cats. It was bad enough holding my Murdoch when he was put down by a vet in a humane and dignified way. But to think that creatures who love and obey our every stupid human demand are being killed in this way just makes my soul ache. I could never do this to my animals.
As for those guys who think it's funny, they have obviously never taken time to be with horses and appreciate their subtle signs of love & the rich beautiful personalities they have.

Here is what I think...yes som horses need to be slaughtered so they don't hurt anyone, but the need do put humanly put to sleep, not killed like they are, if they are bad horses just kill them by lethal injection...I know in some places they eat horses because it is all they have and it is their way o flife, plus they don't have anything else to eat!! If a horse needs to be put down , let it be put down in a sensibly way and only put down horses that can't be saved or are mean and evil!!

I do agree that horse cruelty needs to be stopped. However, I think that horse slaughter is a necessity in todays industry. Some horses that are slaughtered are good horses. However some are mean, so injured that people can't financially fix them, or families just can't financially support them. You can say that other people will want the horse. But there is only so many horses good sumaritans can save. I am 100% for horse slaughter, too bad it is banned in US and our county can't monitor

That's not necassarily true either. They are also given other chances first. Some do go make jumpers and some mares go to the broodmare barn, others make hunters, etc. They don't just say "oh well, he couldn't run let's send him to slaughter" that's not practicing good business and that is what your race horse folks are in it for, business.

Although I am an animal lover, I too believe that if a horse is abused all it's life, humane horse slaughter is the right thing to do.
Not the horrible horse slaughter, but the humane one.

-continued from previous-NOT killed for meat! They have to have a certain body condition score before they can be slaughtered for consumption. US has strict codes and guidelines. Guess what? Canada and Mexico doesn't. How about a swift death here in the states were they are cared for instead of being hauled on a double decker to Mexico only to be stabbed in the spine and gutted alive. It's a necessary evil. Do I like it? No. It's a part of life though.

Ok, so what do you propose be done with the hundreds of THOUSANDS of extra horse's out there??? You think government money should take care of them? What about the loss of US JOBS and BILLIONS of dollars for export? Did you know that 1 pound of horse meat sells for $36 in France?!?!?! The US economy could sure use it now.
