  • Pretty good, but he should work on his italian. His accent is evident.

  • he would be a NZer with some Maori descent?

  • omar montanari is better!

  • awesome that he's australian/new Zealander!!

  • bad Italian pronunciation

  • Very interesting voice!!

  • Fantastic voice for Mozart!!!

  • That's really funny ... was it supposed to be?

  • What an interesting colour of voice has this guy...

  • i think with this, this might just be a promotional video, he actually is really engaging as an opera singer.

  • Sorry but the meaning of the lyrics wasnt a man drinking sampaign... GOT IT?! Whatever... please show some respect to what you perform!

ps You are just a baritone nothing more nothing less.

  • Schöne Stimme aber geschmackloses Video....

  • oh man what's wrong with him? what the hell is he doing with that drink of his?

  • so so so silly, averagely sung, and not a clue what he's singing about!

  • @kookyflegm

you crazy, his voice and technique are amazing and that's all that matters =)

  • This must be the scariest baritone ever.

  • @Hyarya

no, that would be leonard warren =) but he's pretty sinister too

  • Does he know what he is singing about? I surprised he could not have done a lot more to bring the text to life - the thing that sets vocal music apart from other music is the text - he did not use the text well at all. The tonal colour did not change at all for various words. If you were speaking this, you would by default change the colour of the tone. The articulation did not change and the boring meaningless facial expressions were "acted". Not impressed at all. pity, the voice has potential.

  • MAGNIFICENT!

Thank You MOZART! and what a great 'baritone'!!!!!

  • bravo... e molto bello!

  • Bravo......

  • Where can I purchase this song with Teddy Tahu Rhodes singing it?

  • @guitarmannjc

You can buy the CD 'Mozart Arias' by searching for Teddy at ABC Shop online (Australia, but they'll send anywhere in the world). If you're in Australasia you can buy the track on iTunes; we're hoping to have this available internationally later this year.

  • @guitarmannjc Are you too stupid to google it? Why bother asking here?

  • Where can I purchase this song by Teddy Tahu Rhodes? It is awesome

  • Go Kiwi!

  • @rlane91 Especially if he does it for a living. My little sister's training to be an opera singer and she's very at ease on stage while singing.

  • This doesn't make any sense in relations to what the text means...

  • @chaoticflame5 I fully agree with you. There's no relation to the text in what he's singing. I don't find him that good, for that reason.

  • cocky prick fuck

  • lip synch much?

  • hahaha Fooooooool...

  • what for/// ???? hm ...

  • what for/// ???? hm ...

  • Bravissimo!

    Sehr schon, bravo!

  • What's this song about? I can't understand Italian.

  • @SuzLa1 About why you shouldn't join the army...

  • @SuzLa1 You won't go any more, amorous butterfly,

Fluttering around inside night and day

    Disturbing the sleep of beauties,

A little Narcissus and Adonis of love.

You won't have those fine feathers any more,

  • @SuzLa1 That light and jaunty hat,

    That hair, that shining aspect,

That womanish red color [in your face]!

    Among soldiers, by Bacchus!

A huge moustache, a little knapsack,

Gun on your back, sword at your side,

  • @SuzLa1 Your neck straight, your nose exposed, A big helmet, or a big turban, A lot of honour, very little pay. And in place of the dance A march through the mud. Over mountains, through valleys, With snow, and heat-stroke, To the music of trumpets, Of bombards, and of cannons, Which, at every boom, Will make bullets whistle past your ear. Cherubino, go to victory! To military glory! The text was to long for one comment, sorry! :S
  • @SuzLa1 it's a song where Figaro is winding Cheribino about military life. basically

  • ...and crooked smile... *swoon*

  • Marvellous! He's singing as a man who's done it all already giving advice to someone young - I think he owns this aria, especially with those sexy eyes!

  • Oh, Teddy, sing to me, Teddy!!

  • I'm in love...

  • This. is. hysterical. I could not stop laughing after hearing this. While this singer has great stage presence and awareness, he does not portray the words AT ALL!!! I think the purpose of this video was simply to make people realize that he has a good voice, style, and a very flirtatious personality.

  • The video is just to present the singer's personality, not referring to the aria whatsoever. He sings nicely and his diction is near perfect. Still his style misses the certain something. I don't hear any inner commitment to what he's actually singing.

  • Nicely sung but the video is detrimental to the aria!

and one more good looking baritone along with Schrott, D'arcangelo, Keenlyside and Terfel (yes I find terfel very attractive in his big teddy-bear way)

  • This fellow has a very fine voice and does a very good job on this piece.

  • he's not really a true baritone right?!?!? he's a bass-baritone!!!

  • his voice is fantastic, incredible, perfect!!!!

  • very booring sung

  • if you know the lirycs it's very funny!

    Realy!

  • Where can I buy this song with Teddy Tahu Rhodes singing it?

  • @guitarmannjc i usualy bring the audio with dirpy.com! You use the url to download the music free!^o^

  • Very tasty I agree, but Bryn Terfel he isn't. I am old enough to remember the best performance. Does anyone else remember the great Sir Geraint Evans singing this? Brilliant!

  • love his smile:)

  • The video is very strange though...

  • Wow! He fits the role! Totally xD It is very nice to listen to him ^^

  • Alla gloria militar!!

  • NICE. although he seriously needs to sort out his Italian :s

  • Wow! What an absolutely unique voice and fresh interpretation!

  • somebody paint some eyebrows on that scary mofo! geeeez... btw, sing the count - much more suited for this baritone...

  • He normally performs the count

  • Tends to keep his mouth half closed as if speaking English causing some words not to be understandable....

  • I listen to him my very first time, but knowing that part, I cannot understand your statement "understandable", because I really could hear every single word - Sorry

  • This is the most ridiculous video of all times!

  • I love Teddy's voice he's one of my 3 favourite singers. The other 2 are Anthony Warlow and Donald Braswell, I would love to 3 of them to sing together all three have such powerful voices.

Braswell was an opera singer but became mute after a road accident in 1995 He finally got his voice back and is now a crossover singer... popera I guess it could be called.

I play this video every morning along with Anthonys This is the Moment and Donalds Impossible dream these 3 get this old girl going.

  • ohhhhhhhhhhh I LOVE TEDDY!!! :p :p

    doing us aussies proud! :)

  • You know he's a Kiwi, right? :D

  • Yeah I do :) and a very talented one at that! Footsteps of Dame Kiri!

  • Haha, just checking. ;) Still, I can easily understand why the Aussies might want to appropriate this guy...

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • i think i like his voice better than byrn terfels

  • By the way, does anyone else notice that he seems to be lip-synching his own pre-recorded voice in this video?

  • Be hard on him, yes, to keep him focused on the continued development of his already considerable talent. Its not his fault that he has abundant talents which a mere audio recording is incapable of conveying - or that there are people out there who take into consideration only what an audio recording can convey. In the theater its the whole package which counts.

  • If I had not seen the video, the sour puss comments would have convinced me: the guy is one of the best-looking singers before the opera-loving public. What a terrible affliction! Just because Caruso, Schumann-Heink and Homer were famously homely, it does not follow that someone cannot sing well and be comely or, in this case, downright hot. How dare he have the audacity to be one of the best-looking male singers before the public before he has become one of the best singers!

  • THis is farcical! His Italian pronunciation is atrocious. His voice is ok, but does he have any idea what he's singing? Martinis and glass curtains?!

  • His Italian needs work!!!!

  • "Another silly Baritone singing bass"? If you have ever been lucky enough to see Teddy in concert, especially with David Hobson, you would be able to make a better informed comment. Leave the "snobbery" out of it, buy a few of his CD's & if you still think he is "silly" leave it to the rest of us to enjoy.

  • ...it would be very favorable, for him as a baritone, to be heard in bari rep, as it's likely he's really very good there, but in the bass/bass-bari rep it just kind of, well, good, pleasant nice. Be nice to hear the thrill of him doing something his voice could really live and bloom in. I mean, would you want to hear Pavarotti doing bari rep, like Scarpia or the Count, no you want to hear him in his best rep. I prefer a Bass in their rep and I'd love to hear Rhodes in his, bet it'd be fab.

  • Another silly baritone doing Bass parts. Please. If you want to hear the real deal look up Ramey Non pui andrai on YouTube. This is a nice voice, but sing something appropriate that you can be accurately judged against your peers in.

  • Ever think of listening to music for its aesthetic value and listening to singers for the actual talents and gifts? This "everything's a competition" mindset does a diservice to artists worldwide. If you are too worried about "accurately jugding against" one's peers, then you're probably listening to music for the wrong reasons to begin with. :-)

  • Absolutely, couldn't agree with you more. It's not the "competition mindset" that led to my comments, as I think that's all quite silly. I'd just love to see Rhodes sing some real baritone roles. Like I said, in this piece it just plays as a nice voice, although yes it is pleasantly sung. Ramey, Furlanetto, Pape, even Terfel on the high side, those voices just fit this stuff soooo well. Rhodes, eh, it's just nice, and...

  • ...why just have nice when it sounds like he could really be special in true Baritone rep where he could turn the voice over in his true top, not the wide open singing he does on the top notes in this piece (E natural). Everything he's doing seems to be this bass-baritone rep (Figaro in Nozze is denoted Bass by Mozart) and it would be nice to hear him sing some Baritone rep, that's all. So, when I say "Accurately judged against one's peers" all I'm saying is...

  • love this song, but for lack of better words, what the fuck is that lump in his throat of to the left

  • lol! i believe it is called a larynx a.k.a. the adam's apple. tho his is rather pronounced :D

  • That's 'cause he's much skinnier than many bass-baritone singers we come across nowadays. Most men that are 6'5" tall have large body parts.

  • Pronuncia non proprio perfetta, ma voce limpida corposa ...

  • i am pretty sure he's from new zealand*

  • Bravo, mi piace assai

  • Deslumbrante, sensual, obsceno.

PESSIMO!!!!!

  • his pronounciation is perfect, except for T and D, pronounced as every english speaking human being horribly pronounce them... and he is soooo beautiful!!! is he single?

  • mmm teddy...beautiful performer! :)

  • wonderful voice. so powerfull without exertion, with smile on his lips.

  • he he he

  • Quelle voix!!!! Excellentissime

  • beautiful voice!!!!!

  • beautiful everything!

  • very very good ,lovely voice , strong

  • What an empty performer! While the voice is pleasant, there's nothing in those eyes. Was he medicated during the filming of this video?

  • I dunno; to me, I could believe that he was actually visualizing the miserable conditions he was singing about; it was a good impression of having "seen the elephant." Put him in a wig and a waistcoat and I'd buy it.

  • Who cares? This was clearly recorded mostly for the audio. I don't really care what he looks like. (have you ever seen Sarah Brightman's eyes when she sings?)

  • Someone should take Italian classes... he he.

  • does he know what he is singing about? mediocre.

  • HA, what a joke, he has not a clue what he is singing, listen to his diphthong's and straight tone. Go back to school. o wait obviously you didn't

  • umm....no....his diction is awful..wrong rhythms...in some cases its ohk to make a song your own..in this case its bad musicianship. its tone is decent though

  • too bad they cut away the first part...

  • really good

  • what is this??????

  • ascellomane - be so kind as to fuck off. There's a good fellow.

  • can someone please enlighten me why there is so much fuss about him? The singing is basically pleasant but certainly not world class star making sort of thing. It's good. Basta.

  • He is magnificent as Figaro...modern, fresh and utterly convincing. And so much more decorative than the usual overweight Italian baritone too...superb diction and one can hear the amusement in his voice as he teases Cherubino...excellent!

  • and his Ned Keene was GREAT!

I am so his #1 fan.

  • Teddy Tahu Rhodes is so hot!

    This is so amazing.

    :)

  • I've watched Teddy perform many times. The thing about him is that he's a fairly straight boy, but when the music takes him, he's transformed and becomes whoever the composer needs. He has the gift of turning reliability into drama. It's more than the voice, which I admire. It's his malleability and his instinct for self transformation that makes him a wonderful performer. And - he's a good Kiwi boy holding his own amongst those uppity Australians.

  • MMMM Lots of personality and gorgeous tone here ... a beautifully masculine opulent, seductive sound .... a pleasure to see and hear.

  • Nice sound for this aria, I like the fact that he is focused and knows the part without the music before him. Baritones are so lucky, they a HUGE range.

  • oops, sorry, what's with the beads...and the office chair? Days of filandering are over? Where's the clover?

  • Mmmm. Nice ad, but what's with the bead? Are you miming?
