now this is a camera which feels so good the moment you hold it in your hands.... the only drawback is that there is no liveview but not many people use liveview.... atleast i dont.
this might sound stupid to sum people but im new to this, why r u comparing the a700 to the a100, and not the 200, 300 or 350, was the 700 released before them, if so why call it 700
Yes, you did review the E510 and I enjoyed your review tremendously but I was directing that comment at another of your commentors (djalipetita)below.
Your reviews are very helpful to those who need to get a factual and unbiased opinion or rating on any particular camera. Again, I thank you for all of your fine efforts and spectacular camera reviews.
I love my E510! it's as dependable as any camera could be and a worthy investment for those who need more than a snapsot camera with a limitless set of variables for the discerning photographer.
It's been 10 months since I commented above and although I'm sure that I've changed, my Olympus is the same as the day I bought it.
When I bought it at Circuit City, I waived their extended protection offer ($99.00 for 3 years). Little did they realize that my Olympus would out live them!
i need advice.... i wanna buy, either a canon d 400 or nikon d60...which one u recomend, to iniciate photograpgy, iam not professional...and what kind of leneses 18 135?
I'll keep this brief as this video is about the Sony A700! I haven't tested the D60 yet, so can't comment, but the models I'd recommend for beginners can be found in the Budget DSLR Best Buys section on the Cameralabs . com website.
Hi everyone, we've now tested a final production Alpha A700 and updated the preview video as promised with a new verdict. You'll find the video from the Cameralabs page on YouTube. Note the first seven minutes are the same as this preview.
Perfect review as usual! I own a Sony DSC-G1 cybershot, a point and shoot camera, having a 3,5 inch LCD with 920k dots. I should say that the screen is absolutely fantastic!
The Nikon D3 / D300 have an identical specification screen to the A700. The 920k figure refers to the total number of red, green and blue dots on the screen - that actually translates into 640x480 real full colour pixels. But this is still four times the resolution of common '230k' screens. Bottom line, the A700, D3 and D300 screens look great...
We will be doing a video for the 40D as soon as we get one, and we'll compare it against the Sony when a final production A700 becomes available... In the meantime, you can compare the features of the A700, 40D and D300 in the Verdict page of our A700 preview at Cameralabs . com - see link to the right of the video window...
Hi everyone, Sony USA has confirmed the expected price to be $1400 USD for the A700 body alone, which puts it about 100 bucks higher than the current asking price for the Canon EOS 40D - so the 40D looks like being its biggest rival, although there's also obviously the Nikon D300...
Tried to look for some "official" info on this camera yesterday but Sony had pulled all references to it on its websites. I was quite surprised to see this review so soon. Certainly seems to be a fully featured piece of kit but I'll reserve judgement until I see some IQ reviews.
There should be a comprehensive preview article on the site if you click the link to the right of the video window! Let me know if you can't see it for some reason... hope you enjoy it!

If you read my review of the A700 at cameralabs . com, you'll know it's the second DSLR from Sony after the A100, hence the comparison.

Hey Gordon,do you know if the a700 will ever add live view and tilt lcd? What do you think the best overall lens is for this camera?

Do you mean a new version of the camera? Who knows?! Everyone's expecting the next Alpha to be a flagship full-frame model...

The A700 is amazing.
Sony is doing the best job, Minolta was always the best (introducing always the best lenses and technology), Sony is continuing this.
Did you now, Nikon´s D300 is 50% made by Sony?
Go home Nikon.

Does this mean that the 920,000 pixel screen on the d300/d3 will look even better?

Great video review, as usual.
Looks like a great camera, shame that it is a Sony, it will be a while until I buy any Sony product. ;)
jonragnarsson 4 years ago
?? why??
koolwitje 4 years ago
why as in 920k will look better? 920k dots translate into 640x480 resolution, while 230k dots is only 320x240, just like what Gordon said.
Can't imagine it? set your monitor's resolution to 640x480, then set it to 1280x960. Compare. Now you should get it.

I like the UI layout on the display but the lack of a top mounted LCD (for outdoors sunny day sessions) is turn off to me.
