  • Norm Lewis is, in my opinion the most intense and most convincing Javert. Loved him in the 25th Ann Concert.

  • this was pretty good my school has just started practicing this scene!

  • i am a bit in love with norm lewis

  • I saw Norm at the 25th Anniversary Concert and he rocked!

  • the only person i liked was the bishop

  • Ahhhhh Norm Lewis was fantastic when I saw him in Les Mis on broadway. And I loved Celia Keenan-Bolger and Brian D'dario.

  • I think that alot of people dont like the new orchestrations because they were used to the old ones for 20+ years. I think the new ones are good, especially keeping in mind that they had to deal with a much smaller orchestra pit on the revival than they did in all the other venues.

  • @Jakegouldon Same, I love the new orchestrations!

  • where was the 'fliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhhttttttttt'!

  • @Monkeyballmania not everyone can sing like colm wilkinson

  • @Jakegouldon i know that, but David Shannon did it when I saw it in London for the first time, AND Gary Morris does it. In fact, lot's of people do.

  • Norm Lewis: "I'm acting now!!!"

Alexander Gemignani: "Oh yeah? I'm gonna act better than you!"

PLEASE someone tell me there is a recording of JOJ doing Valjean on Broadway. That was SUCHA good cast. It went from crap with Alexander to less crap with Drew to amazing with JOJ. If you have it DON'T HOLD OUT ON US!!!!

  • I wish there was, I loved that cast, I would have prefered if Lea Salonga had stayed around untill it closed, but Judy Kuhn was a good replacement.

  • Oh she was incredible. She was may favorite Fantine other than Ruthie Henshall. JOJ. And Megan McGinnis is my favorite Eponine. She was just perfection.

  • Norm lewis is amazing, he really is, javert just doesnt suit him though! he was great in sideshow and the little mermaid, hes an awesome singer generally! just not javert

  • that makes sense ok, thx

  • haha drew sarich as the innkeeper

  • at the end of the work song, i thought it was "always be a slave", and then "standing in your grave" they sang it opposite. idk maby im wrong

  • They did sing "slave/grave" first, but "grave/slave second". I think it's to emphasize what's going to happen to Valjean after he's released from prison. Even after he's freed, he's still seen as a criminal.

  • i like javert but not valjean

  • I agree, but overal they boath arent the best

  • This production blew goats!

  • Wow. The touring company was much better than this back in 2005. The music is really awkward. The singing isn't very good either, not to say they aren't talented, after all they are on Broadway, but they are taking the wrong interpretation of the music. Flight was terribly awkward. I just didn't get any feeling or emotion from most of the actors in this video, except for the Bishop.

Overall I'd like to see something come about with the original orchrestrations come back. Why mess with success?

  • They mess with success because Cameron Mackintosh is stupid. Which is why the revival had those icky orchestrations. It would have been so much better with the originals and the 1997 revisions.

  • Def. EXCEPT for one lyric in Who Am I which was changed from "If I speak I am condemned, If I stay silent I am damned" (the second time He says it) to "If I speak THEY are condemned, If I stay silent I am damned" which makes Valjean seem selfish rather than heroic when he turns himself in.

  • The Major problem with this show is that it is too clean it doesnt give you that hardcore feel like the other casts give you..and alot of their voices are way too popish for this time period..Norm Lewis is the only real reason why i would see this show..but other than that its no suprise why the show closed so early...Broadway should have just left it alone with the original cast.cuz now this how people will remember the show..atleast the ones that are not that into theatre.

  • Actually... I had the privilege to see it. And I saw it about three months after it had originally been predicted to close.

  • Actually it was soposed to be a limited run anyway. But it kept getting extended for a bout 3x's.

  • These two were SO MUCH BETTER when I saw them live back in April 07. Norm Lewis definitely stole the show that night with his Soliloquy. I do love Alex G's Valjean too though. The note he has at 3:10 on the video is really pretty. o3o

  • Was that Drew Sarich as the inkeeper? at 6: something?

  • I'm nearly positive it is.

  • i think it is...he was judas in jesus christ superstar right? that was incredibleee

  • Yeah, he's kind of amazing.

  • pretty much yeahhh

  • ...umm all i can say is that i love norm but not as javert. he's not threatening. AT ALL. and alexander gemignani is just awful. the man is an ok singer and a horrible actor.

  • I loved this show I saw it a month before u.... Thankz 4 posting!

  • I like how they all hit the ground at the same time, the first time, but then hit it at scattered times.

  • The Queen's Theatre versions are waaaaay better. Valjean's costume is pretty good, though.

  • is this the broadway?

  • Yes this was the broadway revival.

  • I don't really like the new orchestreations.

  • AGREED! 10000000x

  • They just aren't powerful enough.

  • word

  • I WAS AT THIS PERFORMANCE!

  • I was almost at this performance...

    (I was at the matinee)

While this performance was going on, I was at A Chorus Line.

  • Oh dear... I don't really like Alex's "Flight!" Maybe I've just been spoiled listening to Drew and Colm...

  • Ooooo I saw this on broadway but I had Robert Hunt. But he seems awsome as well. Rob, did a wonderful Job as Javert. I like these guys. Mercie.

  • wat happened to "FLIGHT"????????

  • is this the one where drew is chorus or enjolras?

  • He's both. You can spot him pretty easily...he's the innkeeper, one of the factory workers, an inn patron... Even after he dies as Enjolras in Act 2, he pops back up in the wedding scene wearing a white wig and glasses. :p

All of the main cast, except the actors playing Valjean, Javert, and Fantine, double as members of the chorus. Some more frequently than others.

  • oh! cool! didnt know that!

  • with the revival evan fantine plays some of the ensemble

  • You know, I knew that was the case for the original productions in Ny/West End, but with the non professional productions I've seen they always had Fantine not participate in any of the choruses. And my friend was in Sacramento's production a while back said the same, so I assumed that they had changed it permanently, because the last time I saw the revival I remember looking out for Fantine as one of the barricade boys and I was positive I didn't see her. Do you know which parts in act 1?

  • Actually, Fantine has been doubling up in the ensemble for as long as I can remember. Patti LuPone herself has stated her least favourite part about doing the original London production was that she had to play "a boy who dies" in the second act. I recently saw Tonya Dixon on tour as Fantine, and needless to say, and without any prejudice, she was the single member of the cast of any other race outside "white", and she stood out as a member of the revolution in Act Two.

  • I know that Fantine is a barricade boy but when I saw the revival, I kept trying to spot Lea Salonga as one of the barricade boys and I'm almost positive that I didn't see her once. I pretty much catalogued all the barricade boys and everyone who doubled but she was not in there. ?

  • Lea Salonga was the boy in the green jacket... Her official ensemble name is "bullet boy"

  • The real question is, which prison guard is Drew? I know he's one of them but I've never been able to make him out on this recording. :p

And by the way, I've got the full recording on dvd so if anyone is interested in a trade, send me a pm.

  • He's the first one to sing.

  • The prison guards don't sing.

    Well, besides Javert.

  • The prison guards don't sing.

    Well, besides Javert.

  • Well, it's kinda singing. He's the first one to speak, then.

  • The first (and only) prison guard to speak/sing is Javert. The other 3 prison guards do not have any lines.

  • I SAW THIS MATINEE <3333333333

  • ummmm.... ok, Alex Geminani fits the role perfectly as far as LOOKS go. Norm Lewis is INCREDIMAZING, but NOT as Javert. The convicts are actually great.

  • Is that Drew Sarich who plays the innkeeper in this video?

    and thanks for uploading

  • yes it is.

  • Often overlooked is how great the actor who played the Bishop is.

  • James Chip Leonard, I think is his name. He understudies for Thernardier, but I actually think he does it better than Gary Beach.

  • Man I miss seeing this.

I was so lucky to see this.

  • can u post the final scene

  • your videos are really wonderful!

Can you post "At The End Of The Day"

  • ok i hate the new overture music relly really lame they should not have edited it at all.

can i beg of you to add antoehr scene like Javerts suicide
