ohh man that looks really nice,I'm making mine right now,... the plans are really cool to thanks for sharing them, but will be really helpfull a video tutorial though :P---
Hey great job on the locket, I was just wondering what thickness of wood you used for the middle piece and the lids. Also is Jarrah wood hard to find? I've been having a little trouble finding any. Am I just looking in the wrong places?
@bodya11111 From a local hardware store or online. I used 1/8" (3.175mm) diameter rivets because my locket was slightly larger than the one in the movie. You just need the smallest you can get to use with your locket. Any Roto Hinge will do. Even a piece of small metal piping from some 'click' pencils would be OK.
I forget the guys name, but the guy who designed the one for the movie actually made 2 after the movie. Fully functional, much like what you've done. Sold one for about 400K and gave the other to his wife.
i think i could make one with some clay and a few magnets but that wouldnt be nearly as cool. but once i can make a clay one i bet i couldt get a wooden one with some work
I have been searching all over the web trying to find some instructions on how to build one of my own...but I can't find any clear instructions. Since you made a perfect personalized version of it, I can tell that you made it yourself, and so I was wondering if you could explain to me the inner workings of the locket...also, how long did it take for you to make it? It was time well spent.
I would be forever grateful if you could assist me in making one of these. I know you get this a lot but could you send me instructions on how to make it?
that locket looks amazing. i give you props on making a functional one. i was wondering if you could send me plans/directions/photos on how to make it. i want to make one for the woman for our anny. thanks a lot
hi...well done....i do appreciate to know how you make it...please...it would be for my girlfriend bithaday...cuold you give me the correct material and instruction you follow...thank you please contact me:
I found out how to make these by a very nice forumist<3 He was sooo awesome and I thank him so much for emnding my search. It doesn't make the clicking noise but I like it better because some noises annoy me....
Hello and thanks for your comments! I am trying to complete a working version out of softer wood (pine) but so far it hasn't stood up to the 'child' test. It doesn't seem to be strong enough. I am in the process of shifting the pivot point for the lid to reduce breakage. I will keep you all informed when they are ready to sell.
That might work, one small point to consider: when you open the locket into the 'heart' shape, the compartment will be complete, however, when you close the locket into the 'capsule' shape you will effectively be cutting the compartment and whatever is inside the compartment in half!
This theory will work with a 2 photo halves mounted each side of the locket, that join at the pivot section. (What the movie locket would do if it were 100% functional)
I think the trick in the illusionist locket, to keep the picture from breaking is that the picture is small enough that it can roll around freely in the space. So when you turn the locket from the capsule to the heart shape the small picture is off to the side, then the illusion of the locket wouldn't be that it is tricky to open, but rather that the picture stays in the middle.
Hi there, I will try and have some available soon.... I'm currently working on some pine models (softer wood). I'll post a video once they are complete.
wouldn't a photograph have to fit only on one side of the locket, since it would be torn in half once you closed the thing? that would make for a bad memory, in my opinion...is there anyway to fix this?
I am working on a design plan (flat out with work), but basically you are looking at 6 pieces of wood, 6 magnets, a pop-rivet and 2 half nails. Pretty simple hey? Or is it?...
By using a separate section for the 'lid'. When the lid is aligned in the heart shape it can swivel on the split pin allowing the inside of the locket to be exposed. This means you can engrave sections like I have to place objects in (photos etc.) or try engraving a shallow section away for a photo like the one in the movie.
disculpa me podrias mandar los planos para poder hacer uno, para regalarlo a mi novia o sabes de algún lugar en internet donde lo pueda comprar.... ME ENCANTO!!!!!!
how you made small magnets?

i still can't figure out how to use a photograph that would fit the entire locket, though....

maybe if you had some kind of ridge that helped it snap into place when you opened or closed it...used with the magnets, of course...
