I find this track spectacularly difficult to play. It truly is an awesome groove - so, so deep. I have been surprised that I don't get more 'hate' comments on it - because I have never felt that I was able to properly capture the groove. I have improved a lot since recording this, so maybe I ought to try again, this time on my Roland kit - that would be fun! Cheers!
TO be fair, even Ju Ju House didn't play the Slave to the Rhythm drum part, Steve Levine did. Using SMPTE offsets on a couple of Sony 32-track digital reel-to-reels.
Trevor Horn talks about this in his Sarm interview.
"So people, now real time! The grooves but null, untight full .."
I think I get the gist anyway. Read my description friend - at what point did I claim I could actually play this groove? It is very, very hard. Nonetheless, you are being rather harsh. Oh well.
Go-Go music is where that rythm that you are trying to duplicate comes from. It was created in Washington DC origionally by Chuck Brown. It's very difficult to get a grasp on playing it if you have not been around it all your life like most of us have. That's why I say you did a pretty good job my friend. If you want a better feel for it just visit us here in DC and im sure you'll get a better grasp on that rythm you're trying to get.
@ebonyprince71 Hey, thanks for that my friend! it is certainly a very difficult rhythm to grasp, and I have spent the last 20 years or more trying to 'get' this track. it is incredible :-)
You did a pretty good job here. The drum track was played by a drummer from right here in Washington DC. His name is William "Ju Ju" House. Everybody around here just calls him Ju Ju. He has been a long time member of a band called Experience Unlimited. This group was mainly known for it's single "Da Butt" for those outside of DC. If you want to see a live perfoemance of him on youtube just do a search for "EU Go-Go Live".

I am SO pleased that after almost 24 years, I am finally seeing people who think Slave to the Rhythm is an indelible masterpiece. Much the same effect this music continues to have on me even after this time. It wasn't just good music, it seemed either a rarity phenomenon or a extremely well thought out arrangement that still had to come from the spirit. I know Ian McShane's prologue by heart and the attack thereafter. The Fashion Show and Don't Cry - It's only the rhythm are mind benders too
please keep on doing this here, okay?I´m so impressed that I showed it to my husband,my mother and even my daughter..lol..we all love powerfull music in general and we are all very impressed by your passion and rhythm!!!Don´t stop, okay???!!:)
@takemedave Ha! Ha! Ha! I am deeply humbled :-) What a lovely comment - I can't believe you showed your entire family! You are all very welcome, and I am glad my passion and rhythm has been enjoyed so much by you all! I won't be stopping, don't worry - lots more to come, very soon!
I´ll hear that every day from now on and I´m gonna hear it so loud that my neighbour might dance to it too..lol..!wow,it´s so incredible rhythmic....orgasmic!!!!
@takemedave absolutely agree with you :-) This is orgasmic, and as I said in my description, if I recall, I think I actually had an orgasm the first time I heard the drum break!! This is one of the most amazing rhythms and production on a song I have ever, ever heard. Play it VERY loud!
Slave to the rythm...yea, an all time favourite of mine. This track got it all, even if Grace Jones is not the greatest vocal artist on the planet :-) Really enjoyed your drumming on this!
Ey! I'm from Barcelona and only want to say you that I was stunned when I watch this amazing attempting.... wow!! You have the rythm on the blood. You are a slave of the rythm!! Congratulations from Spain!!

Thanks, dillikins for acknowledging the DC Go-Go musicians that created the wonderful sound on this track. The early days of Go-Go had some phenomenal musicians and it's unfortunate that after all these years they have gone virtually uncredited for creating such an innovative sound.
The drummer on this track is William "Juju" House. He has played with a lot of the big names in D.C.'s Go-Go scene, including Chuck Brown and E.U. and is still active on the scene (as far as I know). You can catch Juju on "Put Your Hands Up! The Tribute Concert To Chuck Brown" DVD. If you like this kind of drumming and percussion, check out some Go-Go here on Youtube. Check out Chuck Brown, Rare Essence, Junk Yard Band, Go Go Mickey (percussionist)...
If you read through all the comments on this video, you will see that we have all been discussing this! And I say in my description that that I cannot work out who the drummer is.
My understanding now is that it is a combination of drummers and looped drum track - remember, this is Trevor Horn stuff, and it was a VERY advanced production.
I have written a couple of papers on the "Slave To The Rhythm" album, including an analysis of some of the rhythmic aspects of several of the versions of "Slave". The drum track is more or less a loop of part of a recording made with a group of D.C. Go-Go musicians. Steve Lipson chose the bits he wanted and , using the Synclavier II, constructed what we hear on the album. It is not a drum machine, but it's not exactly "live" either. Same goes for the percussion. Continued...
Actually, the sampling technology WAS there. The Synclavier II (16-bit sampling) was used extensively in the construction of "Slave To The Rhythm" and the drummer is acknowledged in the album credits (though not in the credits of the 12" release).
No prob...if only more musicians could see the bigger picture and have a sense of variety. Too many players allow themselves to be pigeonholed into one genre and tend to be dismissive of others. Ok, I'm off the soapbox now. You cover a broad spectrum in your playing. (I'm a sucker for that old Genesis stuff!) and as to your comments, I too went insane when I first heard that drum break with the delayed cymbal crash...I think I played that little section repeatedly for hours when I heard it.
Yes, I must admit that I have noticed that a lot of drummers seem to play very much one genre, which is perhaps a shame. I love all sorts of styles, and playing as many genres as you can seems to me to be a fantastic way to improve and widen the spectrum of musicianship.
Ha! Ha! - yep, that first time I heard this Grace Jones track will stick with me for the rest of my life, as I hope I got across in my description! The groove on this is just the deepest there is, bar none.
I watched your Genesis videos with glee. To see that you consider this one of the coolest grooves ever says as much about you as your playing. Bravo, good sir...you are truly a musician in the best sense of the word.
Yes, agreed - I use a lot of arm and little wrist. Lots of people have said this on my vids, and I am well aware of it! 35 years of being self taught has certainly not helped my 'style'.
Miles?? That seems a bit harsh! I know I said in my description that I have never mastered this one, but IMHO I think it is bit closer than 'miles'! How about a few inches?!
Anyway, yes, I am having a lot of fun, I love this track and I love putting my attempts on YouTube.
Also,to correct myself,i THINK that Steve Lipson was the drummer, but also that they used a DOUBLE drumsession, which is not uncommon on record as well as in live performances.
So on drumkit fills in where the other stops or makes another drumhit.
Maybe try something with anther person on a drumkit?
Keep up the good work, and you've gained one more fan!
I guess if you are not an experienced drummer, you probably cannot hear the subtle differences in timing that constitute either being 'in the groove', or 'not in the groove'! Yes, what I do is mechanically about right, but to my ear, the bass drum is not quite 'in the pocket' - it is forced.
Maybe I am being a perfectionist - certainly all the comments on here have been incredible from everyone, even including pro drummers!
dude you're AMAZIN'!. this song is smooth as hell, and i loved the beat to it. i couldnt imagine how it'd feel to play it. all tingly maybe. awesomeness! 'keep it up'
Hard to describe how it feels - when it is flowing right, and I feel close to the groove, then it is a beautiful place to be. A real sense of power and grooviciousness! Quite often though, I just can't play this right at all!
Nice job, very very good!! This is such a great beat. This song is just amazing and Grace is such a great artist. You sound great and I thought it was really cool watching you play this.
Great job...and indeed what a great and wonderful beat sequence - Hell - album. All around don't think anyone has attempted such a feat since this album was released. It was/is pure art and music. I too remember this back in the mid 80s high school - hot damn. Congrats and keep the beat alive in your heart your sticks your shiny self...be well...groove the Universe!
Nice job, Jouxplan! Having done my time in D.C. playing in Go Go groups like the one which JuJu House (the drummer on this track) played in, my only advice/comment is that you are a little on top on the beat. Lay back ever so slightly. Nice work. This is one of the baddest record ever recorded!
Yep, that is no surprise to me (that I am a little on top of the beat). Frankly it is all I can do to stay where I am on the beat, without trying to lay back any! But I do agree with you!
'One of the baddest records ever recorded' - I aint gonna argue with that!
Alex, your drumming is utterly amazing. Yes, that drum groove is indeed powerful. What an amazing feat of drumming.
I've always known that drumming (one of the oldest forms of music) is the heartbeat of music. You've proven that. Grace would be proud of you.
I rated this video 5 stars, favorited it and added your video to my playlist. I'll tell my friends about this drum groove. Keep up the good work. Take care.
--- WilsDomain (Children advocate, U.S. Marine/Cold War veteran)
You are not a "half decent drummer". You are one of the finest drummers of this world. A kind of drummer who I asked to God for several years to my former band. God never heard me.
There is a video online where Trevor Horn describes how the rhythm track was created. YouTube seems to be preventing me from posting the link, so I'll drop you a PM :)
Hello again! Have now seen the video you kindly told me about and that solves that really! Fantastic stuff! I noted with quiet glee that Trevor Horn himself said that the drum part that they created is actually very difficult for a drummer to play....I for one could not agree with him more!
No worries. I actually listened to the whole of the Slave To The Rhythm album last night and found it an absolute blast. I'm a huge fan of all of Trevor Horn's work and this is superb. I then listened to Grace's follow up album, Inside Story (produced by Nile Rogers) and remembered how good that was !
If you're looking for more tracks of the quality of "Slave", pick up Trevor's "Produced" album.
The answer to your question about who played this drum part will probably not be the answer you're looking for. Many have said it was Ju Ju, and they are, in part, correct. Trevor Horn was recording Experience Unlimited and his cohort, Steve Lipson, took a 2 bar loop and played it back across a couple of Sony digital recorders, and that was the drum part you hear in the final song with some overdubs and fills played in live.
Actually, your answer in some ways makes me feel a lot happier! I have always been stunned at the precision and power of this drum groove, and it has made me wonder about which particular human on this planet of ours was actually capable of playing it like this. So a drum loop thing kind of solves all that!
Arranged By - Richard Niles/ Bass Guitar - Luis Jardim /Drums - Ju Ju/ Featuring - Gary Maughan , Glenn Gregory , John Sinclair , Stephen Lipson , Strictly Unreasonable Zang Tuum Tumb Big Beat Colossus, The /Guitar - J.J. Belle /Keyboards - Andy Richards , Bruce Woolley/ Percussion - Little Beats , Shorty Tim
Whew! Ok, thanks for all that info! So the drums are being played by Ju Ju. And percussion is by Shorty Tim and Foxy Brown? Who is Foxy Brown? He does not seem to be mentioned in the credits, unless he is 'Little Beats'?
I know nothing of 'Ju Ju' and cannot find anything out about him! Anyway, his playing on this is simply incredible: the deepest, deepest groove I ever heard.
from Wash DC's own go-go band Experience Unlimited.I was born and raised in DC and go-go is a home bred style of music it was truly a big achievement the tear this single dropped because of their playing on the record if you go back and sample some of EU's breaks
Ju-Ju Shorty Tim & Foxxy Brown are the real players on this one....Oh and in case you're
wondering who the bass player is on Maxwells
A lil somethin somethin..Rare Essence's Funky Nedd(DC)
That's some pretty amazing drumming! The credits on the album (you did know there's a whole album of mixes of this, right?) say the percussion is by Frank Ricotti, Luis Jardim, Ju Ju, Little Beats and Shorty Tim. From what I've read, the track was built around a GoGo rhythm, with a lot of Synclavier work over the top. I saw Grace perform it live with Alan White on drums & Luis Jardim on percussion, and The Producers (Horn and Lipson's band) played it with Ash Soan on drums & Jardim's percussion.
Yeah, I do know about the various mixes - this particular version has always been my fav. You yourself have just listed various people from the credits, and of course this still does not tell us who the individual perpetrator of this awesome drumming is! What was it like with Alan White? Same detailed, powerful groove?
Hello. I lift my heel and raise the knee - it must be the video angle or something. Admittedly, I do not raise the knee much!
I see from your channel you are a civil engineering student - good luck! I am a Chartered Civil Engineer in my other life, and still recall how hard they work you as a student!
Steve Ferrone! That's the first time I heard that! Your comment just shows how difficult it is to find hard facts on this! At least i am not alone ion wondering who this genius is!
Anyway, many thanks for that, and thanks also for the compliment!
My cousin was a session player and did a lot of recording with the top people....yet nobody even knows this. Session people sometimes remain non famous---even though their skills make up the songs we hear.
Hello. Sorry, I am not sure what you mean. The whole song is a straight 4/4 groove, which includes the fills. The hi hat makes the groove very syncopated and the bass drum makes the groove very 'deep'. In the drum break about halfway through, the fills are just beautifully syncopated, tight and clever (and bloody hard to copy!!).
There ARE two fills that sort of make the bar sound shorter, but they don't in reality.
Yeah those two fills that make it sound shorter. I just was wondering what the effect was....you have answered perfectly...I listened to the original and you did it perfect...don't worry you got down!
You should meet up with grace jones and try to see if she'll preform again!
You know what? I am wrong! I am an idiot! The bar IS shorter.
The first one of these fills is at about 2'09. Until then, the snare is on 2 and 4, with bass drum on 1 and 3, as you would expect. Then comes that little double snare hit, and hey ho, now the backbeat (snare) is on 1 and 3 and bass on 2 and 4...
Except that 'cos the rest of the band have moved the bar too, it still sounds like a 2 and 4!!!
Bloody hell, that is high praise indeed, coming from a pro studio player! I don't know what to say! Thank you very much!
I definately have a bad habit with how I hit crashes, you are quite right. I think it stems from 15 years playing with brushes only, and trying not to annoy neighbours - so i always 'pulled' my cymbal hits. I think those 15 years have had a permenant and adverse affect on my style.
Anyway, I am really chuffed - this is one of the best compliments I have received on YouTube!
Hello, and thanks for this. I am curious that you are not sure which of two drummers it is, which only goes to deepen the mystery of just who the amazing drummer is!
2/3 of the way through? I thought it was exactly halfway?
I think there are two drum sets. One is the more traditional one that you play. The other is a go-go set, and will have roto-toms, bongos, and conga's. So, my comment was about the go-go solo.
nice, i recently discovered this song not too long ago(as i was a child when it came out) and i am digging it. great job. lol at 'orgasm' in description
good work. I only have one critiscm, and thats only the audio set up. can you fiddle with the mix/mic to remove the echo so that the background sound is more in the front ?
Hello. Unfortunately, no! All I am using is a camcorder and a semi-portable cd player. This is actually one of my better mixes! If you listen to some of my early posts on here, you can barely hear the music at all.
Thank you! You are all being very kind! I guess for my ears, even after 21 years trying to play this, I still am not 'in the pocket' - it does not groove with the same crisp raw power that the original shows. My bass doubles are not quite in a triplet feel, which always gets me down!!!
I say it again - the original drumming is incredible, and I ain't doing it!!!
this is the first time im heard this song. this is such and amazing groove. this ong is structured so perfectly yet it all just gooves and flows together. i love the high hat work. i cant get over how amazing this groove is. i want to go try it but i doubt i will do it justice.
Wow this is the first time i'm hearing this song. The beat is very inticate and you execute it well. Good old(at least 2 me) R&B, and a good drumming.
Very tasty man. Fabulous phrasing.

yes, I have a very 'tense' style, and this is commented on a lot! Can't be helped - I am too old to change bad habits I suspect!

Yeah, good one.

Thank you!
Yes, agreed - I use a lot of arm and little wrist. Lots of people have said this on my vids, and I am well aware of it! 35 years of being self taught has certainly not helped my 'style'.

hello from France,
i personnaly enjoy you playing
i agree with such a difficult songs, we don't ear a lot the song of the congas, witch made a Go Go rythm, it s amazing to see you playing.
I would like to play as you, in France it s so difficult to find some Drums School
did you learn yourself at home ?
krisbsa 3 years ago
Hello, France!
Glad you like this.
I did not go to a drum school - I have never had any lessons. I learned how to play drums at home, by ear. It has taken me 35 years though!!!

I see you try hard but you´re miles away... ;-)
But you have fun and that´s the great thing abuot it!
Keep on going!
petabyte99 3 years ago
Miles?? That seems a bit harsh! I know I said in my description that I have never mastered this one, but IMHO I think it is bit closer than 'miles'! How about a few inches?!
Anyway, yes, I am having a lot of fun, I love this track and I love putting my attempts on YouTube.

Hi Jouxplan,i just started to listen again to ''Slave...,'' and i can't agree more with you.
Just one thing, you keep in writing ''i can't do it'',but to me you ARE doing it.
So is it a bit of a perfectionist inside you,or is it my lack of hearing the ''drummers ear'' which all drummers must have?
dborhem 3 years ago
Also,to correct myself,i THINK that Steve Lipson was the drummer, but also that they used a DOUBLE drumsession, which is not uncommon on record as well as in live performances.
So on drumkit fills in where the other stops or makes another drumhit.
Maybe try something with anther person on a drumkit?
Keep up the good work, and you've gained one more fan!
dborhem 3 years ago
Ha! Ha! LOL!
Anyway, glad you like it! Cheers!
jouxplan 3 years ago
Hi Jouxplan,to answer your question about who is drumming on this record,THEY are Ju Ju,Little Beats,John Thirkel and Shorty Tim.
Sounds like stagenames but ju Ju is featured on several clips on YouTube but also has his own MySpace,so maybe put a message on there?
Just listened againhere and it still amazes me!
dborhem 3 years ago
William "Juju" House is the drummer. Reggie "Little Beats" Daughtry and Shorty Tim were the percussionists and John Thirkel is a trumpet player.
dillikins 3 years ago
dude you're AMAZIN'!. this song is smooth as hell, and i loved the beat to it. i couldnt imagine how it'd feel to play it. all tingly maybe. awesomeness! 'keep it up'
logoswearer 3 years ago
Thank you!
Hard to describe how it feels - when it is flowing right, and I feel close to the groove, then it is a beautiful place to be. A real sense of power and grooviciousness! Quite often though, I just can't play this right at all!
:-)

Nice job, very very good!! This is such a great beat. This song is just amazing and Grace is such a great artist. You sound great and I thought it was really cool watching you play this.

Hey, thank you! Yes, it is a wonderful beat to try and copy, Grace is just awesome.
jouxplan 3 years ago
wooow good job!! Think all the "slave to the rhythm" track is a Synclavier "festival", drums included..... ;-)
frakazzo 3 years ago
Great job...and indeed what a great and wonderful beat sequence - Hell - album. All around don't think anyone has attempted such a feat since this album was released. It was/is pure art and music. I too remember this back in the mid 80s high school - hot damn. Congrats and keep the beat alive in your heart your sticks your shiny self...be well...groove the Universe!
StudioGreenPenguin 3 years ago
Nice job, Jouxplan! Having done my time in D.C. playing in Go Go groups like the one which JuJu House (the drummer on this track) played in, my only advice/comment is that you are a little on top on the beat. Lay back ever so slightly. Nice work. This is one of the baddest record ever recorded!
raggityman 3 years ago
Hey, thank you very much!
Yep, that is no surprise to me (that I am a little on top of the beat). Frankly it is all I can do to stay where I am on the beat, without trying to lay back any! But I do agree with you!
'One of the baddest records ever recorded' - I aint gonna argue with that!
jouxplan 3 years ago
Alex, your drumming is utterly amazing. Yes, that drum groove is indeed powerful. What an amazing feat of drumming.
I've always known that drumming (one of the oldest forms of music) is the heartbeat of music. You've proven that. Grace would be proud of you.
I rated this video 5 stars, favorited it and added your video to my playlist. I'll tell my friends about this drum groove. Keep up the good work. Take care.

You are not a "half decent drummer". You are one of the finest drummers of this world. A kind of drummer who I asked to God for several years to my former band. God never heard me.
emoraz 3 years ago
That's extraordinarily kind of you. I have to very politely disagree with you though! I ain't anything like that good!
Nonetheless - Thank you :-)

This may sound wierd but the high hat pattern is enough to inspire me to play drums for hours lol. Keep it up bud.
smpboy 3 years ago
There is a video online where Trevor Horn describes how the rhythm track was created. YouTube seems to be preventing me from posting the link, so I'll drop you a PM :)
FailedMuso 3 years ago
Hello again! Have now seen the video you kindly told me about and that solves that really! Fantastic stuff! I noted with quiet glee that Trevor Horn himself said that the drum part that they created is actually very difficult for a drummer to play....I for one could not agree with him more!
Many, many thanks for your help on this.
jouxplan 3 years ago

I'm searching for this video you mentioned but can't find it. could give me a PM too or give me some keywords to find it? Thanks in advance!

FailedMuso 3 years ago
Hello - sorry been on holiday / vacation. Can I assume that 'FailedMuso' has indeed supplied you with the info you asked for?
jouxplan 3 years ago
The answer to your question about who played this drum part will probably not be the answer you're looking for. Many have said it was Ju Ju, and they are, in part, correct. Trevor Horn was recording Experience Unlimited and his cohort, Steve Lipson, took a 2 bar loop and played it back across a couple of Sony digital recorders, and that was the drum part you hear in the final song with some overdubs and fills played in live.
FailedMuso 3 years ago
Actually, your answer in some ways makes me feel a lot happier! I have always been stunned at the precision and power of this drum groove, and it has made me wonder about which particular human on this planet of ours was actually capable of playing it like this. So a drum loop thing kind of solves all that!
Many thanks!

Cheers! :-)

That album featured the undocumented David Guilmour's participation.

Without a doubt it's the 3 member perc trio
from Wash DC's own go-go band Experience Unlimited.I was born and raised in DC and go-go is a home bred style of music it was truly a big achievement the tear this single dropped because of their playing on the record if you go back and sample some of EU's breaks
Ju-Ju Shorty Tim & Foxxy Brown are the real players on this one....Oh and in case you're
wondering who the bass player is on Maxwells
A lil somethin somethin..Rare Essence's Funky Nedd(DC)
Beatsbyg 3 years ago
That's some pretty amazing drumming! The credits on the album (you did know there's a whole album of mixes of this, right?) say the percussion is by Frank Ricotti, Luis Jardim, Ju Ju, Little Beats and Shorty Tim. From what I've read, the track was built around a GoGo rhythm, with a lot of Synclavier work over the top. I saw Grace perform it live with Alan White on drums & Luis Jardim on percussion, and The Producers (Horn and Lipson's band) played it with Ash Soan on drums & Jardim's percussion.
lxnen 3 years ago
Thank you very much!
Yeah, I do know about the various mixes - this particular version has always been my fav. You yourself have just listed various people from the credits, and of course this still does not tell us who the individual perpetrator of this awesome drumming is! What was it like with Alan White? Same detailed, powerful groove?
jouxplan 3 years ago
are you using the heal-toe technique thre? i cant see your knee raise so i guess your just fast with the toe? lol nice work
sirchristopher2000 3 years ago
Hello. I lift my heel and raise the knee - it must be the video angle or something. Admittedly, I do not raise the knee much!
I see from your channel you are a civil engineering student - good luck! I am a Chartered Civil Engineer in my other life, and still recall how hard they work you as a student!
Anyway, thank you!

My drum teacher told me that the drummer is Steve Ferrone!!
Though i never found any sure information about the musician that played in the studio version!
Anyway many compliments for your drumming!
Fabionkeman 3 years ago
Steve Ferrone! That's the first time I heard that! Your comment just shows how difficult it is to find hard facts on this! At least i am not alone ion wondering who this genius is!
Anyway, many thanks for that, and thanks also for the compliment!
jouxplan 3 years ago
My cousin was a session player and did a lot of recording with the top people....yet nobody even knows this. Session people sometimes remain non famous---even though their skills make up the songs we hear.
marisabellas 3 years ago
What time signature are those fills in?
marisabellas 3 years ago
Has that helped? Have I misunderstood you?
jouxplan 3 years ago
Yeah those two fills that make it sound shorter. I just was wondering what the effect was....you have answered perfectly...I listened to the original and you did it perfect...don't worry you got down!
You should meet up with grace jones and try to see if she'll preform again!
marisabellas 3 years ago
You know what? I am wrong! I am an idiot! The bar IS shorter.
The first one of these fills is at about 2'09. Until then, the snare is on 2 and 4, with bass drum on 1 and 3, as you would expect. Then comes that little double snare hit, and hey ho, now the backbeat (snare) is on 1 and 3 and bass on 2 and 4...
Except that 'cos the rest of the band have moved the bar too, it still sounds like a 2 and 4!!!
Brilliant.
Apologies for misleading you!
I am not good enough for Grace, but thanks!
jouxplan 3 years ago
Yeah, that's pretty crazy that they thought of that...thanks for explaining it. Hey good job on the Genesis style drumming too! :)
marisabellas 3 years ago
great attention to detail in this groove playing. I'm a pro studio player for 25 years and I applaud you on this video.
Nicely done! Maybe go to the crashes a little more naturally but other than that excellent
slothead5050 4 years ago
Bloody hell, that is high praise indeed, coming from a pro studio player! I don't know what to say! Thank you very much!
I definately have a bad habit with how I hit crashes, you are quite right. I think it stems from 15 years playing with brushes only, and trying not to annoy neighbours - so i always 'pulled' my cymbal hits. I think those 15 years have had a permenant and adverse affect on my style.
Anyway, I am really chuffed - this is one of the best compliments I have received on YouTube!
jouxplan 4 years ago
The go-go solo was played by Reginald "Little Beats" Daughtry or Timothy "Shorty Tim" Glover. It comes about 2/3rd of the way through the song.
smitty225 4 years ago
Hello, and thanks for this. I am curious that you are not sure which of two drummers it is, which only goes to deepen the mystery of just who the amazing drummer is!
2/3 of the way through? I thought it was exactly halfway?
jouxplan 4 years ago
I think there are two drum sets. One is the more traditional one that you play. The other is a go-go set, and will have roto-toms, bongos, and conga's. So, my comment was about the go-go solo.

good work. I only have one critiscm, and thats only the audio set up. can you fiddle with the mix/mic to remove the echo so that the background sound is more in the front ?
M1975am09sley09 4 years ago
Hello. Unfortunately, no! All I am using is a camcorder and a semi-portable cd player. This is actually one of my better mixes! If you listen to some of my early posts on here, you can barely hear the music at all.
I do agree though that the mix could be better!
jouxplan 4 years ago
I don't think you could get it any closer. The footwork is spot on.
sifrow 4 years ago 2
