@Dennischek Man, don't be too PC. I appreciate your point that we should be objective, but to be honest, this version sounds really great. The word "best" can be an outlet of excitement. Just don't be so serious.
@Dennischek If you can provide a sensible definition of "objective" without having recourse to fantasies of the "natural" or the "obvious", I will agree to not consider you a wanker.
I find it interesting that many people say that this rendition is 'ice cold,' and I must confess I have suspicions that many of you are just parroting what you hear because many people claim Berezovsky is 'heartless.'
Please, LISTEN to him; just because he takes some parts faster does not mean he is merely playing technically. He has a lot more passion then most of the recording on youtube.
@Darklord12356 you know why they say that it's ice cold? It's because the sound is recorded from a camera instead of studio. Sound is compressed so much, all emotions are lost, no soft no loud, just ice cold. But people can't distinguish so they blame the pianist.
I'm afraid that I do agree with you that Berezovsky might not be the ultimate prokofiev interpreter, though between the coughing of the audience and the poor music/video-quality he shows great virtuosity, at such a level that he need not sweat at this masterpiece, but has "space" left to do some interpretation.
Best ever?? Not even close. This does not do justice to what is probably Prokofiev's greatest piano concerto. Pick up Dagmar Baloghová's recording for a great musical experience.
Gutierrez is very good probably THE best modern recording of it, I also recommend the very first recording (1953/54) of this piece by Bolet... it's still amazing even today.
Please post more info! This is stunning. Only a Guttieres/BSO recording only on radio is close. ... It's late at night ... i guess i'll research tomorow... but i'd pay steep to have this on a good DVD. And your --or whosever's-- camera work is just more than fine enough..... Thank You!
Yes it is ice-cold, like the bleak desolation of an Arctic Winter -as it should be.

Please do not put such a 'best ever' sign on the title. Whether or not it's true , firstly looks a little bit silly. Just be objective.

You object to a 'best ever' judgement and then endorse objectivity - that makes you look more than a little bit silly.

What ? I didn't object to anything . Can you read ? Even If I said so , I have no idea what you're talking about .

@Darklord12356 The truth is, 90% of the people who comment on youtube, wouldn't be able to tell one performer from another just by listening to them.

Ice cold. As always. But his technical perfection is always impressive.

serviceable. Best ever? definitely not. Ashkenazy's recording is better, for instance.

Ashkenazy however is a living metronome.

Yundi Li and Osawa recently released a CD version of this piece.
In my view, they took great risks, because those available on Youtube here are SO much stronger by comparison!
