the company i worked for insisted on hauling our asses around on a company-owned plane that used propellers...and get this... piston engines!!!

I felt like i was a fucking gunner on a B-17. The plane vibrated and shook so bad, and i could smell burning oil. And this was 2005.

I should not have got on those flights....

Lockheed Constellation airliner, I remember the one tragedy,when the Bulgarian Communist jetfighters shut down the Israeli Airlines EL AL Constellation under flight from Vienna to Tel Aviv.The cruel tragedy never perfect explained by Sofia.To this day we know nothing about the order to kill the international civilians and civilian crew very mixed this time.

ots of old planes have that, its a massive antennae and has nothing to do with structural integrity

@BeyondNeptune That's the antenna. The older radio systems weren't that powerful and required longer antennas to get the signal out. It was strung to the tail of the aircraft so that it could stay the same length without getting in the way of other parts.

Some trivia: Constellation has turbo compound engines to improve efficiency and if I remember correctly the crew can add oil to the engines during flight (if there's a leak).

Great shots of the famous Constellation. I can tell ME42000 is a plane guy. I used to watch it land and take off all the time. At the end of their passenger career they turned them into freight carriers. It was very interesting to watch a fully loaded plane use full length of the runway. The Wright engines with the long blue flame comming from the exhaust was spectacular..They always made to the air....It was breathtaking. To be pilot in those day took nerves of steel....
