in islam music is known as the food of the soul, the islam that you see or know may not be the true islam, those muslims who say music is forbidden or something like this only follow their tradition not their religion, there is no such thing in the quran or the hadiths which says you shouldnt listen to music. iam a religious muslim and i love music, i think people can get closer to god by listening to music, especialy traditional iranian music.

setarehira, there are hundreds of branches in Islams. I can refer to more than 20 sects of shiia alone. In case you don't know, quran plus Sonat is base for Sunis while Shiia believes in Quran and HADITH. Just read any tousihalmasael and you can see hundreds of hadiths in this regards. I recommend any from Kolaini, Majlesi, Sheikh Bahaii, khomeini or even nahjolbalaghe or nahjol fasahe.

there are ONLY 2 main branche sin islam 1 sunni 1 shia. the base for both of these is the quran and the hadiths. shias also put great importance on their imams(family of the prophet).All muslims do the hajj in the same place at the same time in the same way.they pray together, they fast in the same month, they celebrate the same eids,they all have the 5 pillars.

Setarehira, Persian music was thought to arabs first by abou ashagh Mouseli and later turks adapted it as a whole. In case you don't know, even most of technical words in arabic music is still Persian including the name of DASTGAAHHA, SeGaah, Shour, etc.

the difference is that sunnis elected friends of the prophet to resort to, in the time of help. but the shias followed the person whom the prophet had told muslmis to resort to after him, and that person who was imam ali(a) was the closest person to the prophet.

All there exist was just women and men singing for wedding or other occasion and clapping hand or woods so there was no need to directly forbid music in quran.
