this is an awesome video and I appreciate all the work and craftsmanship that goes into making these.... but OMG I'm so glad for cheap chinese $20 shoes, I would always be barefoot if this was the only way to make shoes now.
@KustomFu That is called "demand". Having a wide selection is a good thing. On the other hand consider this: if shoemaking would have died out (practically), shoemakers would be able to produce shoes for around 100 USD, and chinese shoes would be sold around 50. And I believe I don't need to explain how much better to wear something from real leather than plastic.
In a world where everything is mass-produced on an assembly line, I think that it has become somewhat lost that real craftsmen were also artisans as well. I think this is one of the real treasures that Youtube has to offer; showing people that so-called "lost arts" like this are still being practiced and inspiring others to take up a craft. I myself have not ignored this and am looking into blacksmithing.
Thank your sir for ur reply i a shoe maker specialized on slippers i want to be an apprentice in your workshop im currently in malaysia so how do i get started?
The upcoming courses in NYC will be held this June. You can learn about the courses at w w w . shomakingcourse . c o m.
There are different kinds of shoomaking techniques you can choose from: men's basic and advanced, high heel shoemaking and shoe design and pattern making as well.
To see me live, and to experience what it feels like to be a shoemaker, come to my hands-on course in New York in November, or be an apprentice in my workshop for a month in Budapest, Hungary.

is that a cottonthread with a beeswax coating...?

Cottons thread is right, only beeswax is not enough for this. We mix it with other stuffs.

Actually not goodyear, but very similar. English-sewn.
MarcellHUN 3 years ago
This is the goodyear.
grindoc78 3 years ago
That looks kind of like a planishing hammer. What do you call it?
Jesusisyhwh 3 years ago
Is this what we call the "goodyear" construction?
Angyboi 3 years ago
nope. But very similar. Goodyear is made by machines.
MarcellHUN 3 years ago
Very mesmerizing... No wonder why good handmade shoes cost about $300 and up.

How about some more music. The last one was great in video 2
utooth 4 years ago
there is so much detail in what you are doing it is easy to see how it takes such a long time to hand make shoes. Congratulations on a job well done.
