I'm 17, and want pigeons to try and start a good hobby. I love my reptiles, but I crave affection from animals. I love my dog and my rat, my parrot doesnt like me all that much, and my silly skink is a skink(random statement), haha so what about pigeons, I'd love advice. I live in mountains around birds, I feed the wild turkeys, racoon and other animals, and have always wanted a crow, but I keep coming back to pigeons. :)

my dad found one of these one day it got hurt in a storm it stayed at the house for a week and then when we let it go it circled around the house and headed to pa it had bands on its legs like these a man in my town lets his go everyday his arent far from his house and they make it home before he does

i used to raise pigeons when i was in middle school and threw some part of high school. I started off raising wild ones that had fallen out the nest under bridges and off city high rises, then i got my first pair of homers & indian fan tails, then i got hooked i loved my birds :). Them in 1989 we had to move so i couldn't take them with me so i gave most to a friend who raced them, the fancy ones sold or the wilds set free.. i am almost 40 now and my daughter wants a few, i want more :)

we've got one with a very minor wing injury (I think, feathers ruffled in a line, but wing works and lays fine) taking a break on our kitchen window ledge. Have given it some seeds. Anything we should/not do before it hopefully heads off? Its got numbers on its leg, but cant get close enough to read them.

@Fazizley pigeons breed healthier young in cold weather than in warm weather. Just make sure they have access to liquid water and plenty of food and good quality hay to build their nest with, and shelter from rain, wind and snow.

Gorgeous birds!I have Major Dove Love!Pigeons too.Had some live 12 years.Now hav 5 type:Blue Diamond,Tan Ringneck,White Ringneck,Black Tumblers,Black Racer.Next week a white Indian Fantail,Button,Coturnix,& Bobwhite Quail.Inside n large cages(use all of dining room)A newspaper layer out each morning.Had India Blue Peacock.
