Reference librarians actually get paid to sit at a desk and answer all your questions and help you find credible sources for your research. They are experts at information retrieval.
Wikipedia is 99% of the time not the best source to cite when doing serious research. It can be a good starting point, however.
The way to reform is to take it to the streets and protest against these thugs on Capitol Hill. It's not going to the voting polls. Voting doesn't matter. I'm a history B.A., and I've used Wikipedia many times... it, like any encyclopedia, has its place. Lots of great scholars use it and add to it, and you can get information you might otherwise miss. No matter WHERE you get your information, you should always check the footnotes and see where it's coming from.
If they are in AP history, the students should know the difference between good information and bad. And if they can't, they haven't been taught very well.

Regarding Wikipedia and students not being able to go there - This is total bullshit, it's just the old egotistical clash against the new superseding internet, which is the largest and most elaborate education resource our species has to date.
The TYT crew should have been more frank about this: Good sources are everywhere, the majority of wiki articles source extremely accurate information, and presented in such ways to think for yourself (the schooling systems never want you to do that..)

@Trustisaliability So ironic, your username :P I don't think that Wiki will never be considered a credible source, I think it just needs some time for people to come to their senses. Today things are changing so fast, becoming so diverse, that by the time a student gets their diploma, the next day it is made more or less irrelevant, new information flows in to modify the previous, that is the never-ending goal of science isn't it? People need to learn how to use information, not limit it.

In the jet engine article, a professor from Washington State describes Heron of Alexandria as a precursor to modern jet engineers.
Two DIRECT contradictions from the SAME SOURCE that's supposed to be amazingly vetted. It's not a real source.
Unfortunately, turns out, this article on jet engines is 10 years old and the professor is DEAD, so the problem can't be fixed anyway.

So I look up Heron of Alexandria, read the article and find what I'm looking for:
his model that uses steam to turn a sphere.
In the Heron of Alexandria article, it explains that this steam was not a precursor to such things as the jet engine, due to the fact that the steam was produced slowly, by an open fire, and that the sphere did nothing but turn. You couldn't produce any actual work from the model.
