This one was really cool to watch since we were able to see the drawing being made live. Which helped a lot! Also the commentary that goes with it really puts you in a good mood as a storyteller/designer
the strategy of starting with a background with a developed/real composition is a damn good strategy to speed up your work. i always thought it was 'cheating' or 'tracing' but its a legitimate strategy in the industry. thanks for bringing attention to it!
How do you determine how many layers to use? The line work wasn't all on one layer right? I have no experience with digital art but i need to know and i am a bit confused.
i dont really get what he means with dodge brush. does he just paint with a normal soft brush and then use the dodge-tool, or is there really a brush like that?
can somebody explain me that please :)
and what i also dont get is what he does if he is checking the value and something does not fit in. With which color is he correcting? Just a normal gray one?
@MrRottation have you played red dead redemption, or gta 4 , hell anything from rockstar. The design or art team is very heavily involved in influencing the outcome so we generally get some pretty scenery.
@MrRottation It actually rare the final product live up to the vision of the original concept, simply when you concept, you have all the freedom, but when it gets feed during the production, you have technical issue, time constraint, etc.
Love your tutorials, best I have seen so far, and I have seen a lot!!! Keep up the good work, I will wait impatiently for each new video:)) Thank you for sharing!!:)))
They are all important. However, most of the time, a great rendering or drawing presented well will trump over a great design that's badly drawn and presented. The goal is to come up with a good design, and have the fundamental skills to draw it well. Proper perspective will sometimes yeld a good composition....the drawing almost draws itself if that makes sense....
Great tutorial! I got a question: how important do you see the quality of perspective vs. composition vs. item design creativity? what is most import to you? How do you detect errors in a composition or perspective during working?
your paint work loooks AMAZING in black and white. you are sooo good at picking values. i can pick a value in black and white but not relate it to colour.
hey everyone, feng here. Thanks for the great comments and i'm already feeling better. My lovely video-editor girl is on vacation next week, so i'm still trying to figure out how to make a design cinema w/out her around. Probably might need to wait until she comes back.
btw, i'm thinking about doing some different subject matters....such as how to prepare a portfolio, getting a job...etc....
GREAT GREAT GREAT :D -- Tnx for the video, again! Really liked this way of presentation, but I think U shouldn't only do fast-forward movies. Altough they really show your skill, the video's where U explain in layers are more explainetory in ways of how light hits objects from sort of angles and why colors change in different ways to different lights and stuff..
Another great tutorial! I really like both types of tutorials, but I think I like watching it done live. It allows me to break down and study the technique alot more >:P
That's really interesting tutorial it helps me lot with the set design and put it in your imagination with that. I like to see Vehicle design learn how to do on photoshop
Loved the video! and I would love to see the painted timelapse. I really like this format better than the PSD format, simply because you get to see everything from inception to final. You are a master artist sir :)
great vid feng! i would have to say its better to see the sketch/design stage in real time sped up. it would b really interesting to see how u take this already well set up scene and render it further
These videos are so informative, thank you so much for taking your time to upload these videos to youtube :D

It's kinda funny that usually concept art looks (at least in my opinion) mush better than the final product like game or something.

@whosthisguythinkheis Well that's the reason why they are one of the best game studios of all time. Oh and btw I have both games with all DLC's.

@MrRottation And that's true in every phase. Like when you ink the pencil, the pencil looks more attractive because it's not one shade like the ink.

@franklin20uk Yes, I know but what I mean is that I have so far liked the original concepts more than final products (mostly).
