  • Saw the trailer, Killer dolls or living inanimate dolls always get my attention.

  • so this is not uncut?

  • @parnd

There is an uncut version, this is 1986's butchered and altered US cut that has a different score and lot of good stuff cut out, it's here the uncut unaltered superior version in subtitles. Reminds me of how New World did screwed up another great cult 80s foreign movie known as Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind in 1985 under the Warriors of the Wind cut.

  • I'm trying to remember this one movie, im not sure if it was this, but i remember this one scene very distinctly, its where this one woman is showing all these children her doll collection and then one of the dolls moves and scares one of the kids, then later when they all leave, all the dolls come to life and try to kill her.

  • this movie is masterpiece, but the US version sucks somehow :|

  • @MrJackDeth

I agree it is a great cult classic and Emmerich's only cult movie! New World Pictures did screwed up and mangled this movie in the US with altered hollywood sounding score that sounds like John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and Great Mouse Detective combined and the dubbing isn't too bad. Thank god for a superior cut with subtitles, ain't i right? have you ever seen the original New World cut of Nausicaa called Warriors of the Wind? a similar thing happened to that 80's animated film

  • Great movie! I actually have it on vhs but not dvd.

  • @Mhebner23

Wait until you watch the uncut extended German version.

  • almost like akira

  • You are right, it's similar to Akira. Same psychic powered boy who battles bad toys thing.

  • It's also a bit like Ghostbusters if you think about it.

  • Anyone this movie is kind of Terry Gilliam-esque fantasy here? it's dark and unique yet underrated with a small cult following.

  • Yes, this film is definately up there with movies like Time Bandits, Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

  • Which version's score do you like better? for me it's the German version cause it's more original sounding and more epic that has emotion.

  • Well i like both versions for different reasons. You're right about the German score being more original sounding. The U.S. score was more traditional and Hollywood sounding for this type of film, sort of a cross between John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith.

  • You gotta admit Joshua Morrell did a great acting job for a kid unlike that Star Wars Episode I Jake Lloyd. Now here's a real talented young boy, i wonder whatever happened to him? his career was sooo promising.

  • You're absolutely right, and he wasn't the only one. Danny Lloyd did a great job in The Shining and Oliver Robbins was also great in Poltergeist. I wonder what ever happened to them?

  • Mmm hmm, those too.

  • Don't you think the score here at times sounds like the one to the disney movie The Great Mouse Detective?

  • You're right, it kind of does. I never thought about that before.

  • You remember GMD when it came out the same summer as this movie in 1986? at the end credits of this version, you will notice this version's score ending sounds nearly identical to the one in The Great Mouse Detective.

  • Yes, i went to see it with my cousin and we both loved it.

  • @TheAltair4

Who do you think is scarier that summer? Ratigan or Fletcher?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Fletcher, easily. lol

  • @TheAltair4

The summer of 1986 was awesome for movies don't you think? you got to see Labyrinth, this movie, Transformers, The Fly, Great Mouse Detective, Jason Lives ,Ferris Bueller, Flight of the Navigator, Howard The Duck, Top Gun, Aliens, Highlander etc. did you also see Sleeping Beauty, Gobots Battle of the Rock Lords, Maximum Overdrive, Short Circuit, Invaders from Mars, Jake Speed, Karate Kids 2, Night of the Creeps, Stand by me and Song of the South as well?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I saw all of those in theaters except for Night of the Creeps, which i saw on video the next year. 86 was an awesome year, but i liked 88 even better.

  • Thanks alot for posting this movie, it creeped me out when i was a kid :)
