Really, arn't you driving? No you're video taping, talking and not paying attention you put countless people at risk when you could have had someone else ride along and PAY ATTENTION! Ya only went outa the lanes several times..ugh ***** Think before you drive and video it's just not smart..
I'm not a big fan of toyo's. It seems to me that they assume everyone is a complete and utter moron, and design their cars to do things for you. I kinda like to do things myself.
If you're on a road with greater that 15 degree turns, I would advise turning cruise control off.. The Interstate seems like an awesome place to use that though. Good video.
This is not what cruise control if meant for-if you use cruise control on a daily basis on windy roads with speeds this low, you are a lazy idiot and driving dangerously. Cruise control is for long drives at highway speeds in straight lines.
cruise control and a gps system are the only two options ever worth shelling out for in my opinion. especially if your one to travel long distances often (aka college kids)
Great video!!! I just hope that in the future, big brother, our great american government doesn't make all of this nannies mandatory on every vehicle sold in the U.S. I love and enjoy driving and I feel that all of this electronics take away the joy of driving. I know a few crazy purists that always turn off traction control before pulling out of their driveways.
I think it's kind of a shame that we (some US citizens) are so lazy that there is a market for self driving cars. What the hell happened to manuals? I like driving the car, not the other way around.
2007 Ford Focus, manual everything. It's getting real hard to find cars that come in manual.
Not talking about the author of this video specifically, more generalized.
@cupooterluvr I agree. I would never want a vehicle that I couldn't fully control. Not to question the owner or the vehicle but I wouldn't trust this system if I were driving. I think it could also cause the driver to become to relax and fall asleep as well.
@sunnyjason I never would, I don't use cruse control at all. When I was on the hw I turned it on for a min or so{probably won't use it again} it was the first time I've ever used it, and it was just to see if it still works.
This car is awesome! Cruise control on any car shouldn't be used for these types of roads I would think more highway use, still functions great though!
only pussys drive their car on cruise control or worries about it.... this is why people fail and screw up in unattended acceleration... its because they rely on their cruise control and have no idea how to handle a car.. i will never use cruise control
this cruise control is not good. cruise control frombmw or audi is much better and relaxing. cruise control should be relaxing this is one is not. it wont start again after it has stoped because of the detection. so you have to set it all over again.
I have a lexus with the dynamic cruise control and I have to say it's an AMAZING feature. I won't ever buy a car without it. I drive in LA and the feature is pretty awesome, but it's not usable in traffic since it only works at 25mph+. Plus I just did the LA-SF drive, and boy did the radar cruise control help out. I actually think it makes me a better driver because it allows me to keep my eyes on the cars around me and pay attention to what's going on in my mirrors.
wow with the saftey hazards with that type of cruise control I wouldn't own one of those. Its cool, but to much of a hassle. I just like my plain old cruise control just fine on my 01 chevy cavalier. All I gotta pay attention to is the guy in front of me and just tap the break or turn it off with the flip of a switch when I need to. So simple.
This would be great for long distance driving. Having to vary the cruise control in traffic is a real pain. I really do not see many problems here, if you set current cruise controls and do not pay attention you will run into the back of someone. These are all just stepping stones to automated driving.
While I have to admit the technology here is very impressive, I can't agree that it's actually helping you at all.
Surely the idea of a system like this is that it helps you drive more safely. But what really seems to be happening is it is trying to help you but only some of the time. You have to be aware at all times when it's helping and when its not. So the bottom line here is that you're having to be just as focused on the driving as you would be without the system.
Very good video nice coverage of how DRCC and LKA works on this car also thanks for pointing out a few problems which hopefully Toyota can fix with the next model. I am looking forward to my first Toyota Prius purchase next year and I trust Toyota will have all the bugs fixed by then.
surely accelerometers could determine the cornering and ensure a safe speed while cornering rather than accelerating when the radar loses the car in front?
Anyway if you want a really good car, buy a German one. And this example is really about how a complicated system is confusing because it's still in his technological infancy.
have to agree, I don't think the "enhanced" cruise control should have been released - HOWEVER still better than a traditional cruise control..or is it? Which German Hybrid do your recommend? I do like the BMWs and Mercedes, although I've seen used 5 series that are complete LEMONS.
If you got guts you will buy a diesel. Try Audi. And a car is mend to have a driver. Not an idiot who is texting or twittering behind the wheel. Hybrid is kind'a stupid. Lots of toxic waste in the batteries. Got to change them after...? 2-5 years...
Well, the 325i is another class of car. the Beemer has a 3L 6 inline engine with 215 bhp, and Prius has (gas+ electric) 178 bhp.
If You really want to compare two cars you have to take them in Europe and make at least 2000 miles half not on motorways. And pay the gas in Europe. Than you will buy a diesel...
Audi does make some great cars, I own a TT and a prius, but Toyota wins on tech integration. My Audi has a failing instrument cluster, cruise control and other electrical problems, where the Toyota has been trouble free so far. Prius = 42mpg at 80MPH which means less fuel stops while traveling, which means time saved standing at the pump. The 2-5 year battery replacement thing is bogus too, Toyota offered 100K mile warranty on my battery. At 100k miles every car needs work of some type.
Breaks, clutch, timing belt, power windows, glove box, battery, fuel injectors, alternator are all things my Audi has needed so far to make 100k miles. The Toyota has needed nothing so far and the battery still works.
I think cruise is just
