poor japans.. mongols ruled owned japan sumo last decade..since they entered sumo, u ppl really pity .. that ur traditional sport and always lose to foreigners... that wat u wanted kick out asashiryo out of sumo and u did.. dont say anything else ... he was bla bla.. everyone knows that asa is just super ! no one can win him, now after asa another mongolian yokuzuna rulin HAKUHO ... no one win him too :) pity japans :(((
@tsmondo84 comments like this are so misguided... I'm sure Hakuho and even Asashoryu are very thankful to the Japanese for giving them a chance to participate in Sumo. They made good money doing sumo and lived good lives in Japan. Sumo is a great sport, and yes it is being dominated by foreigners right now, but don't count the Japanese out - they'll have a champion again in the next 5 years. Pride in being Mongolian is one thing, arrogance is another.
How come this one Shitatenage? They seem to call 2 to3 different techniques into one. Baruto and japanese need to learn mongolian wrestling otherwise they will never beat them on a regular basis!
But to learn Mongolian wrestling they need to get Ghenghis khaans army standard tests which they will die immediately so it is impossible for them. ;D
Say, why is it that Asashôryû always repeats the same routine upon grabbing the last hand of salt? He strikes a pose like in Kabuki, hits his Mawashi violently, and then dries his face. I have not seen anybody else be so ritualistic about that, or have I missed something?
Efficient use of kinetic energy by the Yokozuna btw. Really impressive.
@martpast1 well, some speculate that the reason the Japanese Sumo Assoc was so hard on Asa was that he was capable of breaking some long standing records by major Japanese sumo legends, but I'm not so sure, since Hakuho is currently doing just that and the fans here in Japan are mostly happy about it and excited to see it happen.
@JasonsinJapan i watched sumo very often in 1994-98 and i know rikishi of that time better. please , tell me: Did Wakanogana had a crisis after bout with Kokoshuzan? Because I SAW this one and it looked like Wakanogana hurt himself--they hold each other very stiffly and something happen, I cant remember what.
Definitely my favorite match of the tournament. There's been alot of good matches this tournament. I still think most people don't really understand how strong these guys really are. Good grief!

Asa is my favorite. He's got great technique with speed and strength to match. He seems really confident so far in this Basho.

Well - of course there is Takamisakari - do you know about him?

Never heard of that guy, sorry. Has he ever appeared in one of your videos? Because those are the only Sumô videos I watch.

@JasonsinJapan i have feeling that Asasho may be was pushed from sumo because of this record. ??

This ritual was used by Asanowaka from the same beya. Asanowaka is retired now and acts as a shimpan. You can see him sowhere there.
