  • Did anyone heard something like: "Oh, I'm not a Sanda or MMA Fighter 'cause I don't wanna kill anybody"?

  • Watch the feet - so many have not even attempted to root before commencing. Often feet close together, rear foot raised, off balance from the start. I am sure he is good, but would be nice to see him doing pushing hands with higher levels students.

  • @jonpaulwade One often judges others based on what one was taught. However, before one makes a conclusion, one should always ask the fundamental question first: Is the way I was taught the only or the best way? When you said "off balance from the start", you were assuming that he doesn't know how to keep balance. Do you really believe that he could make such a simple (to correct) but fatal mistake after years of training? Have you ever questioned that the way you root may be suboptimal?

  • @jonpaulwade A subtle eye observes subtle movements. Look & see.

  • @astolthree So because one guy was a fraud its all bunk? Did you watch the video? You don't understand that it is the opponents tension which leads to his defeat, in every case the opponents motion is slowed, arrested and reversed. There is nothing magic here, just pure technique.

  • @jacksawild You use the word "defeat". It is time to take Tai chi out of the illusionary and into the "real". At what point was there actual defeat? All I saw was a man who kept coming back. If he was intent on actually hurting him, these little fabrications would do nothing to stop him. Let us put this foolish display away and begin to talk about REAL defeat where he cannot get back up and fight.

  • @wpgtaiji I was taught Tai Chi by a peacful man. The theory goes that after having to get up from the floor for the sixth time he will give up. It isn't all about killing people, you know.

  • @jacksawild Ignroance is bliss! Tai chi is based on the FIGHTING arts of China, so most definitely, it IS about killing! The problem with your "assumption" is this does not show real aggression! This BS will get you killed with a person intent on hurting you. btw, there is no fajing here either. But good luck with your delusions, and god help you if you ever try to use this for real.

  • @wpgtaiji I'm afraid you simply do not understand the Taoist philosophy which underpins this. It is about the duality of opposites. You cannot know if something is beautiful if you cannot compare it to something which is ugly. In this way Tai Chi is a deadly art and it is this deadly violence which shines a light on the path to peace. Just because I can kill someone, does not mean I should. In fact, it is completely undesirable.

  • @jacksawild Another hippie misunderstanding! Tai chi is NOT TAOIST! Yang luchan was Buddhist! Fu zhon wen, the last of the Great Yang lineage, was Catholic! And you dont have to worry about killing anyone! If this is what you are learning, there is nothing, and I do mean NOTHING of real value in it. Enjoy your delusions of grandor. If I were you, I wouldnt go telling people you can use this junk. Someone may take you up on it, and the hospital is a scarry place to be.

  • @wpgtaiji Well I have a George Cross. So maybe I am a coward. Or maybe you are an arsehole.

  • When i say, "the hand form", i'm referring to the movements in the park at the end of the video. It has a Yang Style 24 short form feeling to it, though this practitioner has reconnected the Ming Men :) .

I actually like what i see in the two person part of the video. The root has a profundity to it that is akin to several other internal martial arts i've witnessed. Nice push hands.

  • This reminds me of Cheng Man Ching, because the push hand skill has been developed with sensitivity and practice. However, the hand form gives up the root (as can be seen when the heel slides away from the body), plus practicing the press so close to the wrist gives your opponent an easy lock. It is safer and more effective to press from the energy center at the meaty part of the forearm. Bringing the toe to touch between steps was developed for people with infirm legs. What lineage is this?

  • @camparkerqi This is a demo of the Pre-Heaven Power Method, a systematic and revolutionary approach to acquiring internal power developed by Grandmaster Pan Yue. You can visit the ctmaa website for details of this method. I understand what you said but one will have to learn this method to know why the movements look like what they are in the video. Obviously, your concept of rooting is different from ours. In internal martial arts, "feeling is believing."

  • @taipingvlg "feeling is believing." Indeed!

  • it is called fa jing

  • This is real people, I have been pushed by my teacher, it is not some mystical power but rather total matery of building up power through the body and then issueing it so it acts straight on the persons centre in such away they are directed up and away. Nice vid, guys good production, thanks for sharing.

  • that's so mean....how wud he like it he was shoved into a wall like that?

    :-p

  • he WAS shoved around for years by his master before he gained those skills :p

  • @looker768 It's not a wall! It is a soft mattress.

  • That's amazing stuff! I'd be very happy when I could use Fajing at that level of proficiency. But right now, I'm still learning the long form.

  • any footage of fajing from push hands with both sides trying to relax? heaven man earth have some great stuff

  • Good point, the guys being thrown are hard as metal. They actually tighten up so that they can be pushed ... not too impressive in my opinion.

  • To Asensory: I don't blame you when you cannot see what is demonstrated in this video. Only those with deep understanding of internal martial arts have the insights to see the value of the exercises and appreciate the skills shown. They, not the novices, are the target audience of this video.

  • To subliminaldepthcharg: Inspired by your comment, we have just posted a video entitled "Response Hands: Exercise After Static Fajin (Fajing) Training in the Pre-Heaven Power Method."

  • Taiji is cultivation of force, of drawing and expelling and resilience. One who has found "it" can experience this inner power and ride "it" like the bird takes to the air. Even when I am not "playing" it is a state. I know it sounds cryptic, maybe even corny......until you merge with it. Watch a little everyday and feel your need to join.

  • This fajin continually practiced in class is not a quick, easy training experience.

There are no twisting movements below the waist. You should be able to see NO LEANING movements of the upper body.

As far as feeling the force - feeling is believing - and a surprise.

  • There's nothing "fake" about a cooperative 2 person training drill. Like the description says, we remain rigid in order to consistently measure the force generated by our partner so purposely "jumping back" would not be beneficial to your partner.

This video is a demonstration of some of the training exercises we do in class. It's not about showing off or making Sifu Lin look good.

  • the fajin is fake, but the gongfu is real,

the yang tai chi is actually chen tai chi

  • An insightful interpretation of the power of relaxation.

  • This is what Yang Taiji fajin supposed to look like!

  • thats so fake...

  • Did you read the description about this video?

  • yes i did, i kno its not fighting scenarios, im saying the person being "thrown" is faking his falling back

  • Danny, I am a member of the school and I assure the person being thrown is not faking. Instead, they are not yielding in order to demonstrate the fajin.

  • well in Sensing, one is always softer and one is unable to yield b/c he is hard thus exposing his own weak center

  • the ones who say this is fake do not understand physics nor yin vs yang very well to know what is real or not.

"Yin (emptiness/softness) will always defeat Yang (hardness/force)" this is b/c Yang can never sense Yin while Yin will always discover Yang. One cannot find what is not there. This is the cause of the "rule of tension"

  • the 'rule of tension' which all matter abides by, is a relative measure of rigidness of an object. for example, if u pick up a pencil, note how it is immobile- and by being so stiff, one is able to locate the center of gravity and 'uproot' it thus picking it up. But in a not so stiff object like water, air, or cotton, determining the CG is difficult and nearly impossible.

  • this rule is what allows us to measure and determine center of gravity. why is CG so important? well it is ur source of power and strength. If one can accurately locate the CG while maintaining his own, then he will be able to use less force to move the object. but if one is stiff and unable to find the CG, he will waste alot of energy and force w/ minimal results. thus in taiji, we seek to use MINIMAL FORCE for MAXIMUM RESULTS by lower our CG through rooting- and to root requires relaxation.

  • Thus by relaxing we gain not only stability and threshold of nearly limitless power, but are able to locate and penetrate an oponent's stiff center thus uprooting him as seen in vid. 'use 4 ounces to overcome a thousand pounds' that is the principle of taiji which is greatly expressed in fajin.

Any real martial artist, strategist, or physicyst should know that Control of Center Equates to Control of Object. the possibilities that arise from controlling the center are limitless

  • here check out ~1:17. note the angle and direction of the push and the guy's hip. there is unmistably a force that is causing him to fly up like that- not from his own legpower but from the master's.

  • Hey guys, remember me?

  • The applications look effortless. Being thrown by Sifu Wei-Chung Lin, the video captures his true relaxed nature and the power that can be generated by him.
