Why is every post in youtube a flame war? Im pretty sick of seeing it. Stop feeding the idiots and trollers with frivolous replies that have nothing to do with, nor were directed at you.
Now for my criticism, having lived this period of his/my life and much played this Sonata (D. 784, "Samantha") over the past year and a half: Not fast or passionate enough. In the relief section of the exposition there is a chord (I have not analyzed it yet and cannot for some time, so I cannot identify the sonority specifically and will get back to all of you (C natural)) that deserves a massive rubato that invokes tears, and it is not realized here. Also, this is bad. Sorry. Nice try, though.
He was too beautiful and adorable for this world, as is true love (which barely exists in our world, and people lie to themselves to not have to deal with it) and his early death, tragic though it is, is truly fitting. He suffered and died for love, which he understood better than anybody, ever, making him as great a musician, in a very different way, as Bach. Gott rest his soul, as he deserves it, and may we all strive to resurrect him in our lives and our actions. Alle Seelen, ruhn in frieden.
Seriously though, if you actually think this is bad and you don't like Schubert, you have a lot of listening to do. Failing that, you're an idiot child and I bet you like "lend everybody else the burden of his anxiety" Schumann. You will suffer as you deserve to.
If you're making a comment on this being too slow (for this time, tempo accelerates as pitch rises and I didn't consider it at a comment on interpretation), you're right. But if it's the composition, asshole
right into the soul... right from the soul. And hey, we all have our time to be born and our time to die. I believe that Mr. Schubert, God rest him, gave all that he had to give here. The rest is for the angels, and for God Himself.
This is a rather bare, austere piece. It reminds me somewhat of Der Doppelganger, but this is less tragic. Schubert is usually somewhat too lyrical for my liking, but I like the drama and the intensity of this sonata. For me, he is somewhat overrated as a composer, even though he was clearly a genius. I think the greatest geniuses were Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner; Haydn, Schubert and Brahms are not far beneath these masters though.
Schubert did, indeed suffer. Almost none of is finest instrumental music was known in his lifetime. And then, there is his life itself: a rough time with a few good friends. He is the ultimate "romantic" suffering artist. I don't know if that has any meaning: perhaps for us.
Augh...this sonanta always gets to me. So amazing and filled with powerful emotion...This Sonata is one of my favorites from schubert and i think most would see why. And, the pianist: supernaturally talented. just by hearing it you can tell the mastering of the piece. There are no words to describe the greatness of this piece...
Astonishing!! Truly there is a reason why schubert is one of my favorite composers. The Music just sort of eases its way into you. aww. truly amazing...what a great genius!
This is a wonderful performance of this profoundly expressive Schubert sonata. I believe the pianist is Wilhelm Kempff but I am not sure. I do hope I am correct -- but, whoever is playing, it is surely a masterly performance of a sonata by a great Master - a sonata and performance that poignantly touches one's heart and soul!
Wonderful! But let me repeat the previous commentator's question: Qui joue? Wer spielt? Chi suona? Who's playing? We should know the name of this wonderful pianist.
You have received much criticism, but you are right in your, lets face it, unoriginal comment. I have often been asked if there was an orchestral arrangement of this, and perhaps there ought to have been. Then again, the chords bleed together on the piano wonderfully, and I suspect that he would have left it as it was, beautiful and amazing as it is. This is a bad interpretation. Like... bad. Straight up bad. I am unforgiving. But you are right in your appraisal. Be not discouraged

Yes , this is is beautiful. I had the music for this once. I could only play a few bars. Schubert died so young. Such is life.

We can only imagine how much more brilliant music he could have written in his years after 31... so sad.
